Mishpatim: S#H4941 from the word Mishpat which is from the word Shophet, which is to judge, to govern, to rule righteously.

מששפפט

Mishpatim is the name of this week's parasha and what we see in this parsha is actually a Continuation of The Ten Commandments.

It’s important for us to realize that GOD is trying to reveal so much about who He is in this portion, but in truth, I think much of the time we see in our ancestors, more of ourselves, and the flaws we still choose to fall back upon. Let me explain…In last week’s Parsha, Yitro we read that GOD summoned Moshe and told him that “I will come to you in a thick cloud in order that the people may hear when I speak with you and so trust you ever after” GOD instructed the people to wash their garments, to not go near a woman, referring specifically to ritual purity, and initially established boundaries for the people to abide by so as to not ascend the mountain of GOD outside of His specific instruction.

And remember, GOD’s spoken word accomplishes the same thing that our spoken words do in revealing our character, as we read in “For the mouth speaks what overflows from the heart. (Mat 12:34 CJB) GOD is providing a divine revelation of His Heart for us beloved.

45 The good person produces good things from the store of good in his heart, while the evil person produces evil things from the store of evil in his heart. For his mouth speaks what overflows from his heart. (Luk 6:45 CJB)

In Exodus chapter 20 verse 15 we read “All the people witnessed the thunder and the lightning, the blare of the horn and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw it , they fell back and stood at a distance” His appearance and His word are revealing His character to His people. And GOD , if you recall in Exodus chapter 19, verses 12 and 13 we read, “You shall set bounds for the people round about, saying ‘Beware of going up the mountain or touching the border of it. Whoever touches the mountain shall be put to death; no hand shall touch him, but

Page 2: Bmidbar Ministries:Mishpatim Righteous Rulings

he shall be either stoned or shot; beast or man, he shall not live.’When the ram’s horn sounds a long blast, they may go up on the mountain.”

B E I T V E R Y C L E A R L Y PO IN T E D O U T T O A L L O F US H E R E TODAY…GOD DID NOT APPOINT JUST MOSHE, OR JUST MOSHE

A A R O N , H IS SO NS A ND T H E 70 E L DE RS T O ASC E ND T H E M O UN T A IN , H E APPO IN T E D E V E R Y O N E T O ASC E ND T H E

M O UN T A IN!

But what happened? He uttered the 10 Commandments and at the point the people fell back and stood at a distance and said to Moshe, “You speak to us and we will obey, but let not GOD speak to us, lest we die. Moses answered the people, “Be not afraid; for GOD has come only in order to test you, and in order that the fear of Him may be ever with you, so that you do not go astray.” So the people remained at a distance, while Moses approached the thick cloud where GOD was. (Exo. 20:15-18)

See, the Mishpatim are just as important as the 10 Commandments.

GOD is still on the mountain! He’s still revealing His character and His Heart, and He’s still instructing His covenant people; but rather than go up the mountain and experience the fullness of who He is, they would rather shrink back in fear and refuse to go! And instead tell Moses that he should go for them.

Why?? Because receiving GOD’s Word directly from Him made them feel fearful to the point of death. Death of what? Their flesh! They did not want to humble themselves and be accountable to GOD! But God is trying to teach these people an important part of who He is, and who they are!

What we have here folks is a reflection of ourselves! We remain, oftentimes even consciously aware of it, still choose rather than to be free of strongholds that steal our joy, destroy our hope, and kill our family, we would choose to remain a slave to those things in the hope that we might devise a better way.

But GOD is telling Israel “THIS IS THE ONLY WAY!”

Page 3: Bmidbar Ministries:Mishpatim Righteous Rulings

Within the 10 Commandments we learn that they’re divided into 2 distinct groups. The first four commandments have to do with GOD and man, as they each complete with “The LORD your GOD”. (I the LORD am your GOD who brought you out of the land of Egypt, the house of bondage, etc.)

