KINDNESS IDEAS Celebrate an annual SAY SOMETHING NICE DAY! During the DAY, notice something you like about a person and tell them. Declare a day in each classroom. Each participant promises to approach one person that day and finish the

sentence: “One of the things I like about you is _________________.” Students share their experiences in the classroom at the end of the day.

Compliment the first three people you talk to.

Write a hand-written note to a teacher. Say good morning to the person next to you on the elevator. Pick up litter. Spend 10 minutes cleaning a park or your neighborhood. Place uplifting notes in library books, on restroom mirrors, on someone's locker, or on their computer screen. Dedicate 24 hours to spreading positivity on social media.\ Hold up inspiring signs during rush hour. Leave a generous tip. Send flowers to a friend. Set an alarm to go off three times on World Kindness Day. When the alarm sounds, stop what you're doing a

call/text/email someone simply to tell them how great they are. Write kind messages to parents on the sidewalk with chalk Create a “Love” wall. Have the word “Love” on a wall and hearts on the side for students to write what they love

about the school. Create a “Thank you” chain for cafeteria staff Wall of Appreciation: Counselor hangs wide paper on wall. Students write about what they appreciate on the

paper. Each student is encouraged to complete as many items from the Kindness Checklist. For every 3 items,

teachers will give the student a Raffle ticket.

Prizes: 1st place- Any item from school store2nd place- Homework pass3rd place- 1st in line pass

Wreath Tie: With each random act of kindness that students do, they tie a ribbon to a wreath frame and throughout the year they will be able to see how much kindness was shown school wide. You can get a wire wreath and ribbon at AC Moore . Use a 3M Command Hook to hang the “RAK Wreath”. Cut strips of ribbon and put them in a plastic bag on the door. Each time a student completes a random act of kindness, they tie a ribbon on the wreath.

Mason Jar activity: Materials: a Mason jar or another container (one per classroom and one for the staff), kind acts written out on strips of paper (enough so that everyone gets an activity) Directions: 1. Print kind acts onto strips of paper: For example: sit by someone who is sitting alone at lunch, help tutor someone who needs extra help, pick up trash in the hallway, say something kind to someone you do not know, write a thank you note to a teacher, make a new friend today, etc. Additional grade level kind acts can be found at: randomactsofkindness.org/ kindness-project-ideas 2. Put strips into a Mason jar. 3. Each person pulls one strip out and is encouraged to do that kind act sometime during RAK Week. 4. Using the Five W’s (Who, What, Where, Why, When, and How) have students write in their RAK journal or share aloud their kind activity experience.

KINDNESS PLEDGEI pledge to myself on this day,

To try and be kind in every way.

I pledge to be kind even when no one else is around,

Because that is where true character can be found.

I pledge to use my words to speak in a kind way.

I pledge to help others as I go through the day.

I pledge to join together as we unite the big and small.

I pledge to do my part to create peace for one and all.

Kindness WeekDear Pemberton Penguin Families,

I am excited to announce our second annual Kindness Week (January 25-29). The week will be filled with ways for our students to learn, explore, and practice kindness. Studies have indicated that promoting kindness in youth promotes self-confidence, optimism, leadership, and increased happiness. This coming week, students will be part of many excited experiences. Some of them are outlined below.
