NarrativeThe narrative of the story is about a man who is working late and tries to copy some work and accidentally prints out a piece of paper with a large black dot in the centre. It turns out that the black dot is a black hole which allows the user to reach through surfaces with ease. At first the man begins to take sweets from a vending machine but gets greedy and steals money from a safe. The piece of paper drops while he is inside and he is trapped.• The message conveyed in this short is about karma

and greed.• There is no script for this short meaning that the

narrative is told entirely by the character’s expressions and actions. This is a really strong way of telling a story which can only be done in short films.

Media LanguageMise-en-scene

• The lighting throughout the whole of this short is low key and dull/grey. This can be used to capture the emotions of the character, such as depression, or provoke an enigma.

• The appearance of the character gives the impression that he is a man who is having to work late hours and is tired of his job. This is shown by his depressed facial expression and his slumped stature.

Media LanguageSound

• For this short, there is no script. There is no dialogue used throughout the whole film which means the only sounds you here are the diegetic sounds of his actions.

• There is also non-diegetic sounds used which is a deep rising bass sound used whenever he puts his hand through the black hole. This is used to emphasise the interest of the black hole and make it seem more unworldly and surreal.

Media LanguageEditing

• The short opens with an interesting transition of a widening circle revealing the character. This connects with the title of the film and the main prop used in it.

• The film mainly uses jump cuts.• The pace of editing is fast (being

a short, it is not uncommon). It is especially fast during the scene where he steals money from a safe. This matches his agitated emotions.
