Cherea Bonds ˜ Founder of :Sponsoring Thousands At A Time 2-Greatness;Help enough people get what they want, and you’ll get what you want by default. That’s the state-

ment that drives Cherea Bonds toward being the best that she can be. Since a young child, she hasbelieved in the fact that you can do or be anything you can imagine, and this has stuck with herthroughout her life and still motivates her today.

Mrs. Bonds has always strived for a life of abundance, knowing this type of life would allow herto not only experience achieving some of her goals and dreams, but more importantly, allow her tohelp others with their goals and dreams. One of her deepest passions lies in helping the youth of ourcommunities. After working in corporate America, Mrs. Bonds realized that a 9 to 5 was not whatshe wanted for the rest of her life. She wanted something better for herself and to be able to offersomething better to her 3 children.

Cherea set out to find a new lifestyle in being an Entrepreneur and controlling her own destiny. Currently Mrs.Bonds owns and operates a property management company, Safeway I CManagement Inc., located in the Lawndalearea of Chicago’s Westside. By the grace of God, Safeway has been blessed to survive all the Real Estate fiascos,and has been able to remain a viable business, affording Mrs. Bonds the chance to provide housing for low incomefamilies. Recognizing that the needs of the people are so great.

Cherea has learned to tune into the needs of her residents, thus finding herself wearing many different hats. Tosome she has become a teacher, for those who need some understanding, a mentor to those looking for direction, asocial worker to those in dire situations, a counselor to those who are confused, and all the other professions sur-rounding people, who are crying for help.

Desperately wanting to give more and expose people to the fact that life has so much to offer, Cherea Bondshas been able to assist those who have a vision for their future, an opportunity to join her on the entrepreneurshipband wagon.

Cherea's excitement about impacting people’s lives, and setting multitudes of individuals on their way to en-trepreneurship is what drives her everyday. In 2010 Cherea founded a company called STAT 2-G, which is anacronym for Sponsoring Thousands At A Time 2-Greatness. The mission of S.T.A.T. 2-G is to develop and assisthundreds, and even thousands of Entrepreneurs in achieving their goals and dreams, to live their lives to the fullest,and then to reach back and help as many people as they can do the same. “When individuals, and in particular theyouth catch the vision of the mission, the excitement in my heart is undescribable” says Mrs Bonds.

Cherea believes that the excitement of success, coupled with determination, will set any individual light yearsahead of the their peers. “You know when you’re on the right track”,Mrs. Bonds says, “when well respected busi-nessmen and women, and business professionals offer to help sponsor youth who show a commitment to havingtheir own business, thus paying it forward from the blessings they are currently living.” She is about impactinglives, and along her journey she’s seeking out individuals who want something out of life, who can show commit-ment for what the team does, and then is willing to put in the work to get it done. James Dentley ˜ Why I do what I doAll of my life I just wanted to do something special. I wanted to make a difference. I wanted to

make my Mother and Father proud; I wanted to buy my Mother a house. I have three incrediblesisters and I guess I was always the one with HDAD—High- Def-Attention –Disorder! I have al-ways had a gift to retain information and to train others when I chose to focus, and work ethic wasnever a problem, neither was taking risks in business. I have always enjoy being apart of some-thing big! Something greater that what most people in my circle thought was possible, but mostof all, I love helping in any way other people to live their dreams. Growing up as a dreamer cansometimes be a lonely place, so I guess I’d go out and start my own community. The best way tosum it all up can be found in this email I received last week from a young lady that attended anevent where I was speaking about 2 years ago. I believe in dreams, yours and mine! I believein God! I believe in the power of the human spirit and all of our potential.

Conferences, workshops, seminars . . . I've done them all . . . attended, assisted and even hostedmy own. I con-sideredmyself a seminar professional, or, rather, a professional seminargoer. Onemore, I thought to myself, would-n't make an appreciable difference in my life. Or would it?

It was at the end of Powerteam International's Inspiration2020 in Los Angeles, a city I love to visit. Making iteven more enticing was the $10.00 flight from Las Vegas that weekend. What a bonanza!!!!!! See? Slots and tablesare not the only trick in Vegas. Never mind I showed up on the wrong day at the wrong time for the flight, I man-aged to 'beat the man" at the airport pricing game. Can't get much better than this, not even by Vegas standardsin my estimation. Or can it?

Conference host Bill Walsh (America's Business Expert) had already given his final presentation and was onhis way, most likely, to another Rainmaker event. It was now time for the wrap up--- the one-hour close.

Enter James Dentley. James Dentley, the big guy, the gentle giant. I had seen James at a few other Powerteamevents. I had even chatted with him earlier in the day. He seemed nice enough--- upbeat, positive. So when hetook to the podium I was expecting a "nice" little wrap up, a sort of "nice" thank-you-for-coming accompanied bya "nice," warm, fuzzy embrace and possibly an invitation to a future event.

Well, I was in for a huge surprise. Man oh man oh man. His first order of business after he introduced him-self was to invite everyone to draw closer to the front of the room. Many of the conference attendees had alreadyleft, probably to return to work or catch flights back home or for any number of reasons. Those who remained hadNO idea what was in store for us.

