As always, we have been blessed with a dedicated expatriate staff who serve here as volunteers to disciple and educate our students and support the work of a large number of mission and humanitarian organisations in Ethiopia. This year our expatriate staff represented Australia, the UK, the USA, New Zealand, South Korea and Norway. We are also privileged to work alongside a staff of over 80 Ethiopian nationals, whose commitment and dedication to the school and to serving God is an encouragement and inspiration to us all. At the conclusion of the school year, we will bid farewell to the Pirie and Farrell families. It has been wonderful to work alongside Malcolm and Tommy as our Elementary and Secondary School Principals and they will be sorely missed. I am happy to report that Kathy Flippence will take up the role of Elementary Principal in August 2015. Kathy brings 4 years of experience at Bingham Academy to the role – most recently as Deputy Elementary Principal. THE BINGHAM ACADEMY CLASS OF 2015 (WITH THEIR HOMEROOM TEACHERS HEEYEON KIM & BEKAH POLLOCK) IN THIS ISSUE

As another school year draws to a close, I am happy to report that we have had a fantastic year at Bingham Academy.

Joining Kathy on the Leadership team as our Secondary Principal will be Christy Johnson, whom many of you will know for her many years of service here as

Athletic Director. We are so blessed to be able to make a smooth transition on the Leadership team and look forward to a great year ahead.

We also bid farewell in June to the graduating class of 2015 (pictured above). WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

The Bingham Academy class of 2005 was the school’s first ever Grade 12 graduating class. As a group, they were committed students and firm friends. In this issue we pay tribute to them. We were able to catch up with most of the graduates to hear about life after Bingham. As you will read, they are truly impacting the world for God’s glory and we are very proud of all that God has achieved through them so far.

Nathan Coleman After graduation I moved to Winnipeg Manitoba. I worked for one year doing laboring and childcare. I then attended the University of Winnipeg and completed my Bachelor of Science. While I was there I met a wonderful woman named Maria. We got married between my first and second year of university. We are happily married and have four children: Michelle, Jason, Timothy and Jessica. After I graduated I took a year off to work and started a business with my brother in 3D design. I then attended medical school at the University of Manitoba. I am currently finishing my first year of residency at University of Manitoba's Family Medicine program in the Northern Remote Stream. My family and I plan to work in Northern Canada providing comprehensive medical care wherever God leads us to serve.

Leuel Maru In 2005 I moved to Toronto, Canada where I graduated college in 2010 in Graphic Design, majoring in Advertising. I’ve worked as a Graphic Designer and Coordinator for a magazine publication agency, a video production agency, an interior design and retail company, an interior design and renovation firm and, most recently, for a college in the health care industry. In the future, I am planning to work towards further certification and a career in Environmental Design.

Shalom Seleshi Since BA, I’ve been in school mostly. I completed a Bachelors in Business Management and worked a few years in the tourism and non-profit sectors. I recently graduated with an MBA in Corporate Management and have been working in banking since then. I am currently working as a market researcher at Berhan Bank and also part-time as a translator at Compassion International here in Ethiopia. I have now received an offer to do an LLM in International Commercial Law in the UK and, God willing, I’m planning to pursue that in the coming year.

2005 Graduates – 10 years on…

BINGHAM BITE JUNE 2015 4

Johanna Madany I spent my first four years after Bingham at the University of Washington in Seattle. I graduated from there with a double bachelors degree in International Studies and Public Health in 2009. Slowly, throughout undergrad, I figured out that I wanted to head towards some sort of career in health care. After a year working as a server at a breakfast restaurant in Seattle, I then headed to Cambodia through a volunteer organization and taught English and horseback riding lessons for a few months. It was great, challenging and very hot! After returning to Seattle I decided to pursue physical therapy. I spent a year taking the necessary prerequisite classes, got accepted to the University of Washington and so returned there to get my doctorate in physical therapy. And that journey is now (finally) coming to an end as I will graduate on June 12th. Once I pass my official board exams I’ll get my license as a physical therapist. I am hoping to find a job at the end of the summer in the general Seattle area as a pediatric physical therapist working with children with a variety of neuro-development and orthopedic diagnoses.

Asher Warren

During the past 10 years I graduated from Covenant College with a degree in Art. I moved to Baltimore, Maryland shortly after graduating. I've worked for the same advertising agency ever since. I'm currently the Senior Art Director. Four years ago I married Rachel Armstrong. We live in a very typical Baltimore row home with our dog Mazel.

You can see a little bit of my work at asherwarren.com

Sabina Dawit

After leaving Bingham, I moved to Canada and graduated from York University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. I worked for two years as a Senior Coordinator for a global charity dedicated to eliminating child labor and the social/economic conditions that surround the issue. I left to pursue a Master of Arts degree in Political Economy of International Development from the University of Toronto. Following a research position with an economic development organization, I now work in policy development with the provincial government.

Hanna Thunström

I’ve been living in Stockholm since May of 2006, and started studying at Stockholm University that same fall. After having exposure to several departments, I finally settled on Economics. I now have a Masters Degree in Economics and am working as a research assistant at an Economic Research Institute.

Asegedech Shimellis

After Bingham Academy I went to Ohio Wesleyan University and got a BA in Genetics, with a minor in History. Then I went on to medical school at the Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus Ohio. I graduated with my MD in May 2015. In June I’m going to Akron General Medical Center (still in Ohio) for a three-year residency in Emergency Medicine.

Axumawit Woldegebriel

After Bingham Academy I moved to Minnesota and graduated with a BA in International Studies with a focus on Political Science and Social Justice. I have worked as a Resettlement Program Director for Refugees in Wisconsin, a Fundraiser for AIDS Education and Support clinics in Ethiopia and as a Program Assistant and Development Support for a Refugee Resettlement Agency in Virginia. I am currently working for Shell Oil Company in Texas as an Event Planner. I am married to the love of my life and have one perfect little girl who is almost two years old.
