Camp Driver Jun 2004 to Sept 2005
I worked at Block and Hexter Vacation Center in the USA throughout the summer of 2004 after getting the job through the Camp America agency. I was employed there as one of the main drivers.
Block and Hexter was firstly an elderly person’s camp. As a driver this meant that I had to transport the guests throughout my day on shopping trips, hospital runs and picking them and dropping them off in New York
City. As the driver I also had to do camp shopping, make sure cars were serviced and cleaned. The hours were long with the average day lasting about 10-14 hours which doesn’t include night callouts which I had to do twice.
Throughout the summer overall I drove over 11,000 miles but being at camp I had to help out on other duties. I helped serving lunches in the kitchen, was a tour guide in the museums on the day trips, helped do lighting and
designed props for staff show.
While not driving I worked in the offices mainly answering phone, designing leaflets for guests and also
fixing the computers. Due to me fixing computers in the office I was asked to help fix networking problems with the guest computers in the computer lab (which I fixed). I also assisted the lifeguard at the swimming pool and
the lake.
Key Achievements:
Driving large distances around Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Manhattan
