TITLE GAMES: Miles and
Albany State vie for SIAC
honors. Winston-Salem
State faces Virginia State
for CIAA crown.
TITLE TIMEIN ATLANTA,W-SALEM
O'NEAL
day to take the East Division crown.
The SIAC title game is a rematch of a Sept.
28th meeting this year that saw Miles come
away with a 22-14 win. The game is also a re-match of the inaugural SIAC title game in 2011
where Miles downed Albany State, 20-17.
SWAC title game participants were also
determined last week. Alcorn State's 50-35
win over Prairie View Thursday night gave the
West Division title to Southern.
Jackson State grabbed the East Division
title with its 26-20 win over Alabama A&M
Saturday. Jackson State and Southern will meet
in the 15th SWAC Championship Game on Sat-
urday, Dec. 7 at Reliant Stadium in Houston. Norfolk State injected some drama into the
MEAC race Saturday with its 27-24 win over
BCSP No. 1 and MEAC leader Bethune-Cook-
man. The loss dropped B-CU into a tie withSouth Carolina State for the conference lead.
The CIAA title game pits two teams cur-rently ranked in the top eight in Super Region I
while the SIAC battle has two teams outside the
Super Region II top eight. The top eight teams
from the region receive playoff berths.
WSSU is ranked second in Region I whileVSU is ranked sixth. WSSU, last year's national
Div. II runner-up, is all but assured of a playoff
berth regardless of the outcome of Saturday's
contest. VSU needs a win to lock down a berth
but may earn one of the spots with a loss.
While WSSU was expected to get back tothe title game, V-State has been the surprise of
the league. The Trojans were picked to nish fth
in the six-team North Division but ran the table,
losing only to Benedict of the SIAC in their
rst year under new head coach Latrell Scott.
WSSU comes in with the league's top of -fense, averaging 40.2 points and 476.2 yards per
game, and the top defense, giving up just 15.4
points and 234.6 yards per game.
Quarterback Rudy Johnson is
the league passing leader (230.6ypg.) while Maurice Lewis (791
yards, 11 TDs) leads the ground
game. Johnson's chief target has
been freshman Chase Powell
(54 rec., 7 TDs).
The stingy Rams' defense is led by line-backer Carlos Fields (67 tackles) and lineman

the win over Tuskegee. Thomas
will likely lead the Bears against
Albany State in the title game. He

Bears to that victory. Antonio Pitts (36 rec., 3
TDs) leads the Bears receivers. Terry Emmett
