Footsteps of Jesus

commemorate the appearance of the angels to the shepherds and celebrate Mass. We move to the Church of the Nativity built over the stable where Jesus was born. Bending low, we enter the church through the Door of Humility and descend into the Grotto of the Holy Manger. A silver star in the floor marks the very spot where Christ was born. Proceed to the renowned Bethlehem University where we will have a tour and enjoy a meal prepared by the hospitality students.

DAY 10: TUESDAY 8 OCT - JERUSALEM (BD)We head to the Mt of Olives this morning where we will visit the Church of the ‘Pater Noster’ and enjoy a panoramic view over the city. We then enter the Jewish cemetery for a guided walk and upon our exit we commence our walk down the Palm Sunday Road, wandering past the tombs of the Prophets. Finally, we arrive at the Dominus Flevit for Mass, the church which was built on the site where Jesus wept over the city of Jerusalem .We then visit the Garden of Gethsemane, where we will enter the Church of the Agony containing the bare rock upon which Jesus is said to have prayed before his arrest. Here, we will have the opportunity for a time of reflection in one of the private gardens.In the afternoon we pass through the walls of the Old City to the vicinity of the Temple Mount to view the Dome of the Rock, El Aqsa Mosque and the Wailing Wall. We come to the Church of St Anne built over the birthplace of the Virgin Mary, and visit the Pool of Bethesda where Jesus healed the paralysed man.

DAY 11: WEDNESDAY 9 OCT - JERUSALEM (BD)Following breakfast, we travel to Ein Karem, the birthplace of St John the Baptist and site of the Visitation of Mary to Elizabeth. We then visit the Israel Museum where we have an orientation viewing of the Second Temple scale model of Jerusalem as it was in the time of Jesus. Then proceed to the Shrine of the Book to view the Dead Sea Scrolls with our own eyes. Visit the Church of St Peter in Gallicantu for Mass, where in the prison below Our Lord was interrogated and imprisoned.

exploring this site, we travel through Sowers Bay before continuing through Magdala, the town of Mary Magdalene. Visit the Nof Ginosar Kibbutz, within which is preserved the remains of a first century fishing boat as in the days of Christ. We then set off in a traditional sailing vessel for one of our most memorable pilgrimage highlights – a Private Mass floating in the centre of Lake Galilee. Afterwards, enjoy a special ‘St Peter’s fish’ lunch.Travel on to Tabgha, site of the multiplication of the loaves and fishes, before an important stop at the Church of the Primacy of Peter.

DAY 7: SATURDAY 5 OCT - NAZARETH, CANA & MT TABOR (BD)This morning we travel Nazareth, the town of Jesus’ childhood. We enter inside the Basilica of the Annunciation and celebrate Mass. Continue to the village of Cana where Jesus, at the request of His Mother, performed his first miracle transforming the water into wine.We then travel to the foot of Mt Tabor before ascending by taxis up the narrow winding road leading to the majestic summit.

DAY 8: SUNDAY 6 OCT - HAIFA & CAESAREA TO JERUSALEM (BD)Continue this morning to the town of Haifa where the Mediterranean Sea wraps around it’s three sides with intoxicating blue and gold beaches. We visit the House of Grace, a Catholic ministry that works with the most marginalised members of Haifa. We then visit Mount Carmel, the Carmelite Monastery, Chapel of the Holy Family and Elijah’s cave. We then continue south to the crusader port city of Caesarea to see the maritime city built by Herod the Great and once the Roman capital of Israel. Visit the impressive excavations, the amphitheatre and the Herodian port. Finally, we continue our journey up to Jerusalem – the City of our God.

DAY 2: MONDAY 30 SEP - MT NEBO & AMMAN (D)This morning we fly into Amman where we meet our guide and travel west to ascend Biblical Mt Nebo for a spectacular Mass. We enjoy an Amman orientation tour en-route to our hotel in Amman.

