A message from the Founder of Blue Skies BlueSkieshasbeeninGhanaformorethanseventeenyears.Weproducefresh-cutfruitsandfreshlysqueezedjuicewhichweexporttoEuropeandsellonthelocalmarket.Wehavehadalotofsuccessbutnoneofthishascomewithoutitschallenges,andtherehavebeen

timeswhenIhavehadtomakepersonalsacrificestokeepthebusinessalive.MakingabusinessworklikeBlueSkiesrequireshardwork,determinationandforesight.

OneworryIhaveisaboutourfuturefarmers.Weareacompanythatneedsfruittomakeourproducts,andyetwehaveaconcernaboutwhereourfruitwillcomefrominthefuture.Notenoughpeoplearegoingintofarming.SowesupporttheSchoolFarmoftheYearandhopeitwillbeapositivesteptowardsbeingabletofindthefutureleadersofGhana’sfoodandagriculturalindustry.

TheSchoolFarmoftheYearcompetitionhasbeenintroducedtoencouragemoreyoungpeopletoconsiderfarmingasacareer.Wewillawardprizestotheschoolthatproducesthebestfarmintermsofhowithasengageditsstudentsinfarmingtopromoteactivelearninganddevelopapositiveattitudeaboutfoodandagriculture,theenvironmentandentrepreneurialism.

How to enter

1. Ifyouwanttotakepartpleasesendinyourentryformbythe27thFebruary20172. Applicationswillbescreenedtoselectqualifiedschools3. Eligibleschoolswillballotforthecropwhichtheywillgrowforthecompetition4. Schoolswillbeinvitedtosendtheirdiaryandsustainabilityplantothejudgesby

theendofMay20175. Judgeswillvisittheschoolfarmsandassessthediariesandsustainabilityplans,

plusprovidesupportwherenecessarythroughoutthedurationofthecompetitiontodecideonthewinners.

6. SchoolswillbeinvitedtoanawardsceremonyaroundNationalFarmersDaywherethewinnerswillbeannounced.

Entry Requirements

• ThecompetitioniscurrentlyopentoalimitednumberofJHSandSHSschoolsinGhana.

What qualified schools will be required to do

• Demarcateanareaoflandofatleast50mx50m• Growtheselectedcrops(asdeterminedbytheballot)• Keepadiaryandphotographstorecordyourprogress• Writeasustainabilityplanwhichincludesinformationon:

o Whatyouwillgrowandwhyo Whowillberesponsibleforlookingafterthefarmo Farmsetupandmanagementcostso Howyouwillkeepthefarmgoingforthenextfiveyearso Howthefarmwillbeself-sufficient;willitgenerateanincometopayforits

maintenanceandifsohowo Howyouwillmaintainthefertilityofthesoilo Howyouwillattractsupportfromthelocalcommunityo Whatyouwilldotoencouragewildlife,andwhythisisimportanttoyourfarm.
