Proper elimination posture

Photo sheknows.com

• The problem with sitting is that it keeps the kink in the lower bowel making it difficult to have an easy evacuation.

• Squatting relaxes the puborectalis muscle more and straightens out the colon, making elimination easier.

The scoop on your stool

• The average stool is 75% water and 25% bacteria, fiber, cells and mucus.

• Healthy stools sink in your toilet.• Flatulence is bacteria breaking down food in the

large intestine.• A perfect stool is called a snake.• Sitting on the toilet too long can cause

hemorrhoids. • Flushing your toilet sprays microscopic air

droplets greater than six feet.• The average adult produces in one year a little

more than the weight of an adult panda (320 pounds).

Drop 5 Tip of the Week

*Daily recommended fiber intake:• Men under 50: 38 grams• Men over 51: 30 grams• Women under 50: 25 grams• Women over 51: 21 grams

Increase your dietary fiber.

* Recommendations come from the Institute of Medicine.

Ideas to increase your fiber intake:

• Include vegetables in meals and eat them first.

• Eat popcorn. It’s a whole grain and air popped

corn has over a gram of fiber per cup!

• Eat fruits that are high in fiber such as pears,

apples and berries.

• Replace refined grains with whole-grains. Some

whole grains include brown rice, oatmeal,

quinoa and barley.

• Add chia, flax or hemp seeds to your smoothies

or other dishes.

Nonscale victories from last week:• I got the best surprise notification on my

fitbit this past week. It said, "For the past 2 consecutive weeks, you've reached the recommended 150 active zone minutes of weekly exercise." Huge NSV for me. I have been very sedentary for most of the past year, so this is such a big thing for me. I saw that I actually blew away the minimum goal for weekly zone minutes. I was (am) so happy and proud of myself.
