Eastman Business Park’s comprehensive suite of test, validation, prototyping and pilot manufacturing tools are
specifically designed to help accelerate innovation beyond the lab — from prototyping and proof of concept
into commercialization — especially in the biomaterials sector.
The Bioscience Manufacturing Center is at the heart of Eastman Business Park’s fully-integrated innovation
ecosystem for biomaterials innovation. This state-of-the-art fermentation center will have high-energy
stainless steel tanks ranging from 40K to 250K liters. It will be made available to companies as a toll
manufacturing facility to convert 30,000 tons of first and second generation sugars into a wide range of
renewable chemicals and biodegradable plastics. This exciting commercialization initiative poses a unique low
cap-ex solution for many mid-stage bio-companies, and will create hundreds of new advanced manufacturing
jobs.

Onsite Kodak facilities, complete with skilled scientists and engineers, are available to help advance biomaterials technology —
including a specialty chemicals production and pre-manufacturing center for high value molecules, and a solvent recovery operation
that can serve as a bio-refinery to process, store and ship biomaterials.
solvent recoveryKodak’s Solvent Recovery Operation has helped dozens of new external partners turn tons of industrial waste streams into profit centers — refining and oftentimes reselling high-purity solvent to new customers for reuse in a variety of applications. Or it can process crude stream into purified products, solving technical distillation problems for those producing advanced biofuels, including companies like GEVO, allowing these companies to focus their resources on their main innovation.
“Kodak‘s broad chemical processing capability and breadth of experience have enabled us to refine Isobutanol, a versatile chemical for use in a variety of petrochemical value chains, thus providing our customers with a bio-derived alternative to fossil fuels at a price that is competitive and less volatile than petroleum.”
— Greg Roda Chief Commercial Officer, GEVO
specialty ChemicalsWith 88 reactors ranging from 100 to 1,000 gallons, over 1,500 approved manufacturing processes and a proprietary database of over 100,000 molecules, Kodak Specialty Chemicals has the capacity and expertise to address chemistry scale up, custom synthesis and toll manufacturing needs for biotech companies like Sweetwater Energy and Novomer. Product specialties include heterocycles, complex organic products, functional dyes, photoactive compounds and specialty polymers.
“Kodak’s Specialty Chemicals Group at Eastman Business Park continues to help us leverage our smaller start-up staff on the R&D side, not just in interacting with their scientists but also in having access to their labs and equipment. Sweetwater is now building a demonstration-scale system in close proximity to the Specialty Chemicals facility. Kodak’s Specialty Chemicals has saved us a lot of money and they continue to deliver exceptional product and support.”
— Arunas Chesonis CEO, Sweetwater Energy
naturally scientific U.s.Under a joint venture between UK-based Naturally Scientific and BCW Chemicals, a New York-based LLC, Naturally Scientific US (NSUS) has plans to establish operations at Eastman Business Park, where the company will convert concentrated C5 and C6 sugar solutions into high-value oils for a broad range of industrial applications.

Biomaterials innovation Eastman Business Park is helping some of our nation’s best and brightest clean technology companies become profitable, self-
sustaining, job-creating enterprises quickly and economically. With over 50 companies employing thousands of workers on site,
Eastman Business Park is a critical component of the commercialization solution for biomaterials companies.
“The combination of world class structure at Eastman Business Park and supportive business environment in New York State, led by Governor Cuomo, made it clear that choosing Eastman Business Park as our US headquarters was in our company’s best interest, and in the best interest of the community.”
— Keith Wilson Managing Partner Naturally Scientific U.S.
Cerion energyCerion Energy invented, and is manufacturing, a diesel fuel catalyst that cuts consumption, reduces costs and lowers emissions in the multi-billion dollar diesel fuel business. It is also working on collaborative projects with local partners in the areas of battery technology, biopharmaceuticals and other fuel catalysts.
“Without Eastman Business Park, we would have had to build our own pilot-scale production capability and purchase our own lab equipment, costing considerable investor capital. In addition, we have been able to take full advantage of Kodak’s vast knowledge dealing with a sophisticated manufacturing operation, as well as the ability to maneuver through complex environmental and regulatory compliance issues — not to mention a unique infrastructure that includes access to utilities, logistics and materials handling support services.” — Matt Winslow Vice President of Business Development, Cerion
novomerA sustainable materials company, Novomer, Inc. keeps winning international recognition for pioneering the development of a family of high-performance plastics, polymers and other chemicals from renewable feedstocks such as carbon dioxide (CO2).
“By partnering with Eastman Business Park, we were able to scale-up our new technology innovation with a much smaller degree of risk and investment. We not only gained access to their reactors and analytical tools, Eastman Business Park helped us demonstrate on a small scale; then they helped us map out the next phase from a process, review and validation standpoint. As a result, they helped us scale up production from 25 gallons to 1,100 gallons of product within a shortened time period.”
— ron Valente PhD, Vice President of r&D, novomer