The second set of the remaining 6 commandments have to do with man’s relationship with himself. (Honor your father and your mother, You shall not murder, You shall not commit adultery) okay? Which reveals that what our Messiah Yeshua said only reflected what GOD said on the mountain when Yeshua said,

“37 And He said to him, "'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.' 38 "This is the great and foremost commandment. 39 "The second is like it, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' 40 "On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets." (Mat 22:37-40 NAS)

But how are we ever going to learn how to Love GOD and to Love our neighbor, much less ourselves, unless we LISTEN to HIS Mishpatim!!!!! Which is why King David’s statement in Psalm chapter 40 was so critical when he said, 6 Sacrifice and meal offering Thou hast not desired; My ears Thou hast opened; Burnt offering and sin offering Thou hast not required. 7 Then I said, "Behold, I come; In the scroll of the book it is written of me; 8 I delight to do Thy will, O my God; Thy Law is within my heart." (Psa 40:6-8 NAS)

OH THAT OUR HEARTS WOULD BE SOFT, PLIABLE AND RECEPTIVE TO HIS WORD TODAY MY DEAR ONES.

It’s not a coincidence that the very first of the ten commandments begins with a reference to slavery, or bondage “I the LORD am your GOD who brought you out of the land of Egypt, the house of bondage” and the Mishpatim, or Rulings which YHWH spoke directly from the Mountain just after the 10 commandments is a direct reference to how to have a proper relationship with a slave or bond-servant.

Page 4: Bmidbar Ministries:Mishpatim Righteous Rulings

A quick word about bondservants: Slavery in the time of our Israelite ancestors was not the same as we typically picture in our western mindset typical of black slavery as illustrated in America’s early days, from the rat-infested trade-ships that sailed from Africa trafficking slave labor into the states and using them for harsh labor, and oftentimes being treated cruelly, and unfairly.

Etz Hayim’s commentary notes that slavery here “does not refer to the condition of cruel, permanent bondage. It deals with people who find themselves obliged to sell their labor for a fixed time to repay a debt or as a result of bankruptcy. The status of a slave in the torah was better than that of a slave in Egypt… This chapter still considers the slave and his or her family as the master’s property and calls for decent treatment. Deuteronomy, seen by most scholars as a later compilation, considers slaves as virtually members of the master’s family, to be included in festival celebrations and sent off with gifts at the end of their period of service.” (Etz Hayim, p.457).

4 Those who abandon Torah praise the wicked, but those who keep Torah fight them. 5 Evil people don't understand justice (Mishpat), but those who seek ADONAI understand everything. (Pro 28:4-5 CJB)

Beloved if we begin to pick and choose what commandments are for us, we then bring judgment upon GOD’s judgment upon ourselves!

“11 Brothers, stop speaking against each other! Whoever speaks against a brother or judges a brother is speaking against Torah and judging Torah. And if you judge Torah, you are not a doer of what Torah says, but a judge. 12 There is but one Giver of Torah; he is also the Judge, with the power to deliver and to destroy. Who do you think you are, judging your fellow human being? (Jam 4:11-12 CJB)

This parsha deals with justice, not vengeance YHWH desires us to live our lives holy to Him and walk in a way that brings honor to Him

• YHWH is laying foundational boundaries regarding relationships

• Not boxing you in to keep you from having relationships

Page 5: Bmidbar Ministries:Mishpatim Righteous Rulings

5 Look, I have taught you laws and rulings, just as ADONAI my God ordered me, so that you can behave accordingly in the land where you are going in order to take possession of it. 6 Therefore, observe them; and follow them; for then all peoples will see you as having wisdom and understanding. When they hear of all these laws, they will say, 'This great nation is surely a wise and understanding people.' (Deu 4:5-6 CJB)

Biblically (hebraically)

• 17 represents good

Tov – good – • טוב

• 2+6+9 = 17

• 18 represents life

chay – life – • חי

• 10+8 = 18

• The 17th Parsha is Yitro

• The 18th Parsha is Mishpatim

• The two together show you how to have a “good life “

• When you are submitted to and bought by YHWH …

• You don’t own you

• You don’t have rights

• You have responsibility to the one who bought you (YESHUA)

• You live as He says, not as you feel like it

Looking back

• Israel was redeemed

• Brought out of Egypt and to the Mt.

