In 2009, Pick A Pocket began investing in the lives of a group of beautiful young women in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Through education, support and mentorship, we seek to see them overcome circumstances and become people of influence in their community. As young women, they continually live in the

tension between building a future and the pull of immediate needs – each of them desire to support themselves as well as help their families. It’s become evident that the logical next step in our friendship is championing this dream, and so together we’re launching a new initiative called Bloom.

We envision that in the next two years, Bloom will be the name ofa simple and beautiful not-for-profit Guest house in Addis Ababa. While offering visitors an authentic and economical stay, our hope is that Bloom will create jobs for the girls -- jobs to enable steady incomes, vital work experience and continued education. The girls will continue their education until they are fully independent

The ultimate goal financially for Bloom is that its young women (or "the girls") become

independent and are enabled to earn a sustainable income through the hard work they invest.

However, until the guesthouse is complete and fully operating, the girls’ regular support must

continue for this transition to be successful. The season is still young and we need your help

to see Bloom grow!

monthly: 1075 €At this time, this sum is still necessary to help support

the girls and ensure that they will be able to continue their schooling. We want them to be free to dream big and spend their energy on making the guesthouse exactly what they want it to be.

As the guesthouse begins to find its feet, this number will steadily decrease until the girls reach their goal of self-sustainability. Although we’re incredibly grateful for one-time gifts towards this cost, we’d ultimately love to connect a regular monthly sponsor with each of the individual girls.

stArt-up cost: 4000 €To be a sustainable guesthouse, Bloom will also

have to be a quality one with comfortable spaces and a welcoming atmosphere. In order for this to happen, renovations need to be made and furniture purchased.
