Why collect rainwater?

• Allows for smart use of abundant resource

• Conserves groundwater and surface water supplies

• Can reduce volume and impact of flooding

• Can reduce erosion of sediment• Can reduce water quality impact of

nutrients and chemicals• Reduces water consumption from

How Can Local Government Help?

• Research how your city, county, utility can invest, promote rainwater harvesting.

• Educate staff, elected officials on value of rainwater harvesting.

• Bring local government and interagency departments together to discuss partnerships, legal impediments, and solutions to rainwater harvesting.

• Participate in rainwater harvesting organization workshops, i.e. ARCSA.

• Create interest and promote employee accreditation in rainwater harvesting certification.

• Start with rain barrels with future goals of residential, commercial, and community cisterns.
