Assured PerformanceThe nature of waste water has changed over the last fewdecades. In recognition of this Klargester’s unique patentedManaged Flow System has been specifically designed tomaintain optimum performance despite shock organic loadingsand hydraulic surges. The detrimental effects of moderndisinfectants and cleaning materials are minimised by themanaged flow system.

Low Lifetime CostsA new design with greater use of standardised componentsthroughout the range means that Klargester’s new BioDisc®

provides a cost-effective solution for small scale waste watertreatment problems. A low energy drive system reduces powercosts substantially below those of pump and blower poweredalternatives. The high specification and reliability of all movingparts ensures a long trouble-free life for BioDisc®.

Commercial ApplicationsCertain commercial applications, such as pubs, clubs, hotelsand industrial units, place additional stresses on the wastewater treatment process. The sewage strength from thecocktail of detergents, cleaners, and chemicals demands agreater treatment capacity than a purely residential application.In such instances Klargester can advise on the best possibletreatment and BioDisc® can meet your requirements efficientlyand cost-effectively.

Long Term Peace of MindAll packaged waste water treatment plant require periodicservicing. A service and preventative maintenance programmeprolongs the life of the plant and identifies and rectifiesproblems before they become serious. Klargester informs endusers as part of the maintenance package, on the mechanical,electrical and process performance of equipment.

How BioDisc® WorksCentral to the operation of each BioDisc® is the RotatingBiological Contactor (RBC), which supports a biologicallyactive film or biomass. This consists of aerobic micro-organisms, naturally occurring in sewage which break downthe pollutants in the waste water flow.

BioDisc® BC-BG: For Applications WithPopulation Equivalents Between 18* and 70*BioDisc® BC to BG units are compact, self-contained, singlepiece treatment plants that utilise natural biological processesto effectively break down the pollutants in domestic andcommercial waste water. BioDisc® is ideal for small housingdevelopments, hotels, public houses and other smallcommercial developments. In addition to the standard model, nitrification units can bespecified where regulations require the reduction of ammonia.

Klargester’s BioDisc® design allows this to be achieved withsimple modifications rather than the specification of anoversized unit.

Legal RequirementsPrior to installation, there is a legal requirement to obtain aConsent to Discharge from the Environment Agency.Klargester offer full assistance in this respect.

Rotating Biological Contactor (RBC)

The RBC comprises banks of vacuum formed polypropylenemedia supported by a steel shaft. This is slowly rotated by alow energy consumption electric motor and drive assembly.

Deep Drain Invert

This provides the flexibility to connect with most incomingdrainage systems without the need for greater excavation depth.

The Treatment Process• Waste water flows into the primary settlement zone ❶

where solids are settled out and retained. Accumulatedsludge should be drawn out periodically.

• Partially clarified liquor flows into the managed flow sectionof the biozone ❷ .

• Here it is buffered both organically and hydraulically beforebeing fed at a controlled rate to the second stage of thebiozone ❸ for further biological treatment.

• Humus solids are settled out in the final settlement tank ❹ .

• The quality of the resultant effluent allows discharge into orclose to a water course, subject to discharge consents.
