The new palm vein device by Fujitsu is anauthentication system that utilizes the latest inbiometric security technology. Answering aworldwide need from governments to the privatesector, this contactless device offers an easy-to-use, hygienic solution for verifying identity.

The new palm vein device by Fujitsu worksby capturing a person’s vein pattern imagewhile radiating it with near-infrared rays. Thedeoxidized hemoglobin in the palm veinabsorbs these rays, thereby reducing the reflection rate and causing the veins toappear as a black pattern. This vein pattern is then verified against a pre-registeredpattern to authenticate the individual.

As veins are internal in the body and have a wealth of differentiating features,attempts to forge an identity are extremely difficult, thereby enabling a high level ofsecurity. Additionally, the sensor of the palm vein device can only recognize the patternif the deoxidized hemoglobin is actively flowing within the individual’s veins.

The opportunities to implement palm vein technology span a wide range ofvertical markets, including security, financial/banking, healthcare, commercialenterprises and educational facilities. Applications for the device include physicaladmission into secured areas; log-in to PCs or server systems; access to POS,ATMs or kiosks; positive ID control; and other industry-specific applications.
