Principal’s Report
Dear Parents,
P & C MEETING
Tuesday 9th August
2016
INTERVIEWS Thank you to parents and staff for last week’s three way interviews. We hope that the interview along with the first semester report for your child gives you a clear outline on how your child is progressing. Once you have shown your child’s report to your family, please return it to your child’s teacher who will store it until the end of the year when they will include the end of year report.
WALKATHON On Monday 27
th June, the P & C held their annual walkathon to raise money for
school resources. It is now time to return all pink walkathon sponsor cards. The class that returns the most walkathon cards after the walkathon will win a free sausage sizzle during Education Week next term.
YEAR 5 TASTER LESSONS On Tuesday, the Year 5 students walked across to Evans High School for their ‘Taster Lessons’. The students participated in three high school lessons to give them a feel for high school life.
EDUCATION WEEK/ Athletics Carnival Week three of next term is Education Week and during that week our school will be holding its Open Day as well as the annual Athletics Carnival for Years 3 to 6. The 3 to 6 Athletics Carnival will be held on Tuesday 2
nd August at the Blacktown
Sportspark. Permission notes have gone home with students. The cost is $10.00 per student which covers the cost of the bus and entry into the venue. Trials are currently being held at school for the finals of the high jump, long jump, discus and shot put. The finals of these events will be held at the Athletics Carnival along with running races, relays and novelty events. Open Day at Blacktown West will be held on Wednesday 3
rd August. There will be
‘Open Classrooms’, the Library and Computer Room will be open and a sausage sizzle will be held at lunchtime. All parents and Grandparents are most welcome to come along and see the wonderful things the children are doing at our school.
WESTPOINT EDUCATION WEEK PERFORMANCE On Thursday 4
th August, the Junior Choir and Glee will be performing at Westpoint.
Times will be confirmed closer to the date; however, all family and friends are welcome to come along and support our singers.
DEBATING Last week our debaters held their next round at BWPS against Rooty Hill PS. The topic was ‘Animals are better than Plants’. Our team put forward a comprehensive case convincing the audience that indeed Plants were better! The adjudicator scored in favour of our team. Congratulations and well done to all members who worked extremely hard to develop their case.
STAGE THREE CAMP Students who have been making payments towards camp received a letter last week explaining the need for snow/waterproof gloves. The rest of the snow gear, parka, pants and boots are supplied as part of the cost of the excursion. It is vital that the gloves are snow/waterproof as we spend the second day in the snow so the students enjoy their time there. Wednesday 10
th August is the final date when the
full payment of $330.00 is required.
MUFTI – PYJAMA DAY Today, the Year 6 fundraising team are held a ‘Pyjama Mufti Day’. Teachers and students came rugged up for a cold winter’s day in their pyjamas and onsies. It was noticed that ‘nanny nighties’ were the order of the day for many teachers! Year 6 staff and students thank all the students for supporting their fund raising efforts. The school raised $380.00 with your generosity!
SCHOOL UNIFORM The school is trying hard to promote our new uniform and lift the standard of our uniform both at school and when we attend excursions. We ask parents if they could us assist us by ensuring that their children wear their uniform. Now that the weather is cold we ask if you could ensure that the jackets and jumpers they wear (if they do not have the school jacket with our emblem) are plain black with no other logos. Thank you for helping us promote our new look.
EARLY STAGE ONE & STAGE ONE HOLIDAY WRITING Kindergarten along with all Year 1 & 2 classes have been given an extra exercise book to take home over the two week holiday. The teachers are encouraging each student to take time each day to write about their holiday or the exciting experiences they are having during the two weeks away from school. The aim is to keep up the writing skills that the teachers are developing with the students in class. The students should bring their books back next term where the teachers can read about their holiday and conference with the children about their writing skills.
LAST DAY of TERM TWO The last day of this term is Friday 1
st July. All students will return for the commencement of Term 3 on Tuesday 19
th July
2016. Have a great break and congratulations to the students for all their hard work throughout Term 2!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Remember to collect your 10 awards – they can be
stamped for a special award. Don’t forget to keep all
awards with the school tree in a safe place.
