The Demon Headmaster by Gillian CrossLearning to compare characters, descriptions and inference in different novels by reading or watching a dramatisation. Here’s the plan, Primary 6:On Thursday 14th May at 11am we all log into iPlayer and watch the first episode of The Demon Headmaster using this link:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0009f6l/the-demon-headmaster-series-1-1-everystudentastar

While you are watching, you are looking for similarities and differences between characters in The Demon Headmaster and Harry Potter. Look at

the Headmaster, a main character (Lizzie or Tyler and Harry) a supporting character (a bully or a friend – or both!)

Think about: how menace, fear or tension is built up by JK Rowling in the book and by the

filmmakers in the TV programme. Which do you find more effective? the comparison between a magical school and one which appears more like

real-life. What are the clues in the Demon Headmaster that warn you that it’s not quite like Troon Primary?

what do you think of the families in the two books? Think about Lizzie and Tyler – how are they vulnerable? Harry’s family? Ron’s? Malfoy’s?

do you prefer reading or watching? Why? What arguments can you come up with for the OPPOSITE view to the way you feel?

Straight after we’ve all watched The Demon Headmaster episode, so at around 11:30am on Thursday, head to our Team to discuss what

you noticed and how you feel.If you can’t do this on Thursday, that’s ok – try to watch the programme at another time and either email us or post on Teams what you thought.

Have a look at the discussion points and see what evidence you can find from Harry Potter. You could write down any quotes (with page references!) in your jotter, or put them in a Word document so you can Copy and Paste them into the Teams discussion when we start!

We are learning to recognise geographical features and relate them to real life.

Label the drawing with the correct terms. If you’re not sure about any of them, use a dictionary or Google to find out what they mean and see if that helps. If you can’t print, that’s fine – put the answers in your jotter, numbers 1-5 are at the top, left to right, and numbers 6 – 11 at the bottom, going from left to right.Extension 1: If you’re walking on the beach, notice which features of the coast you can see.Extension 2: Find out about dunes – what are they, why are they there, what is going wrong with them and how are people trying to fix the damage?Extension 3: Find out about Ailsa Craig.