Mr. Dentley gave us a little personal background (you know. . . the kind of info that goes in the "About Us"section of a website. . .) and shared why he loves what he does. He then proceeded to get into some storytelling.Quote after quote, parable after parable, life example after life example, some personal and others that hit close tohome, he took us on an emotionally charged journey. Although it was partially his journey it could have been anyof ours. He schooled us, challenged us, openedwounds, then sutured us back together again. Let me tell you, I keptmy head down and my eyes fixed so that no one could see how moist they were. Next, I heard sniffles. At first,there were a few here and there, then suddenly, everyone, men, women, young people,ALLprofessionals were giv-ing way to their emotions. DARN you, James Dentley.

You see, Mr. James Dentley, that DARN James Dentley, somehow with just the right combination of experi-ence and pathos forced us to go within, DEEEEP within ourselves and confront our "stuff." Why do we do whatwe do? He took us to a place that is not for the faint of heart---- the core. What inspires us? What is blocking us?Why are wemoving or not moving forward? I tell you, right then and there I had to admit that in spite of outwardappearances, I was a broken woman. Broken, I tell you, BROKEN! That was not the first encounter with myself butwhat made this time different and even more poignant was because it was so unexpected. Who expects to go to abusiness meeting and walk away with their soul shaken and stirred? After the session, just about everyone wasstripped. We were left bare. Power suit: stripped. Briefcase: stripped. Game face: stripped. Yet, we suddenly be-came open: open to feel, open to connect. I dare say that all who left there that evening left changed, first, by thesolid business insights presented during the conference and undoubtedly by the powerfully moving close deliv-ered by James Dentley. Yes, the one who made me reexamine every thought, fear, reason and excuse I had re-garding my business and my purpose.

Friends, should you ever have the opportunity, get yourself to a Powerteam event, avail yourself of the pro-grams that are being offered and do yourself a favor, a HUGE favor. Stay for the close. I can assure you, you willbe in.for.a.treat. I promise you, youwill benefit greatly from the wisdom and knowledge of James Dentley, yes, thatDARN James Dentley.

African-American women-owned accounting firms in the country, with offices in Chicago and Bol-ingbrook, Illinois. She founded the firm in 1996 with a fellowDeloitte and Touche’, LLP staff, AlyssiaBenford.

She has devoted a substantial portion of her career to providing audit, accounting, consulting,and tax services to state and local governments as well as not for profit organizations. As a result,Kimi has acquired several advanced skills such as not-for-profit financial audits, single audits, gov-ernment compliance audits, accounting software implementation, forensic audits, and not-for-profitaccounting.

Kimi is a licensed CPA in the State of Illinois. She is also an active member in the AmericanInstitute of Certified Public Accountants, the Illinois CPASociety, and the National Association of BlackAccountants–Division of Firms. She is a three-time nominee of the Volunteer of the Year award of the Illinois CPASociety and cur-rently serves as the president of the Southeast Chicago Chamber of Commerce, President of the Windy City Chapterof Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated, and Social Chairman of the Lake Shore Chapter of the Links, Incorporated.She has also served as a previous boardmember of the Imani Pearls Community Development Foundation and Bing-ham Human Services.

Kimi obtained her Bachelors of Science Degree in Accountancy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Cham-paign where she excelled in accounting and was the president of the Minority Commerce Association.

Over the past decade, the most rewarding philanthropic endeavor has been the Southeast Chicago Chamber ofCommerce. Since joining the Chapter, she hit the ground running. She was appointed to the troubled board of di-rectors. She was soon voted secretary of the board. Her meticulous notes brought a level of professionalism to the po-sition. When the president at that time became ill and was unable to complete his tenure, Kimi stepped in andassumed the position of president. Under her tenure, membership has multiplied into the hundreds and it continuesto grow. Her leadership also helped to develop multiple Special Service Areas in the community; her specific focus aSpecial Service Area #50 to ensure that taxes are spent according to the wishes of the Commission.

Kimi is most proud of her wonderful family. She has been married to her husband, Cornelius Ellen for fifteenyears and her son, Bryce, and daughter, Peyton are her world. She knows that she could not have accomplished allthat she has without the support of her wonderful husband.

Nathan Kirkwood III was raised on Chicago’s Southside by his father, Nathan Kirkwood Jr. and motherAntoinetteA. Kirkwood. His father is accountant and business owner of Nathan KirkwoodAssociates/Taxesby Kirkwood. His mother is a retired educator/administrator of CPS Schools.

Nathan Kirkwood III graduated from high school from Chicago’s KenwoodAcademy. From there hewent on to graduate from Roosevelt University with a BA Degree in Accounting before attaining a Mas-ters Degree in Accounting from Keller Graduate School of Management.

