Our mission in Worthington City Schools and Bluffsview Elementary is
to empower a community of learners who will change the world.
Dear Bluffsview Families, November was certainly a busy month at Bluffsview! Parent conferences, our Veterans’ Day assembly, and Turkey Trot provided each of us with an opportunity to be more involved in the Bluffsview community. We truly value your partnership as we work together to provide your children with opportunities to grow both academically and socially. December and January will bring additional events and opportunities for learning. Thank you, in advance, for the dedication of our many volunteers who help make these meaningful events happen! We couldn’t do it without you! With the unpredictable winter weather, please listen to local radio and TV stations for school closings, delays and early dismissals. A phone call will be made through the Worthington Schools automated calling system when closings or delays occur. Please be sure that your information is entered accurately on the Worthington Schools’ website so you will receive this call. It is important to have a plan in place with your child should one of these situations occur. I look forward to the months ahead and the many new joys it will bring to the Bluffsview community. In this time of thanksgiving, I want to extend my deepest appreciation for the many acts of kindness that each of you bring to the Bluffsview community, as well as for the opportunity you give me each day to be a part of your children’s lives. I wish you all a safe and family-filled time over our Winter Break and look forward to seeing you in the New Year.
Sincerely,
Cindy Fox

The Bluffsview Beat: What’s Happening in the Music
Room? ♫♫♫♫♫♫
Congratulations to the Music Makers on a wonderful contribution to our Veterans Day assembly in November. You sang beautifully and worked hard in preparation for the performance. Thank you for your dedication to singing! Up next for Music Makers will be a little holiday caroling, which they will do at school on Tuesday, December 12th. Stop by the front hallway between 11:30-12:00 to hear them if you’re in the building, and we may also be going LIVE on Twitter that day. Stay tuned!
5th graders have been working hard to prepare for their concert in January. Please don’t forget to continue to practice over Winter Break – just because we are not in school, doesn’t mean you can forget all our music! We look forward to presenting two concerts on
Wednesday, January 17th at 1:30 and 7:00 pm.
Concert Dates are set for the year. Don’t miss these great performances:
Wednesday, January 17th – 5th Grade Concert, 1:30 and 7:00 pm. (mentioned above)
Wednesday, March 7th – 3rd Grade Concert, 1:30 and 7:00 pm.
Monday, April 30th – Music Makers Concert, 1:30 and 7:00 pm.
Stay in TUNE with the BEAT of the Bluffsview Music Room! Follow Mrs. Daubney on Twitter! @bluffsviewmusic is your source for quick updates on what is happening in music class. I try to send out one tweet per day with photos or videos of something that we have been learning during the week.

WINTER ARCHERY
TOURNEMENT
Mark your calendars for our winter
tournament on January 20th
at
WKHS. All archers are
encouraged to participate and get
some tournament experience at the
closest archery tournament you can find. Be
on the lookout for registration information
coming out soon! We’ll host another
tournament on April 7th
so mark your
calendars for that one too! If interested in
volunteering and/or sponsoring the
tournament and/or Bluffsview Archery
Club, please contact Ben Wilson or
NancyWharton.
PLEASE BE
CAREFUL…… The speed limit throughout the
residential area of Bluffsview is 25
mph. (20 mph in the school zone even
if the lights are not flashing). Safety
patrols are reporting many people
traveling over the posted speed limit
posing a threat to our student and
adult safety patrols and children
walking to and from school. It is also
necessary to make complete stops at
stop signs, including 3-way stop areas.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Modeling safe practices is the best
way to teach our children the
importance of safety.
We care…..
Attendance and the location of your children are very important to us during the school day. If your child(ren) will be absent from school due to illness, (the student should be fever free, no vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours prior to the return to school) appointments, or trips, please call the attendance number at 450-5110. Should the office staff not be
available to answer the telephone, messages may be left regarding your children’s attendance.
If we have not heard from you by 8:15 a.m., Mrs. Podolan will be calling you to find out why your child(ren) are absent from school.
Our goal is not to be nosy, but to make sure your children are safe and know why they are not at school. It is very important that we have telephone numbers that are current and numbers that you will be answering. We appreciate your willingness to help us keep your children safe!
Winter Weather
Recess Alert! Part of our healthy daily
routine at Bluffsview
includes outdoor recess.
Research shows that
children need fresh air, exercise, and
sunshine. Physical activity is not only
healthy for your child’s body but it
also stimulates brain activity.
We use information from local
weather sources to make a
determination. District policy states
that children will go out when the chill
factor is 20 degrees F or above.
At these temperatures it is essential
that children wear a winter coat, hat,
gloves, boots and scarves. Prior to
leaving in the morning, help your child
check the weather forecast for the
day so that he or she will be properly
dressed. This will ensure a
comfortable recess for all. Fresh air
and exercise keep our students alert.
Your child’s health is an important
part of the educational program.
TURKEY
TROT
NEWS The 11th annual Turkey Trot was a
perfect way to kick off the Thanksgiving
Holiday. The weather was a little chilly for
the day, but it just had everyone walking a
little faster! We would like to thank the
amazing number of volunteers who made
the day a success! On the very first day of
collecting donations we had already
collected over $1766! By Friday, December
1, we have reached $8,620. We are so close
to our goal for this year of $10,000. Two
carts of 15 Chromebooks and a super-fun
trapeze jump for the gym will be purchased
if our goal is met. We will be collecting
envelopes through the first week of
December. Please remember to return
your pledge envelopes! Also, don’t forget
to check with your employer to see if they
match donations. Our top Trotter this year
was Libby Alderman in Mr. McGuire’s class.
Libby trotted 93 laps! Congratulations,
Libby!! The class that raises the most in
donations will be announced Monday,
December 11th and will win extra gym time
with Mr. Wilson. Gift card winners will also
be announced. All the students and staff
displayed incredible enthusiasm and should
be very proud of contributing to making
Bluffview an amazing and healthy school!
Gobble, Gobble,
Gobble!
ARE YOU WONDERING WHERE YOUR
CHILD’S MISSING COATS AND GLOVES
MIGHT BE?? Please check the tables
in the front hallway. Some very nice
coats are looking for their owners! Don’t forget to
put your child’s name on the inside of coats, etc.,
so they can be reunited!!
All gear remaining after December 16, will be
donated to a local charitable organization!
YEAR BOOK COVERS WINNERS!! “Sparking Creativity” was the theme for the
2017-2018 school yearbook. Many entries
were submitted, and after careful
consideration the following students will
have their artwork displayed on the
cover of this spring’s yearbook: Front Cover: Micah Wilson
K: Shiven Namala, 1st: Zoe Lovegrove, 2nd: Molly O’Leary, 3rd: Logan Schlosser
4th: Maya Marano, 5th: Mason Cottle, 6th: Samantha Kalicki Congratulations!!
