Month of the Precious Blood

Dear friends in the Lord:

In Kenya, most of the population is under 25 years old. The family always serves as the domestic Church — but

with so many young people, families in Kenya have a special responsibility to encourage the spiritual development

of their children. With your support for the Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa, Catholic families in Kenya and

throughout Africa can do just that. Thanks to your generosity, the Church in Kenya has trained new ministers to

help families build communities of love and foster a culture of life.

These new ministers help families build stronger relationships with one another and with God. Families are

deepening their faith and learning practical skills like active listening and conflict management. As the family

becomes stronger, so too does the Church.

Support the Solidarity Fund this weekend, August 10/11. The Church needs strong families to be witnesses to

the joy of love. The Church in Africa needs your help to ensure that all the faithful have the resources to help

them grow in our faith. To learn more visit www.usccb.org/africa.

With this letter, I invite you to be as generous as you possibly can be in making a sacrificial offering to this crucially

important and necessary ministry of the Church.

With gratitude and prayerful best wishes, I am,

Faithfully in Christ,

+Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan

UNCLE AL’S THRIFT SHOP

May we have your attention please? Two months from today, October 11, an important event will begin at

St. Joseph’s. Our parish’s second annual 3-day COAT SALE will open that Friday. The sale is organized by Uncle Al’s

Thrift Shop volunteers, but it is a parish event. That means everyone will have the opportunity to be a part of this

exciting sale. If you think last year’s sale was great, wait until you experience this one! Of course the main feature

will be winter coats and jackets, but there will also be related items such as sweaters, gloves and hats. There

might even be some cozy stuff for your home like quilts and comforters.

Are you wondering how this is a parish sale? Well, a big event like this takes many people. First of all, donations of

coats, etc., are needed. How about that coat that has hung in your closet for the past two years without being

worn? Have winter scarves galore? Have your kids outgrown their winter gear? Donations can be left at Uncle Al’s

during shop hours (Mon., Wed., Fri., Sat. from 10:00am to 4:00pm).

Wait a minute, we’re not done — volunteers (that’s men and women) are needed to assist in all aspects of this

sale. That means setting up for the sale on Wednesday, Oct. 9, participating as sales staff on Oct. 11, 12, 13 and

helping with breakdown and packaging items for storage on Mon., Oct 14. Signing up is easy! Contact Edye

MacDonald at 677-9393 or cell: 914-474-0717 or Irene Wing at 677-3310. It’s as easy as that!

All proceeds benefit St. Joseph-Immaculate Conception Church.

Church and Parish Hall Handicapped Access Ramps

Now that the ramp on the Parish Hall is finished, the wrought iron railings can be measured properly and

fabricated. Demolition of the old ramp on the side of the Church is complete and construction of the

new foundation has begun. Temporary railings will be in place until the wrought iron ones are installed.

We thank you for your patience during the construction process.
