Overview
The BlackBerry client for the Alien DVR needs
to be installed via a PC using BlackBerry
Desktop Manager.
The screen shots in this document have been
produced using BlackBerry Desktop Manager
version 4.7 and a BlackBerry 8820.
Installing the BlackBerry Client via BlackBerry Desktop Manager
Launch the BlackBerry
Desktop Manager and
connect the device, then
select the Application
Launcer

When connected, click
on the Start button
beneath Add/Remove
Applications
Wait while the DesktopManager interrogates
your device
The next window
displays applications
available for
adding/removing from
your device.
You need to Add the
Alien Client to this
application list, so clickon Browse, then
navigate to the foldercontaining the
BlackBerry client thenselect
AlienDVRInstaller.alx

Wait for the device to be
scanned again
The dialog window
returns with the
AlienDVRInstaller listed
with an Action of
Install, click on Next
to perform this task.
A summary dialog
appears next, click on
Finish to perform the
installation
The installer starts and
then displays a progressdialog

After installing the
application, the Desktop
Manager displays a
Update complete
dialog
The device can now be disconnected from the PC and the client manually configured with the DVR
details to which you wish to connect.

Configuring the Al ien DVR Client
To configure the Alien Client as follows
Launch the Alien DVR application from the
desktop icon & select English Language
Press the Menu button then select BrowseDevice
The Device List appears but is initially blank

Press the Menu button and select Add
Enter a descriptive name for the DVR you are
connecting to
Enter a static IP address or a DNS name.
If connecting to a device over the internet this
should be a valid public address or your own
DNS name registered with a DNS provider.
To connect to a DNS name, you must ensurethat your internet service has DNS resolution.
You may connect via WiFi to a local internaldevice or one via the internet.

Enter the device port used by the DVR. By
default, this is 8000 but may have been
changed.
Enter the username with which you are gouing
to connect to the DVR. By default this is
admin beginning with a lower case a.
Note: Admin with a uppercase A is wrong.
Enter the password for the selected username
The default admin password is 12345
Passwords are numeric only.

Select how you wish to connect
Internet connections can be via a 2G / 3G
Press the menu button and Save the settings

Connecting to the Al ien DVR and Viewing a Camera Channel
Having installed the client and defined a DVR within the client you can connect as follows
Highlight and select the required DVR from
the list
You will receive a warning that the applicationis attempting low-level network access and
essentially that cost may be incurred tocontinue.
Select Yes grants permission to continue.
The device channel listing appears.
Stroke the centre-nipple button right / left to
scroll the display and select additionalchannels.

Select the required Channel to view and the
picture should appear after a few seconds.
The flashing blue arrows in the top right hand
corner indicate that data transfer is taking
place.
Stopping Image Preview
To stop the data transfer from the DVR andreturn to the Channel selector list, press the
Menu button and select Stop Preview

Enlarging the Viewed Picture
The preview image can be zoomed slightly
using the Zoom in option.

Controlling a PTZ
Press the menu button and select Start PTZ
then gently stroke the centre nipple-button to
move the PTZ.
Be aware that hardware limitations within the
BlackBerry device limit the devices
performance and PTZ control may be slow to
respond.
Select Stop PTZ from the menu to release
PTZ control.