DAY 3: TUESDAY 1 OCT - VIA JERASH TO DEAD SEA (BD)This morning we travel north to visit the ancient preserved Roman city of Jerash. We then travel south and arrive the Dead Sea to check-in to our beautiful hotel located down on the shore. Here we will unwind and take the optional opportunity to float in the salty waters said to have healing qualities.

DAY 4: WEDNESDAY 2 OCT - BETHANY BEYOND THE JORDAN & MADABA (BD)Following breakfast we make a special visit to Bethany Beyond the Jordan, one of the most recent archaeological and religious discoveries. The five springs here form a tributary of the Jordan River, believed to be the Baptismal site of Jesus by John the Baptist. We will celebrate Mass, renew our Baptismal promises and see the beautiful Orthodox Church.

DAY 5: THURSDAY 3 OCT - TO TIBERIAS (BD)This morning we continue west across the Jordan River border into the Holy Land of Israel known as the land of the “fifth Gospel”.Ascend the Mt of Beatitudes as we celebrate Mass and afterwards, continue to Tiberias on the shores of Lake Galilee.

DAY 12: THURSDAY 10 OCT - MASADA/JERICHO (BLD)Journey along the Jericho Road through desert hills and dry rocky landscape, passing by the site of Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered by a Bedouin shepherd boy. We continue to the historical Masada where we embark on a cable car offering spectacular scenery to the summit. Here we will enjoy a guided tour of Herod’s fortress. Travel then back to Jericho the ‘City of Palms’, said to be the oldest inhabited city and most famous oasis. Across the valley we see the Mt of Temptation, site of Jesus’ fast of 40 days. We enjoy a traditional Palestinian meal before continuing to Bethany where we relive the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead. Here we will celebrate Mass at the Church of St Lazarus before returning to our hotel.

DAY 13: FRIDAY 11 OCT - JERUSALEM (BD)Arise early this morning as we commence our Stations of the Cross, beginning from the Antonia Fortress where Jesus was condemned to death. See the Lithostrotos (pavement) in the Ecce Homo convent. Visit nearby the Flagellation and Condemnation Chapels as we follow in Our Lord’s footsteps along the Via Dolorosa to the site of Calvary and celebrate Mass in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Walk the stairway climbing to the actual site where the Cross of Jesus once stood. Enter the Edicule containing the tomb where Our Lord rose from the dead.After free time this afternoon we enjoy a special dinner for our final night in the Holy Land, Jerusalem overnight

DAY 14: SATURDAY 12 OCT - TO ROME (BD)Early this morning we travel to Tel Aviv Airport for our flight to Rome, the Eternal City.

Our Christian Rome pilgrimage this afternoon features the impressive St. Mary Major Basilica. Onwards to the Basilica of St. John in Lateran and the adjacent Holy Stairs brought from Jerusalem to Rome in 326AD by St Helena.Finally we visit the Basilica of Santa Croce with its extraordinary collection of relics from the Holy Land including a full size replica of the Shroud of Turin. Mass this afternoon will be celebrated at one of the three Basilicas.

DAY 15: SUNDAY 13 OCT - ROME PILGRIMAGE (BD)

After a private Mass at St Peter’s Basilica we come to the nearby Vatican Museums for an unforgettable guided tour. Wander the spectacular chambers leading to the Sistine Chapel to view Michelangelo’s masterpieces. Continue the stunning exploration tour before our free time this afternoon to discover the sights of Rome. Indulge in a gelato or enjoy a coffee while absorbing and admiring the history of this ancient city. (Possible Scavi Tour – subject to confirmation)

DAY 16: MONDAY 14 OCT - ROME PILGRIMAGE (BD)

This morning we enter the Colosseum declared a sacred site as early Christians had been martyred here. View also the Circus Maximus and the Roman Forum en route.

Continue to the Basilica of St Paul Outside the Walls as a special tribute to the Church’s greatest evangelist. Here we will celebrate our group Mass. Journey on to the ancient Catacombs for a memorable guided tour. Marvel at these underground burial tunnels for Christians and Hebrews.

DAY 17: TUESDAY 15 OCT - DEPART ROME (B)

This morning we are transferred back to Rome airport for our homebound flight connections.
