Sunday: 9:30 a.m.
BAPTISMS
Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole
Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit,
and the door which gives access to the other
sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed
from sin and reborn as sons of God; we
become members of Christ, are incorporated
into the Church and made sharers in her
mission: Since Baptism is not a private celebration,
but an incorporation in the large community
of the Church, Baptisms are ordinarily
celebrated on the fourth Sunday
of each Month after the 9:30 a.m. and
11:00 a.m. Masses.
WEDDINGS
Couples intending Marriage should call
the Rectory at least six months in
advance of the planned date.
RCIA
Please call the Rectory if you know of
someone who is interested in learning
about the Catholic Faith.

CATHOLIC
CHURCHES
Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time
This week, Catholic students across the country will celebrate National Catholic Schools Week. Started
in 1974, Catholic Schools Week is a weeklong celebration of Catholic education. Nearly 1.9 million students are currently educated in 6,429 Catholic schools in cities, suburbs, small towns and rural communities around the country. Students receive an education that prepares them for higher education, a competitive work environment, and most importantly, living a Christian life of virtue in a challenging society.
Speaking for myself, I would not be a priest without the experience I had at the former All Saints School in downtown Steubenville and Catholic Central High School. During those years, I had continuous exposure to the truth of the Catholic faith in religion classes as well as encounters with God through Masses, prayer, and retreats. But the gift of Catholic education didn’t stop there. When I moved on to college, I was so thankful for what I had experienced in high school. I was already comfortable doing research, writing papers, and participating in class. In other words, I was well prepared for that next step in my life.
Now, I am privileged to serve as the chaplain at Catholic Central where I get to see that work in action in today’s high school students and also get to work to provide an encounter with God that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. Every day I spend with the young people at CCHS encourages me. God is working among our youth if we have the eyes to see it.
Please keep all of our local Catholic schools in your prayers - as well as all Catholic students wherever they are learning. They have a mission from God just as surely as any adult and need our prayers and help to say yes to God’s will. – Fr. Michael

JANUARY (Religious minorities in Asia)
That Christians, and other minorities in Asian countries, may be able to practice their faith in full freedom.
“A prophet like me will the Lord, your God, raise up for you.”
(pertaining to today’s First Reading: Deuteronomy 18:15-20)
Some things you can just learn from a YouTube video. Like how to be a better spouse or a friend. How to really listen when other people talk. How to surrender your will in favor of doing the will of God. These are things that take practice, active engagement, and not a little mentoring from people who are masters at the task. Of all the forms of mentoring out there, spiritual teachers are some of the most vital we encounter.
Moses was the greatest teacher of the Old Testament. We think of him primarily as a lawgiver. But Moses didn’t just lay down the law, he also interpreted it, lived by it, and led the people in the way of right living. For forty years, the community followed him, not always faithfully, and often begrudgingly. Without Moses, however, that group of squabbling ingrates didn’t have a prayer of surviving as a people.
Moses, of course, couldn’t live forever. So he promised that God would supply another prophet for the people’s instruction. God’s people are never orpahns of the truth.
Compose a list of three life lessons that have shaped you. From whom did you learn these things? (Alice Camille)
