Bipartisan Senators Agree on $1.2 Trillion Infrastructure BillAfter weeks of negotiating, a bipartisan group of senators reached a deal on "the major issues" in their $1.2 trillioninfrastructure package, GOP senators involved in the talks announced Wednesday. Broadband deployment spendingremains a major part of the legislation. While it could be days before they finish writing the measure, the deal meansthe Senate can now begin debating the legislation in earnest, according to Axios.
“We now have an agreement on the major issues," Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH), the lead GOP negotiator, saidWednesday afternoon. "There is a CBO [Congressional Budget Office] official score that covers much of the bill,"Portman said, something many GOP senators deemed necessary before voting on the measure. Continue Reading
Bloc Party in NYCBloc Power is the sixth vendor to sign on to the Internet Master Plan for Universal Broadband in New York City.According to NYC.gov, the addition of this new player will bring affordable internet service to 10,000 households inthe Bronx. The recipients are spread out over five NYCHA developments: Melrose, East 152 Street-CourtlandtAvenue, Forest, Morris I, and Morris II. Those who choose to enroll will pay nothing for their first year of connectivity,and only $15 a month thereafter. “With every additional New Yorker who gains access to affordable, high-speed internet, we bring this City one stepcloser to being the fairest, most equitable big city in the country,” stated Deputy Mayor for Operations, Laura Anglin.“We celebrate this additional deployment of broadband in the Bronx, bringing thousands of residents consistentconnection to the digital world.” Continue Reading Middle Mile Broadband Deployment Act IntroducedSens. Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Angus King (I-ME) introduced the Middle Mile Broadband Deployment Act. Thislegislation would help build needed broadband infrastructure to connect internet carriers to local networks andcommunity institutions in order to increase broadband access to unserved and underserved communities.
Much of the national debate around broadband access has focused on connecting residences to the internet, calledconnecting the “last-mile.” There have been fewer conversations on the federal level about “middle-mile,” the sectionof a network that connects the internet backbone to a local connection site, which often includes anchor institutionssuch as schools, libraries, or government offices, say the lawmakers. National Weather Service Relying on Towers to Deliver New WarningsRemembering to set your cell phone to accept government alert notifications of approaching hazardous weatherconditions could save lives. As WPMT-TV in York, Pennsylvania reports, the National Weather Service has expandedits Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) storm warnings to include a Destructive category. If a Destructive alert is issued,recipients should brace for dangerous conditions that could include 80 mph winds and baseball sized hail. Phones within range of cell towers in the danger area will issue wireless emergency alerts similar to tornado warningsgiving people time to seek safety. “That would actually send on your cell phone based on the tower that your phone ispicking up on within the warning polygon,” Warning Coordination Meteorologist at NWS State College, JonathanGuseman, explained to a WPMT-TV reporter. “So the warnings are still going to be the same as they have but what’sgoing to change is there’s these new, what’s called damage threat tags," he added. FCC Enrolls 4M Households in EBBMore than four million households have been enrolled in the FCC’s Emergency Broadband Benefit Program (EBB),which it says is the nation’s largest broadband affordability program to date. The $3.2 billion subsidy program initiatedby Congress provides a temporary $50 to $75 discount on eligible households’ internet bills during the duration of thepandemic.
Over 1100 broadband providers have agreed to take part in the EBB program. The benefit is available to eligible new,prior, and existing customers of participating providers.

Zacks Equity Research projects “events are shaping up quite nicely” for one of the world’s biggest towercos. Zackscited that AMT’s earnings activity, as of late, has been positive and is a strong indicator there will be a continueduptick in that category. “Analysts raising estimates right before earnings, with the most up-to-date informationpossible, is a pretty good indicator of some favorable trends underneath the surface for AMT in this report,” Zackssaid in a preview report. British Regulators “Sherlock” Proposed Cellnex Tower AcquisitionThe U.K.’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is launching a full investigation regarding the proposedacquisition of the passive infrastructure assets of CK Hutchison Holdings Limited and its subsidiaries by Cellnex UKLimited. Mobile Europe reported that Barcelona-based Cellnex Telecom agreed to purchase 24,600 towers across theU.K., Italy, Ireland, Austria, Sweden, and Denmark from CK Hutchinson for $11.7 billion.
The CMA said it would investigate the proposed deal "on the basis that…it is or may be the case that this merger hasresulted or may be expected to result in a substantial lessening of competition within a market or markets in theUnited Kingdom.” Mobile Europe reported that regulators are wary of decreased competition. According to regulators,since Cellnex’s rise has been fast, with 128,000 sites across Europe, it might capture an “unhealthy dominantposition” in the U.K. marketplace.

LEAF Communications has grown into a nationwide, full-service integrator, establishing a reputation and developingrelationships along the way.
When LEAF Communications began in 2013, it diversified out of necessity. Because carriers’ needs are changing allthe time, sometimes daily, it can be challenging for a small company to meet those needs with trained personnel on atimely basis.
At the time, the services industry was fragmented into firms specializing in different areas, such as site acquisition,architecture and engineering (A&E), and construction services. But diversifying into multiple services meant LEAFCommunications could smooth out the ebbs and flows of carrier work, says Dan Leaf, CEO and President of LEAFCommunications.
“We thought, what if we owned those services in-house? It’s a harder model to build, but the foundation it providesgives us much more depth,” Leaf said.

Dan Dooley, Former President of Sprint, Joins Lynk as Chief Commercial OfficerLynk Global Inc. the space-based mobile network connectivity provider, yesterday announced that Dan Dooley hasjoined the company as chief commercial officer (CCO). Dooley has held senior executive positions at major telecomcorporations, including serving as a president at Sprint. His most recent experience was in the roaming market aschief revenue officer with Tomia, and prior to that as president at Transaction Network Services.
As CCO, Dooley will be primarily responsible for building upon and enhancing Lynk’s 30 plus partnerships with globalmobile network operators and technology companies.
