Moon GardenBLOCK #1

Moon GardenBLOCK size:I am uncertain as of yet how I am going to “set” these blocks. Cut the background 18”x 18” for now…if yours is 17¾” wide for some reason do not worry…they will be trimmed down smaller…we have lots of room to go down as far as 14½”…I am thinking I would like more space around the blocks but again will be making this decision at a later date. Keep the extra fabric as we may use this too.

FaBriCs & WOOLs Needed: VaLdaNi Threads used:FQ black print/black muslin13” x 13” Tan wool - basket #8- O1964” x 26” Cream Houndstooth wool - flowers #12- P33½” x 7” Yellow Textured wool - middle of flowers #12- M284 different - 3½” x 4½” Sage Textured wools - leaves #8-O548 & O5751½” x 5” Spring wool - stems

direCTiONs:Trim and tape your block layout sheets together at the dashed lines.

Trace the appropriate number of applique shapes onto fusible web using the reversed shape page.

Cut a 1½” x 5” piece of fusible web and iron to the 1½” x 5” Spring wool. Sub cut into 4 - 3/16” stems- (this is bigger than the 1/8” but less than ¼”) Our 5” x 15” Creative Grid ruler had a 3/16” line on them specifically for cutting wool stems.

Using a light box or some sort of light source, lay paper pattern on top, and remove paper off the back of the fusible web if using SAS2 light. Start with the basket, add the stems and leaves and then flowers.

Iron with lots of steam using an up and down motion, quick presses - do not leave the iron on the wool for long periods of time.

sTiTChiNg:Cross-stitch over the stems.

Blanket stitch the following: Basket - #8-O196 Flowers - #12-P3 in the indents of each flower, make a long blanket stitch to the wool circle. Leaves - #8-O575 and O548

FLOwer CenTerS -Draw a 5/8” circle in the center of the wool circle with the white clover marking pen. Blanket stitch to the circle using a double strand of #12-M23.

Fill the center with colonial knots, using a double strand and wrapping 3 times.

Press block upside down on wool pressing mat or thick towel using lots of steam.
