1965 - 1968 Initiated and completed experimental and theoretical research on

dislocation-phonon interactions in single crystal metals at temperatures down to 10

K (-263 C), and at strain rates to 106/s (never achieved before). Designed and

constructed unique instrumented high rate machine (loading velocity of 1000 m/s);

proposed new theory of relativistic effects in dislocation motion.

1968 - 1975 Initiated composites program at Ford Motor Company’s Scientific

Research Laboratory; conducted first studies ever of fatigue behavior of carbon,

Kevlar and glass composites, car crash simulation, vibration of engine components,

and designed, built and tested world's first carbon fiber components for automotive

components including suspension and engine components.

1975 - 1982 Developed materials and processes for first composite microwave
