Wow, can you believe that Term 1 is over already? It was a short term but we were still able to have a fun-filled one. The children have been developing relationships and settling into their groups. You can read all about what they have been up to in our group reports. We would like to wish you all a safe and happy Easter and we look forward to an exciting Term 2 at Bimbadeen Pre-School.

CHILDHOOD ILLNESSES Many childhood illnesses, both mild and serious, begin with similar symptoms ,such us loss of appetite, sniffles, runny eyes etc. It is in the interest of all children, that care is taken not to send an unwell child to Pre-School. Many children will be disappointed if they are unable to come to Pre-School when they are ill, but parents need to make it quite clear to the child that there is no choice in the matter - it’s a parental decision not the child's. If your child is away from Pre-School for any reason, especially if they are sick, would you please let the director know, as it may be relevant to the day’s program

PRE-SCHOOL DUTY We would like to encourage all

parents/grandparents to volunteer for Pre-School Duty

during your child’s session. It is great for the staff to have an

extra set of hands, and it also allows you to see the wonderful experiences and activities your child is exposed to, during their

session.

President Report- March 2019

Hello everyone, At the start of Term 1, we had Lyndle Flewellen fill in during Jessica Casamentos’ leave of

absence. A big thank you to Lyndle for sharing her skills and expertise as an Educator for the Red group. We all loved having you around again, along with your positivity that you bring to

the pre-school. The construction of Bimbadeen Pre-School’s Inclusive Playground has begun! I am sure you have all seen the temporary fencing and trucks around the pre-school, along with the builders who are working hard to create a beautiful place for our young children to play and learn. The playground is expected to take a month to finish so our children should be able to enjoy some

sand, water, and mud play after the Easter Holidays. The playground will have a dry creek bed running from the (to be) rejuvenated sandpit, to some timber decking, with a water pump at one end and a timber bridge running across . There will be a double swing, a timber stump

play area, logs and boulders to explore, and many beautiful native flora and fruit trees (orange, fig, peach, apple, quince!) Thank you to Urban Discovery by Jenn Reed Design and

Ducon for working with us to make this new playground a reality. A new roof will soon be upon us. Our council has approved our request for a roof

replacement (due to a leakage) and we are lucky to have this taking place over the coming Easter Holidays.

Celebrate Mooroolbark (held on 23rd March) was a great success! Our stall was decorated with the beautiful buntings created by our children and the activities were very popular

amongst children of all ages. Sand was dug, frogs were found and coloured treasures were won, and tickets were torn. The atmosphere was buzzing and there were smiles all around. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to help out at the event- we couldn’t have done it without you all. A big thank you to our Fundraising team- Erena Cain, Hayley Wallace, and

Nicole Nilsson- who put in a lot of time and effort leading up to the event. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our 5c fundraiser- our jar is slowly filling up!

GreenGroup’sProgramReportTerm1hasbeenabusytimeforthechildren.Theyhavebeenlearninghowtoplaywithothersandworkasagroup,establishingfriendshipswithadultsandpeers,learningnewrulesandroutinesanddevelopingtheirknowledgeoftheworldaroundthem.

Itishardtobelievewearecomingtotheendofterm.Wehavefittedalotinto9weeks.Theholidayswillbeagoodtimeforthechildrentohavearestandrechargethebatteriesallreadyforterm2.

Thistermthechildrenhavebeenhavingfunwithwateraswellastalkingabouttheimportanceofwater,waterconservationandsafety.

Thechildrenenjoyedour‘WaterPlayFunDay’.Therewereavarietyofwaterexperiencesforthechildrentoplaywithandexplore.Thehighlightforthechildrenwassquirtingthestaffwithwaterusingwaterwands!

Thechildrenhavebeenpractisingsunsmartbehaviours.




Wehaveincludedthewidercommunity:

TamarafromKingSwimvisitedthechildrenonThursday,2ndMarchtodiscusswatersafety.

Thechildrenlearntsomeimportantwatersafetyrulesthroughlisteningtoanddiscussingthe“Kingsley’sWaterSafetyBookofRules”.

Therewerealsoroleplayingactivitiestoreinforcethesafetyrules.Thissessionwasfantastic!

Science

Insciencethechildrenhavebeenmixingprimarycolourstomakenewcolours.Theyhavebeeninvolvedinhands-onexperiencesusingpaint,playdoughanddyes.SomeofthestoriestheyhaveenjoyedarefromabookseriesthathasthetitlesPressHereandMixitUp!

ThechildrenhaveshownastronginterestinShowandTelloverthepastfewweeks.Wehavebeenencouragingthechildrentobringitemsfromnature,trophies,medals,photosanditemsfromholidayadventures.Showandtellwillofficiallystartnexttermandwillbeconnectedtothechildren’sfocusgroups.




The4’shadworkedwellasateampriortotheyardworks.Theymovedrocksandtyrestothetanbarkareanearthefrontofthecentre.TheworkmanfromDuconwereveryimpressedwithwhatthechildrenhadachieved!

Aftersomedelaysouryardwasfinallystarted3weeksago.Theyardhasnowstartedtotakeshapeandwillbefinishedbytheendofthisweek.Wearealllookingforwardtostartingterm2withanewyard!

ThisweekthechildrenwillbelookingatEastercelebrationsfromaroundtheworldandwillenjoyanegghuntonthelastdayofterm.

REDGROUP’SPROGRAMREPORTTheprogramforthe3’sthistermhasfocusedaroundsettlingthechildrenintokinderlife.Theaimhasbeentosupporteachofthemtoadjusttoseparatingfromtheirfamilyaswellaslearningtobuildrelationshipswithadultsandchildreninanewenvironment.

