Folic Acid

Supplements containing the B vitaminfolic acid may help reduce the risk ofheart disease, stroke, and blood clotsassociated with high levels of the aminoacid homocysteine in the blood. Whilehomocysteine is a normal byproduct ofmetabolism of the amino acidmethionine, high levels of it in the bloodcan be dangerous.

B Vitamin Folic Acid Studies have shown that with each unit increase of

homocysteine, the risk of ischemic heart disease, which reducesblood flow to the heart, increased by 32 to 42 percent. Risks forstroke and deep vein thrombosis (DVT), blood clots in deepveins that can be life threatening, showed similar increases.Folicacid helps to break down homocysteine, and it is thought thathomocysteine levels can be lowered with daily folic acidsupplements, thereby reducing the risks of heart disease, strokeand DVT.

However, the review notes that because few studies haveshown that folic acid prevents these conditions, the AmericanHeart Association does not recommend taking the vitaminspecifically for this purpose.

Vit D

Women who take vitamin D supplementslower their risk of death from heart disease byone-third.Low levels of vitamin D in the bloodhave previously been correlated with higherrisk of heart disease and heart attacks. Dr.Paul D. Varosy set out to determine if takingvitamin D supplements decreases this risk.

His team analyzed data from nearly 10,000women over the age of 65 who were enrolledin a study of how often osteoporosis causesbroken bones.

Vit D

Of these, more than 4,200 women reported that theytook vitamin D supplements at the time of the study,and another 733 reported a prior history ofsupplement use.

After following the women for an average of nearly 11years, researchers found that the risk of heartdisease death was 31% lower in those women whowere taking vitamin D at the time of the study.

The researchers note that calcium supplements,education, self-reported health status or health-related behaviors had no effect on the protectionafforded by vitamin D.

Vit D

An interesting study that shows that enormouspotential benefit of vitamin Dsupplementation.Vitamin D works by loweringinsulin resistance, which is also one of themajor factors leading to the number one killerin the US, heart disease. Northern countrieshave higher levels of heart disease and moreheart attacks occur in the wintermonths.Vitamin D is one of my favoritenutrients to optimize for people as it is thesunshine vitamin.

Vit D

Ideally the best way to obtain vitamin D would befrom the sun. So the study would have been farbetter if it has actually measured these women'svitamin D levels.

In the winter months, nearly everyone seems tobenefit from cod liver oil supplementation which has anatural form of vitamin D.

However, from May to September, for those of uswho live in the US, if we have regular sun exposure itwould be wise to avoid cod liver oil during this time asit is clearly possible to overdose on vitamin D.

Heart Disease

Contrary to popular belief, high cholesterol is not themajor cause of heart disease. Fortunately, we aremoving slowly away from the original diet-hearthypothesis that advocated low-fat diets for a healthyheart.The real key to preventing heart disease is touse a combined approach, one that treats all facetsof your physical and emotional health. It's extremelyimportant to eat real foods based on your metabolictypeハ(to determine whether a low-fat, high-fat orother diet is best for you) and to get out and exercise--regularly and intensely enough.

Heart Disease

Further, you must address stress andyour emotions, as too much stress andnegative emotions will contributesignificantly to this disease.

Heart disease is still the #2 cause ofdeath in the USA.

I believe that STRESS is the mostprominent factor.

DHA/EPA - Omega 3’s

Nutrients found in fish such as tuna may have beneficial effectson the heart's electrical system, preventing potentially life-threatening heart rhythm disorders.

Baked or Broiled, Not Fried A new study analyzed electrocardiogram information from more

than 5,000 adults. Those who ate more baked or broiled fishhad healthier heart rhythms. Fried fish did not offer the samebenefits, suggesting that the omega-3 fats found in baked andbroiled fish were the cause.

Direct Effect on the Circuitry Fish intake has previously been connected with a reduced of

irregular heart beats. Animal studies suggest that fish oil directlyaffects the heart's electrical circuitry.Journal of the AmericanCollege of Cardiology July 12, 2006

Omega 3’s

It is important to have a complete picture ofomega-3 fatsハto effectively implement andbenefit long-term from these importantfindings.

Most experts have yet to understand thesignificance of the toxic contamination ofmany omega-3 sources with mercury andtoxins like PCBs.

They are still recommending that patients should eatfish, particularly tuna, to get them. Fish would beideal source of omega-3s ... if they weren'tcontaminated with mercury.

As it is, they are best avoided.Omega-3s can dowonderful things for your health, from helping youbeat prostate cancer to improving your mental health.

DHA

Receptors for certain neurotransmittersin your brain are normally made from anomega-3 fat called DHA.

If you don't have much DHA in yourblood, your body may use man-madetrans-fat molecules as a constructionmaterial instead.

DHA

But trans-fats are shaped differentlythan DHA, so the receptors becomedeformed and don't work very well.

This can lead to problems likedepression and problems concentrating,especially in children whose brains isstill developing.

Krill Oil

Krill oil is not onlyハmercury-free and full of thebeneficial-omega-3s, but in addition:・

Krill oil is more stable than fish oil ・ Krill are at the bottom of the food chain and have

virtually no time to grow and acquire toxic heavymetals ・

The omega-3 fats in krill oil have a phosphateattached, which allows it to work far more effectivelyin your brain ・ They are packed with cancer-preventing antioxidants as well

What is Krill

Krill are tiny, shrimp-like crustaceans thatflourish in the Antarctic Ocean and providefood for numerous aquatic animals. Oil madefrom krill has come on the market as analternative to fish oil .

Like fish oil, krill oil contains the omega-3 fattyacids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) anddocosahexaenoic acid (DHA).

Krill also contains omega-6 fatty acids , anantioxidant in the carotenoid family calledastaxanthin , and substances calledphosopholipids.

You need all omega 3’s

While you should certainly consume plantbased omega-3 fats that have ALA, yousimply can not rely on them for your body toproduce enough healthy DHA.

On the other hand you should also avoid DHAonly products as your body needs all omega-3 fats, ALA, EPA and DHA. If you overload onanyone of them you can run into problems.

DHA/EPA

There are a number of high quality fishoils that will work just fine for many andyou are likely to find some in your localhealth food store. But new researchsuggests that one of the best sources ofomega-3 fats maybe krill oil.
