I designed my typeface to be used in an editorial magazine. I started to think about how my typeface would need to look sophisticated, bold, and easily readable for the audience. I began to look at the covers of Elle and Vogue for inspiration. What caught my eye right away was the thick stroke of the letter forms and the serifs. That was when I decided that I wanted to have a typeface that was uniform in stroke weight, but had serifs.

I began to look at type specimens and that was when I figured out that I wanted to combine two typefaces together to achieve this goal. I chose Din for the stroke weight and Bodoni for the serifs. When the two combined together Bin was cre-ated.

I started by sketching out the letters A, B, H, O, P, and X into my Moleskine. Once I had down those six forms I was able to take parts from differentletterforms to create a new form. I also sketched out numerals and punctuation. Once I had the general idea for my letters, numbers, and punctuation, I began to enlarge the forms.

Once I sketched out the letters in my Moleskine, I began to scale them up. I made each letter, number, and punctuation four times the size of the sketch. I drew each form out onto grid vellum. Once each letter was drawn out, I went over them with a black Sharpie marker.

After all of the letters were enlarged, I scanned them into the computer. Once the sketches were in the computer, I began in Adobe Illustrator. I pathed out all of the letters, numbers, and punctuation and then refined them until everything was uni-form.

I designed the numbers once I had finished designing the letters. I pulled certain characteristics and traits from the letters to create the numbers. I maintained the equal stroke throughout each numeral.

Finally, I designed the punctuation. I designed the punctuation by pulling characteristics from the letters and numbers.
