Special Swimming Scheme The School Swimming Scheme will begin next week on Monday 26th November and concluding on Friday 7th December. Students will need to bring and apply sunscreen each day for extra sun protection. Students will have an early lunch and return before 3.25pm. Any students ordering lunch on the two Thursdays during Swimming Scheme, will need to indicate on their order that they are swimmers so that their lunch Is prepared on time. Notes and money must be paid by Friday 23rd November. Remember you can pay online via the school website. If you are unable to pay by this Friday please contact Mrs Chapman in the office. Thank you in advance for your assistance with this organisation.

Japanese Visitors We were very pleased to welcome some special visitors from Japan last week. The Murayma family spent time with K/1/2 and 5/6 watching our students during classroom and outdoor activities.

Genko and Koto were also able to join in with the children and play games at lunchtime. After their visit the family presented the school with some origami books and later emailed to say how enjoyable the experience had been for their children at our school.

Year 5 Elections

Eligible Year 5 students will present their speeches on Tuesday 4th December at 9:45am in the library. Students will be given speech writing guidelines and criteria this week.

Speeches need to be handed to Mrs Mackie or Mr Hynds to read before Friday 30th November. The successful students will be announced at Presentation Day on Thursday 13th December.

Bus Travel

Students who have already been approved for school bus travel and their address changes, or the student is progressing from Year 2 to Year 3, parents will need to update your child’s details at:

apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/updatedetails.

This will need to be done before the start of the new school year 2019.

Colo High School Orientation

The Year 6 students will be attending the Year 7 orientation at Colo High School on Tuesday 4th December. All parents are reminded that they will need to attend the day with their child to receive important information about subject materials and school uniforms.

Presentation Day Presentation Day will be held on Thursday 13th December 2018. A program and RSVP will be sent home next week. The day will begin with the formal presentation from 9:45am - 11:30am. After this time parents and grandparents will be invited to the library for morning tea with Year 6. Time permitting, the Year 6 slide show will be shown. If morning tea is delayed, the slide show will be displayed on the last day of school prior to Year 6 leaving through their guard of honour. As we have a tight schedule with afternoon activities, we must adhere to the allocated break times. From 12pm a variety of activities will be held for the students, including Go-karting and activities from Camelot Amusements. The students will rotate through activities. This year activities will be held up in the top playground. This is where lunch will also be served to the students. A special guest will arrive at approximately 2:30pm. After this there will be some water fun with the fire truck! We hope you are able to join us to celebrate the achievements of our students Bilpin style! Book Club Book Club orders need to be placed online through the Book Club Loop by Friday 30th November. Cash orders cannot be accepted.

Jump Rope for Heart Day Our Jump Rope for Heart Day was a huge success. Students raised $210. A great day was had by all. Thank you Ms Wheen for organising such an energetic day.

CLASS NEWS

CLASS K/1/2 - Mrs McCloy

We are finishing our multiplication and division unit this week and have been practicing our 4 times tables. K/1/2 have also been looking at calendars as part of our unit on time.

K/1/2 are also learning about the importance of sun safety. We have been sharing what we know about the sun and how it can be both good and bad for us. We have been singing the song ‘Slip, slop, slap, seek and slide’ to remind us of the things we need to do to protect our skin and eyes. In geography we have been investigating the design of a city. What needs to be in a city? We watched an amazing Lego city complete with roads and traffic lights and recorded what we thought was missing from the town—most noticeably a school! We thought about what would be different if children designed a city. Keep reading K/1/2! We will read to Week 9 and I will be collecting readers from Friday of that week.

CLASS 3/4 - Mrs Mackie

The students presented some very interesting speeches about numerous famous Australians last week. Russell Coight was a definite favourite! The next speech for the term will be given out tomorrow and due on Wednesday 28th November. Homework will conclude in Week 8.

The school has two more weeks of access to the STEM Kits before we have to send them back. The students have had a fantastic time exploring bee bots, dash and dot and the lego kits. Next year Ms Wheen has managed to book in the Virtual Reality Kit which will be very exciting!

Over the next few weeks the students will be learning songs for Presentation Day. The students will be also be learning the music to one of the songs on the glockenspiel, as well as learning some Indonesian songs on the angklung (Indonesian bamboo percussion instrument).

Don’t forget swimming begins on Monday of next week. Please remember to ensure your children have the correct gear for the day (as listed on the front page of the newsletter and the permission note). Enjoy your week.

CLASS 5/6 - Mr Hynds The next few weeks are very busy indeed with many activities coming up. We are looking forward to our ‘Week of Tastes’ excursion to Shields’ Orchard tomorrow and also our Basketball Gala Day on Friday. Our Swimming Scheme will commence next week. A reminder that we need those notes in by tomorrow. As we build up to our very exciting end of year activities there are still some important tasks to be completed. Year 6 will start working on their end of year memories booklet that will be presented at their graduation ceremony. Our Year 5 students have the opportunity to prepare and practise their speeches for leadership positions in 2019. We will be finishing a number of assessments in Literacy and Numeracy over the next two weeks and also completing some of our group tasks such as our 3D cities in Maths and our ants nests in Science in readiness for programming our robots to visit each nest.
