  • BLOOMING LOTUS SANGHA AWAKENING OUR HEARTS - HEALING OUR SELVES MINDFULNESS RETREAT

    JUNE 18-20, 2019 JUNEAU, ALASKA

Join us to manifest healing, nourishment, and peace together as a spiritual family.

Come learn how to practice Mindfulness in a friendly & welcoming atmosphere.

Relax, enjoy nature, listen to lectures, make new friends, heal and nourish your practice.

The historical Buddha said that to be health and experience healing we must look deeply into the causes and conditions that are conducive increase health and maximize deep healing.  He taught that we should find the “seeds” of health and healing in ourselves and in others.  And when we find those seeds we should water and nurture them to produce the beautiful flower of health, happiness, and joy.

During this retreat we will look deeply into the causes and conditions that produce health and healing and that are conducive to the development of happiness and joy.  We will learn the principles and practices that transform our consciousness toward deep healing and increased health.  Taking good care of ourselves we take good care of our family, of our society.  So with

those same principles and practices, we can begin to shine the light that brings transformation and healing to our community and the world

Given the current challenges we face as a society, we know how important it is to stay solid and connected to each other. As we train ourselves to be more deeply in touch with our breath, body, feelings, and thoughts, we will quite naturally experience for ourselves the wonderful refreshing and healing elements that come from mindful living.

    ABOUT THE TEACHERS & INSTRUCTORS:

Sister Chân Đẳng Nghiêm (Sr. Non Discrimination, A.K.A. Sr. D)

Sister Đẳng Nghiêm came to the United States as a teenager. She received her M.D. at the UCSF School of Medicine before she became a nun in 2000. She is the author of two books: Healing: A Woman’s Journey from Doctor to Nun (2010) and Mindfulness as Medicine: A Story of Healing and Spirit (2015).

A practicing doctor at UCSF Medical Center before she became a Buddhist nun in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh, she is a motivational speaker, and an inspiration for anyone who has ever dealt with severe illness or chronic pain. In 2011 she contracted neuro-Lyme disease, which affected both her physical

and cognitive functioning. With mindfulness practices, she had what doctor’s termed a “miraculous” recovery.

Sister Đẳng Nghiêm is also sought out by people looking for guidance on how to heal from experiences of sexual, emotional and physical abuse and how to find strength in the face of many of the pressures society puts on young women. She currently lives in Deer Park Monastery in California.

Sister Chân Trăng Thanh Lương (Sr. Freshness)

Sister Thanh Lương grew up in Saigon, Vietnam and went to school training in the field of technology.  In 2007, she was introduced to the practices of Plum Village when Thay visited Vietnam.  She ordained as a nun in 2009 in Plum Village Thailand.

Sister Freshness enjoys going to the beach to watch the sunrise/sunset and she likes to be in nature with her Brothers and Sisters.  Her favorite practice is total relaxation because during that time, she can relax and be present with her body with nowhere to go and nothing to do. She likes to share with people

her experiences on how to live in mindfulness, happier and more peaceful.

Sister Chân Trăng Hoàng Yên (Sr. Tranquility, A.K.A. Sr. Calm Down)

Sister Chân Trăng Hoàng Yên was born and raised in Portland, Oregon.  In college, she competed as a Division I Track and Field thrower, and majored in Psychology with a focus in General Education and Special Education. This field of study spoke to her deep desire to help empower others and to give them a voice.

In 2014, she was introduced to the practices of Plum Village and had a pivotal experience during a Viet Wake Up Retreat.  This inspired her to explore Sangha further and to make a deeper commitment to her spiritual path.  Sr. Tranquility ordained as a nun in the 5-Year Monastic Program in 2016.  In doing so, she is

following in the footsteps of six generations of monastics in her family. She enjoys leading the Children's Program and helping to make mindfulness practice accessible to young people.  Her favorite way of practicing is through arts and crafts.
