Florida Water StarSM is a voluntary certification program for new and existing residential and commercial developments that encourages water efficiency in household appliances, plumbing fixtures, irrigation systems and landscapes.

Florida Water Star is currently active in SWFWMD, SFWMD and SJRWMD, interest in NWFWMD

How Can Local Government Help?

• Research how your city, county, utility can invest, promote rainwater harvesting.

• Educate staff, elected officials on value of rainwater harvesting.

• Bring local government and interagency departments together to discuss partnerships, legal impediments, and solutions to rainwater harvesting.

• Participate in rainwater harvesting organization workshops, i.e. ARCSA.

• Create interest and promote employee accreditation in rainwater harvesting certification.

• Start with rain barrels with future goals of residential, commercial, and community cisterns.
