BizTown: Lots of learning and funBy: Andrew Cain

T his year, 5th graders went on a field trip called BizTown. It was pretty much a city inside a small building. They had so much

fun learning about the way money moves through the economy and working with their businesses.

“BizTown is so important,” Mrs. Flannery said. “Because you get to learn about how money flows throughout the economy and how you play a part in it. Also you actually get to role play as if you were your parents.”

BizTown is so much fun because you get to ride in a

luxury bus, pretend to be an adult, and get to stop at Dairy Queen for an ice cream cone.

“From a teacher’s point of view,” Flannery added. “You get to sit back and watch your hard work when the kids go off to ‘work’.”

The BizTown field trip is one experience every 5th grader will not forget. And for the 5th grade teachers, it is also an unforgettable experience.

“I love this field trip.” Flannery said. “It’s a life experience that opens up our eyes to new jobs that could eventually be our future professions.”

CHICK HATCHING INFORMATION• Any class is welcome at anytime to go to Mrs.

Arthur’s class and see the eggs and/or chicks.

• If you are interested in adopting a chick and have discussed this your parents, go talk to Mrs. Arthurs.

First graders are hatching baby chicks!

The eggs are being kept in warming device, while students observe the hatching process. The chicken species is banter. A banter chick is a smaller kind of chick. Mrs. Galvin is arranging to have a place for the chicks to go after they hatch. She plans on giving the chickens to a woman who owns a ranch in Sonoita. The first graders are excited about the sixteen eggs that will hatch somewhere around the first week of May. But the excitement of these hatches is not excluded to only 1st graders. Get to know...Mr. CochranBy: Amelia Smejkal

Three things you may not know about Mr. Cochran:1. He played bass in a rock band.2. He drives a Mustang.3. He has ten grandchildren.

Favorite Vacation Spot: A cruise to the Yucatan Pennisula

Favorite Movie: Eddie and the Cruisers

Favorite Word: m’office. It means “my office”

When you were a young kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?: I wanted to be a rock n’ roll star.

If you could change one thing about Copper Creek, what would it be?: I would change the parking lot because it is hard to go in and out.

Favorite thing about Copper Creek: The kids because I like to work with them.

Trench vs. MoserballBy: Wyatt Hibner

Trench vs. Moserball: the recess debate. Students at Copper Creek may think differently about which is better, Trench

or Moserball, but I went straight down to the source and asked the two people that make the intermural happen. Mr. Felix said that he likes them equally because the students aren’t bored, and as a student, they both are a thrill to play because you need to work as a team. In addition, Mr. Felix pointed out that Moserball works because kids like to play capture the flag. He also likes to help out as much as pos-sible because he loves to see the kids have fun.

On the other hand, Mr. Crawford likes Trench

A visit from a 6th graderBy: Ashley Konola

So as is the case every year, Copper Creek is always blessed to be visited by former Copper Creek students. Last month,

the Turquoise Times was blessed to be visited by Abby Pincus, a Turquoise Times alumni. And so as is the case with all good reporting, we decided to ask Abby some quick questions about her experience as a sixth grader at Wilson.

Is there a lot of homework in 6th grade? It depends on your teacher. I am in a little more advanced classes, so it is harder.

How many periods are there? There are seven periods, but 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th periods are with the same teacher.

Are there more bullies in middle school compared to elementary school?Just like in elementary school, middle school has their share of bullies. There always seems to be one group of kids who are mean, but there are some very kind kids too in middle school. Also, 8th graders are the ones that are always the meanest.

better, not because of how it runs, but of how competitive it is. Also, he said that there is more of a cheating window in Moserball because many things are happening at the same time. Where in Trench it is cut and dry, if you get hit with the ball, you’re out. You see Mr. Crawford also said that boys and girls are equally good in Trench. Plus, a girl is usually the last one to get out because the boys underestimate the girl’s ability.

Now that you see what the organizers of the games think, why don’t you tell us what you think. Which game is more fun, Trench or Moserball?!

RetractionThe Turquoise Times would like to apologize for information that we reported in the last issue that was not accurate. We reported that Mrs. Cramer teaches Kindergarten and she actually teaches First Grade.

Teachers’ scoop on TubacBy: Sienna Ritzel & Bella Palma

Every year 4th grade students go on a field trip to Tubac State Park. We asked the 4th grade teachers about their opinions on the field trip. All 4th grade teachers agreed the field trip was a success.

“My favorite part was writing on the real blackboard,” Mrs. Roberts said.

They all enjoyed dressing up and role-playing Mrs. Black, the infamous Tubac teacher from the late 1800s.

The field trip is a great opportunity for 4th graders to participate as a student during Arizona’s earlier history: the days of the “Wild West.” They get to sit at old-fashioned wooden desks in a one-room school house. Then they must be quiet and listen closely to a school lesson. If they don’t behave, they could end up wearing a dunce cap.

“My students loved the field trip and were extremely happy,” Ms. Hinz said.

Mrs. Naugle added, “My students did not want to leave and truly traveled back in time.”

Fourth grade has been enjoying this field trip to Tubac for at least 13 years and hopes to enjoy it for years to come.
