    History Of Bluetooth:

Bluetooth was invented in 1994 by Ericsson.

The company later started working with a larger groupof companies called the Bluetooth Special InterestsGroup, or "SIG," to develop the technology into what itis today.

Bluetooth is not owned by any one company and isdeveloped and maintained by SIG.

The name Bluetooth came from a code name originally

used by SIG for the project and is a reference to a 10thcentury Danish king named Harold Bluetooth, who wasresponsible for uniting Norway, Sweden, and Denmark.

It comprises of a base band processor, a radio and an antenna . The base-bandprocessor converts the data into signals, the antenna of another blue tooth

device, within at least 30 feet distance, receives a transmitted signal in the air.

    It uses a frequency hopping

    spread spectrum technique

(FHSS) - which is one of twobasic modulation techniques

    used in spread spectrum signal

    transmission. Frequencies are

    switched repeatedly during

    radio transmission to help

reduce unlawful access orother means of

    telecommunications to cross

    paths and cause interruption

    Importance Of Bluetooth:

These have Replaced cables fortransferring Information from oneElectronic Device to another one.

    These have decreased Strain like

carrying phones while talking, making hands free to do anotherwork.

    This is cheaply Available.

Its Mobility is also very Importantas it doesnt need any power outletor Internet connection or any otheritems.

    Disadvantages Of Bluetooth:

Data sent between two Bluetooth devices is veryslow compared with Wi-Fi transfer Rate.

Range Of a Bluetooth Device is 15-30 feet

    depending upon the Device.

Security is Biggest Disadvantage as transfer takesplace through radio waves and a hacker can easilyhack it.

Battery usage is also a problem, it will make deviceout of power before it would have if Bluetooth wasnot powered on.

Success of Bluetooth depends on how well itis integrated into consumer products

-Consumers are more interested in applications than thetechnology-Bluetooth must be successfully integrated into consumer

-- products-Must provide benefits for consumer-Must not destroy current product benefits

Key Success Factors-Interoperability-Mass Production at Low Cost

    -Ease of Use-End User Experience

Allows up to 8 devices to communicate in a localnetwork called a Piconet, also known as aPersonalArea Network or PAN

Because of its low power consumption, its range islimited to 10 m.

However, range can be increased to 100 m by

employing a scatternet topology or a higherpoweredantenna

Three classes of Bluetooth devices-Class 3 radios have a range of up to 1 meter or3

Feet.-Class 2 radios most commonly found in mobiledevices have a range of 10 meters or 30 feet-Class 1 radios used primarily in industrial usecases have a range of 100 meters or 300 feet.

    ReliabilityWhat it really means?

    Which device are youconnecting to?

    How large is the file?

    Which version are you using?

Have the two devices beenconnected before?