Nathan Kirkwood III has been a staff accountant and tax preparer for his father’s firm for twenty-twoyears. He has serviced more than seven hundred clients annually including individuals, partnerships, cor-porations and non for profit organizations. Kirkwood feels the key to his success has been a goodname, dedication to service, empathy, compassion, fairness with his clients, and a commitmentto finding the answers to client needs that go beyond the scope of mere preparation. Nathan Kirkwood Jr.’s business life can be simply stated. He is the sum total of his experiences. Begin-ning at nine years of age he sold Jet magazines and Chicago Defender newspapers from 6:30 – 8:30 am, be-fore school. This work experience taught him, at a young age, the importance of getting up early for a job,selling a product and understanding how Black people appreciated him being of service to them.

Later at twelve years of age, he organized his five brothers to sell Jet magazines during the year, andsnow cones in front of the A&P and National Food stores on 37th , 39th and 43rd Street during the sum-mer months. This taught him family teamwork, and howworking as a family could satisfy their daily needsand supply products of substance to the community.

These early experiences of getting an early start on a job, learning how income is produced,working with others, and being of service within the Black community were to be the foundationhe was to carry to every job thereafter.

In college, while working at the U.S. Postal Service, he learned teamwork, chain of command, and interpersonal rela-tionships. This gave him the confidence to embrace more challenging jobs as a regulatory examiner of financial institutionsfor the State of Illinois, and economic development officer for the City of Chicago. He also sold investment products throughWaddell & Reed, and insurance products through Prudential Insurance Co.

This concentrated involvement in the fields of economic development, finance, insurance and sales would prove to beinvaluable as a banker, and resulted in his elevation to the position as Vice President of Economic Development at GatewayNational Bank at 79th and Stony Island in Chicago. From Gateway and staying in the Black community, he continued as aBanker at Pullman and later Highland Community Bank.

It was at Highland Bank that his dreams of utilizing all of his past experience came together, and the business firm ofNathan Kirkwood Associates and Taxes by Kirkwood was founded.

He knew that he wanted to be in the community that had supported him as a child of the Black Community. He knewhe wanted to have his business in the community that as a banker he serviced through the financing of its homes, cars, andprovided its children with college finances. He knew his business had to be where he shopped, lived and worshipped hisGod. He knew his business had to be easily accessible by foot or by car, ie, the Black community on 79th Street.He knew the community would identify with him. He knew the business would be one that he wanted to be passed on tofamily and friends. Thus, by doing so, the business would last long after his days were gone.

To accomplish this, he knew he would have to do two important things: advertise and provide year round personal andfriendly service. It was there that he has been able to brand the name Kirkwood over the Southside of Chicago.

Nathan Kirkwood Associates and Taxes by Kirkwood for thirty-eight years have provided accounting, income taxpreparation, financial and estate planning advice and consultation. It is a family owned business being passed on to NathanKirkwood III, MBAand presently the #1 producer. He is ably assisted by his office daughter and office manager Litha Her-ron. She has been with the firm for thirty years.

In addition to Nathan III and Lithia, there are four hand- picked and highly trained professionals: Loretha Shortbey,Attorney James Hooks, CPAWilliam Hayes II, and Julian Valentine, who carry on the philosophy of Nathan Kirk-wood, and who provide expert service to the Black Community.

David L. Thomas MBA, LUTCFGrowing upwithin the inner city was not easy for David. His parents have beenmarried for thirty-

seven years. They taught him core values: integrity, compassion, work ethics, a good education andpersistency. David attended St. Margaret of Scotland where the principles he learned at home werereinforced.

From there he went to Leo High School another Catholic school on the Southside of Chicago.There he began to excel because of the foundation that was put in place at an early age. His passionfor sports made him a tri-athlete and a captain in three sports. His track and basketball team won theIHSAchampionship in his senior year. David was also president of the student body and class vale-dictorian while working to pay for his education.

While there he did an internship with the North-western Mutual Financial Network, and was featured in the USA Today for the amount of success that he had as acollege intern doing Financial Planning. It was then that he realized his passion for financial planning.

Her Chicago-based consulting firm also provides community outreach services for util-ity rebate programs in the Chicagoland area. In 2011, Shelton Solutions was one of eight firms selected by theState of Illinois to be an Application Assistance Provider. In this role, Ms Shelton assists public sector entitieswith Energy Efficiency Portfolio Standards (EEPS) projects. The success of that experience led the State to con-tinue funding Shelton Solutions to provide application assistance to the public sector. Shelton Solutions is alsoa Smart Energy DesignAssistance Expert commissioned by the State of Illinois to provide energy managementtechnical services on the State's behalf.

She is a Certified Energy Manager, a Chartered Industrial Gas Consultant as designated by the AmericanGas Association and a past co-chair for the Chicago Solar Partnership. In addition, Ms Shelton is President ofthe Chicagoland Chapter of the Association of Professional Energy Consultants. She also co-wrote an earlyversion of the Energy Plan for the City of Chicago.

At the 2012 Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) Trade Ally Rally for theNorthern Region, Shelton Solutions received the award for achieving the 3rd Highest Energy Savings for theIllinois Energy Now Energy Efficiency Incentive Program.

Kelly Shelton holds a Master of Engineering Management from Northwestern University in Evanston, ILand a Bachelor of Science, Industrial Engineering from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL.
