Biology with Lab Credits: 1 Course Description: This course is based on Georgia Virtual Learning’s High School and AP biology course and ck12.This curriculum includes more abstract concepts such as the interdependence of organisms, the relationship of matter, energy, and organization in living systems, the behavior of organisms, biological evolution and creation. Students investigate biological concepts through experience in laboratories and field work using the processes of inquiry. There are 21 Labs. Notes: Biology is an important part of the curriculum in today's society. Its subject matter touches our lives in important ways– ranging from molecular biology to principles of health, and from the diversity of plants and animals to concern for the environment. But as we get into Evolution, please remember that in Science when something has been observed enough, it becomes scientific law, it is stated as fact. But even these “laws” have been broken at times when all of a sudden, something different is observed. It was believed that the atom was the smallest thing in the universe. It was called fact. Then someone split it open and found protons and electrons. The point is that science only really tells us what has been observed. It doesn’t prove truth.

1 Evolutionary theory interprets biology as the result

of chance and competition, implying no meaning in existence. Where Creation proves to us that life does have meaning, how we treat our bodies and minds makes a difference. Healthful living habits contribute to a better life, and are worth the effort. Because God gave us responsibility for the environment, we can and should do our part to care for it. Because God is bigger than His creation, there is hope for a better future. Because God is the creator of all mankind, we are all of one family. Because life comes only from Him, it is to be regarded as precious. If the full implications of creationism were understood and practiced, it would prove a great benefit to society.

I will also state that with the scientific approach to Evolution their “laws” and theories are cut and dry with no actual explanations that explains everything that goes on this world. With the Scientific approach “laws” are changed and there are many questions that cannot be answered. ------------------- 1 Lee Giles

DAY 1-42

Labs: 6

DAY 1

1. (*)Print out your First Quarter Grading sheet or use the Excel version.

There are many pages that are marked as print but you may be able to fill them out by just downloading them or you

can write or type them on your own, whatever works best for you.

2. It is a good practice to assume that the amount of reading time will be equal to the time to complete the assignment on

the computer. You are encouraged to keep track, at least at the beginning, of the amount of time needed to complete

each assignment. This will help you learn to estimate the time needed on future assignments. Also keep in mind that

your success in Biology will be directly proportional to the amount of effort you invest. You should complete every

activity, including self-assessments, to strengthen your understanding of each concept.

3. Expectations

a) Do your best effort. Be responsible for your own learning.

b) Read directions carefully.

c) Believe in your abilities. Confidence is half the battle.

d) Read all text and supplementary materials as assigned.

e) Try, and then try again.

f) Complete all assignments as assigned.

g) Ask Questions!

h) Complete all bonus activities, even if you don’t need the points.

i) Practice. Practice. Practice.

4. Safety Laboratory safety is important. Although many labs are online, students will be conducting some labs at home.

All students are encouraged to wear protective equipment at all times while conducting labs.

5. Assignments

a) Save all your work to your hard drive or disk and also save it in another location (i.e. disk or flash drive).

Sometimes things can happen to your computer, and it may be necessary for you to prove that you have

completed all assignments.

b) Cheating and plagiarism will not be tolerated. If you are suspected of cheating, your work will not be accepted.

Cheating includes (but is not limited to) copying work from another student, using unauthorized materials during

a quiz or test, and plagiarism. Plagiarism is a specific kind of cheating that consists of using the work of others

and claiming it as your own. Please review the following examples of plagiarism and make a note to avoid these

practices.

● Submitting assignments with ideas, wording or phrasing from another source without providing credit.

● Working together with a group of students and each student submits the same assignment.

● Using direct quotes without quotation marks. (Note: direct quotes should be no longer than 40 words)

● Copying and then altering the passage without a proper citation.

6. Grading: You have the choice of using just your quiz and lab grades or you can grade your assignments too and add

them to your total grade. If you do not want to grade your assignments you can delete them from the grading sheet.

1. Lab Grading: There is a general Lab Rubric attached for Labs that do not have a specific rubric with it 2. Paragraph Grading: There is a Paragraph Grading Rubric to use on all assignments telling you to write a