Thechildrenhaveenjoyedparticipatinginsongsandlisteningtostoriesusingpuppets.Thestoryandsong“FiveLittleDucks”hasbeenafavourite.

EliseandPipfromMiniMaestrosvisitedkinder.Thechildrenlearntaboutrhythm,beatandrests.Theyenthusiasticallyparticipatedinactionsongsusingtheirbodyandinstruments.




Wehavealotofkeenclimbers!Theprogramhasprovidedthechildrenwithmanyopportunitiestodevelopandchallengetheirgrossmotorskills.Climbingdevelopsmuscles,balanceandself-confidence.

ThisweekthechildrenwillbeparticipatinginactivitiesaboutEasterandonThursdaytheywillbehavinganEasterEggHunt.

Ourplaygroundisstartingtotakeshape…wearenow3weeksintotheworks!Whenwereturnfromholidayswewillhaveanewyard!

Thecouncilhavealsoorganisedroofworksovertheholidays.Whenwereturnwewillhaveacompletelynewroof,includingnewskylights,andfingerscrossedtherewillbenomoreleaks!

Wewouldliketothankallourfamiliesforthehelpandsupportyouhavegiventhroughouttheterm.

BlueGroupTerm1NewsBluegrouparesettlinginwell.Startingkindergartencansometimesbeoverwhelming,anditcantakealittlewhiletofeelfamiliarwiththemanynewfaces,thesometimesloudvolumeandthenewexpectationsandlevelofindependence.DonnaandIhaveobservedthemtomanageallthisverywellsofarandtheyarefastbecomingfamiliarwiththeroutine.Manyofthemareabletoverbaliseandreminduswhatwillbehappennext.Theyarequicktoletusknowifwedonothavethevisualsequenceofeventscardsinthecorrectorderontheboard!Wecanseetheirconfidencegrowastheirfamiliaritydoes.

Theyaredemonstratingincreasingresponsibilityintheirplayandindependenceastheyaccessmaterials.Atthebeginningoftheyearthereissomuchtolearn,anditishardforusasteachers,nottooverloadthemwitheverythingatonce.Thebasicsareallstartedandnexttermwewillintroduceoursocialskillspuppetprogram.

Wehaveintroducedtheconceptofprogressivesnackandsavingenoughfoodforlunch,applyingourownsunscreenandgenerallybeingresponsibleforourownbeingandbelongings.

Withourupcomingnewoutdooryard,Bluegroupworkedfabulouslyasateam,collectingandcartinglooseparts,suchasrocksandtyres,toputinasafepositionuntilouryardimprovementsarecompleted.Theyalsoassistedustofillupthesmallsandpits,asourlargesandpitisofflimitswhiletheconstructionworkisunderway.Whileworkingaroundtheconstructionprovidedsomechallenges;asalargepartoftheyardhasbeenclosedofftothechildren,wehavebeenabletowatchtheworkinprogressandaregettinganideaofthewonderfulyardwearegoingtohavetoexplore.Wehaveseenthedeckingandpathsconstructedandhaddiscussionsonthewaterpumpthatwillbeaddedtothedrycreekbed.

Wehavebeenexploringscienceconceptsaroundcolour.Bluegrouphavebeenfascinatedbyexploringdifferentwaystocolourmix.Atgrouptimewehaveconductedtwoscienceexperiences:ColouringFlowersandCrawlingColours.Wefocussedonthegoalofchildrenpractisingverbalisingtheirthoughtsandmakingpredictions.Weintroducedtheexperienceasan‘experiment’andthatduringexperiments,itisalwaysfuntoguesswhatmighthappenbeforewedotheactivity.Thatwaywecanseeifourpredictionwascorrect,orifsomethingdifferentoccurred,thatwedidn’texpect.Bluegroupwerecuriousandenthusiasticparticipantsandallwereeagertoprovidetheirpredictions,explainingwhathadhappenedandwhy.




Indoorsboxconstructionhasbeenverypopularinthepastingareaandwehaveseensomeverycreativeprojectstakingshape.Anotherpopularareaistheblockconstructionzone.Ithasbeenwonderfulseeinggroupsworkingtogethertobuildroadsandrampsforthecarsandtruckstogoon,largebuildingsandevenhomesforcatsanddogs.Someofthechildrenhavebeenenjoyingroleplayinginthehomecornerbothindoorsandoutdoors.

Thistermweintroducedourfirstboardgame–TheMouseRace.Ithasbeenwonderfulwatchingthechildrenjoininasmallgroup.Boardgamesareanexcellentwaytofurtherdevelopsocialskills.Reinforcingtheconceptoftakingturns,patience,winningandlosinggracefully(celebratingothersachievements).Thisgamealsohelpschildren’sMathematicalthinkingwithcolourmatchingandcounting.Bluegrouphavealsoenjoyedparticipatingincardgamessuchassnap,memoryandthelunchboxgame.Thesegameshavebeenverypopular.

DonnaandIwouldliketoextendourthanksforallourwonderfulparenthelpersduringthisterm.Yourinputandassistanceintooursessionsissovaluable,forboththechildrenandthestaff.Term2DutyRosterisupforfamiliestoputtheirnamedown.

FUNDRAISING A huge thank-you to everyone who helped out at the Celebrate Mooroolbark festival, either donating hamper items or prizes, helping on the stall, or visiting the stall over the day. We raised $151.60! Thank-you to those families who purchased a Small Ideas Membership. We raised $110 for our kinder.
