This book has information on the appearance of vampires in modern literature and illustrating how the vampires have changed from the traditional Dracula to what many know today. It shows a trend on how literature has changed and is of great use to see the movement to a more modern vampire.

“Abstinence Vs. Indulgence” an article written by Elizabeth Nelson as the title suggests, focuses on the idea of how the new-age “ethical” vampires reflect the monstrous appetite within us. In her article she tries to explain the rising fame of vampires and trying to giver her explanation for the rise in fame of these ethical vampires. Her take on this is that the desires deep within us that are hidden most of the times can be responsible for the attention these new age vampire gets. This article helps in answering the possible reasons why these new vampires are very craved for.

It describes how vampires have changed from fierce, fearful male beings to romantic and gentlemanly vampires. Such trend would help to clearly make a timline map of the modifications of vampires from then to now.

The book mainly argues that the success of the Twilight series is attributed primarily to Meyer’s negotiation of cultural mores appealing to a large amount of audience. Such argument can be one of the reasons vampires these “post” vampires have gained so much popularity.

This book helps discover the appeals of the “new-age” vampires and the struggles of reality that allows stronger connections with audience.

It discusses the evil that is present in the plot of twilight and explains it in terms of good, bad, and ugly. It concludes that is it is a family romance story. This helps uncover different view of twilight based on the categorization of the characters by humanizing and making them more realistic.

It argues that vampires are more than just blood sucking species; there are even female vampires. It relates it to the culture and social climate of the modern day that influence such change. This provides a possible reason for the modernization of vampires.

The writer of this article proposes six reasons as to why the vampires have gained so much popularity. Some of his points are vampires are more interesting than those who try to practice it, and they always “come back.” The obsession of today’s society is large enough to not be ignored. According to the author, vampires in a sense reflect modern day issues or present a corrected version that appeals to the viewers.

This article gives an introduction to the presence of vampires and their roles in films in the 20th century. It gives a good and brief knowledge of the vampires in the earlier days; “classical” vampires. It helps form a good base in going into research for this assignment.
