This document was produced by the BIM4NR (formerly BIM4IP) Change Programme to enable NR

Infrastructure Projects to effectively implement Building Information Modelling (BIM) according to

BS1192 suite of standards using Governance of Railway Investment Projects (GRIP) stages.

Since publication: the operating model used by Network Rail has transformed into a devolved

organisation of 5 regions supported by services and functions; the BS1192 suite of standards are being

superseded by the ISO19650 suite; and GRIP stages are being replaced by Project Acceleration in a

Controlled Environment (PACE) Phases.

For inflight projects using these materials following the GRIP Stages no change is needed and this

document can be used as is.

For new projects using PACE and/or ISO19650 this material can be used as reference in conjunction

with advice from the NR Regional BIM Lead (https://nrbimportal.co.uk/contact-us/).

Scope

4.1 Who this document is for?

4.1.1 Administrators

The application and use of the NR Titleblocks by users and administrators setting up

applications or systems that provide Titleblock exchange capability. Includes any attributes

in the system that relate to the attributes in the CAD Titleblocks. Including attribute field

lengths.

4.1.2 Project Information Managers

To provide information on what CAD resources are available and how to use them and how

they are governed with regards to change, what is allowed and what is not when it comes to

using the resources contained within.

4.2 Change Control

The CAD Resources shall be governed by change control at all times, no unauthorised

changes shall be allowed, and all changes shall be implemented and managed by the

Principle Engineer for BIM

4.3 CAD Formats

The document covers Bentley Dgn formats only.

Use of any other formats shall adapt and apply the requirements as specified in this

document.

Using the NR CAD Title Blocks, Tagsets and Borders

The NR Titleblocks are mandated.

All Title Blocks, Tagsets and Borders are under change control by the Principle Engineer

(BIM).

No changes, adjustments or modifications shall be made to the Title Blocks, Tagsets or

Borders.

Where changes, modifications or updates are required, a Change Request shall be

submitted and where the change is approved the Principle Engineer (BIM) shall implement

the request and re-issue the Title blocks, tagsets and boders as appropriate.

All changes to the Title Blocks shall be recorded in the Title Sheet of the model.

5.1 Obtaining the BIM4NR CAD Resources

5.1.1 Master Source

NOTE: The following are links are temporary links to the BIM4NR PoC CDE system

NR - Title Blocks and Tagsets.cel (cell librabry of all titleblocks, including tags)

Borders (various sizes of frames)

appropriate drawing frames included the borders folder)

5.3 Implementing and managing CAD Resources

NOTE: CAD resources shall only be implemented and managed by the Project Information

Manager (PIM) for the CDE.

In the System Workspace folder or Common Resources folder of ProjectWise, add the files

into the appropriate folders described in the table below.

When implementing the CAD resources the reference links will be broken and a “scan

referencees” action will need to be applied.

The filess shall be checked that the references were found and work as designed (See

below)

5.4 Creating a Drawing and adding a titleblock

The following diagram describes the process of creating a drawing and adding a titleblock

using the BIM4NR Cad resources. An guidance video can be found here

● Create a drawing using the BIM4NR_DrawingFileSeed.dgn seed file.

● In the drawing sheet, open up references and double click the

BIM4NR_BorderSeed.dgn reference from the reference manager

● In the reference setting dialogue change the model drop down to the appropriate

drawing size

● Click OK

● End

5.5 Titleblocks

The Title Block Cell library has been complied so that the titleblocks can be updated for all

sheet sizes and therefore making any changes, such as logo updates, more efficient. See

diagram below and following sections for detail on the parts of the title block.

Each cell is for the approved NR Drawing Sizes as specified in the NR CAD Procedure and

are applied to the appropriate Drawing sizes.

To achieve this the titleblocks have been split into the key parts as shown in the figures

below.

5.6 Migrating to the NR CAD Borders and Titleblocks

5.6.1 Attribute Exchange

Tagsets can be updated using the CDE attributes using Attribute Exchange rules.

Column 1 defines the Tag name to be used in the defined rules.

Contact RSIT Support for setting up rules for your CDE

NOTE: Rules can be setup to axchange attributes to multiple Tagsets, therefore the CDE

can move to the Approved Titleblocks and CAD Resource files without disrupting the use

exchange to previous NR titleblocks