• They were given authority

• They were given the 10 sayings

• Here, they are being given the Mishpatim, to help in their relationships with themselves and with each other

• All this was done in order to lay the proper foundation for the building of the Mishkan.

LET’S READ EXODUS 21:2-6

"If you purchase a Hebrew slave, he is to work six years; but in the seventh, he is to be given his freedom without having to pay anything. (5) Nevertheless, if the slave declares, 'I love my master, my wife and my children, so I don't want to go free,' (6) then his master is to bring him before God; and there at the door or doorpost, his master is to pierce his ear with an awl; and the man will be his slave for life.

The slave gave away his own will… He was not to be forcibly separated from his family He stayed for the love of his family and his master. This is the path of discipleship We love our master and our family. Therefore we declare lifelong allegiance to our master

They go before God (judges)

At the door ‐ ההדדללת -אאל Dalet (Who is Yeshua, because He said ‘I Am The Door’)

Or the doorpost – ההממזווזזה-אאל The word there in Hebrew for Door Post or Gate Post is Mezuzah! (Which is The Word, who again, is reference to Messiah Yeshua)

His ear will be pierced with an awl (His ear, why his ear? I submit to you it is because the ear is symbolic not only of how we receive GOD’s instruction, but once, received in our ear, we apply it directly to our heart, therefore our heart is submitted to The WORD.

The blood will be applied at the doorpost

Page 7: Bmidbar Ministries:Mishpatim Righteous Rulings

7 | P a g e

And he will be a bond‐servant

A bond‐servant had to be treated like a son!

Why do we place the Mezuzot on the door? (The Mezuzot is typically a protective cover, hollowed out on the inside that is attached to the door post with a nail, and inside it contains a copy of The Shema; the 3rd letter of the word Shema is a ayin, the last letter of the word Echad is a Dalet. When you combine the Ayin and the Dalet it sounds like “Ed”, as in Ed or Edward, which in Hebrew means “Witness”. So what we’re saying is in that door is a witness that inside the House dwell the covenant people of YHWH, or El Shaddai. So when you put Mezuzah in your house it means when we come through the door and we kiss the Mezuzot, which is a tradition, not in Scripture, it tells the people coming in behind me that I honor and respect that Covenant abided by the people that live in that house.

Understand this: The Word of GOD reveals to His people the character of Himself as revealed by His Son, Yeshua Messiah, who is the express image of YHWH! (15 He is the visible image of the invisible God. He is supreme over all creation, (Col 1:15 CJB))

And Remember, when we study His Mishpatim, we are learning how to walk as Yeshua walked, and when we do it correctly it fulfills Yeshua’s prayer as outlined in John chapter 17 when He prayed to His Father saying,

“20 "I do not ask in behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; 21 that they may all be one; even as Thou, Father, art in Me, and I in Thee, that they also may be in Us; that the world may believe that Thou didst send Me. 22 "And the glory which Thou hast given Me I have given to them; that they may be one, just as We are one; 23 I in them, and Thou in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, that the world may know that Thou didst send Me, and didst love them, even as Thou didst love Me. (Joh 17:20-23 NAS)

The Father wants us to be Echad with Him, and to be Echad with one another! If we refuse to abandon those old ways of thinking we’ve clung to for so long all because it’s something familiar to us, we give up the chance to GO UP THE MOUNTAIN and be TRULY CHANGED!!!

Page 8: Bmidbar Ministries:Mishpatim Righteous Rulings

8 | P a g e

DON’T YOU WANT TO GO UP THE MOUNTAIN? DON’T YOU WANT TO SHED THE HABITS, WAYS, AND PATTERNS AND PATHS YOU’VE WALKED IN FOR SO LONG, AND TO NO AVAIL? What is keeping you from making AliYah?

Fear? Pride? An unwilling Heart? Beloved, we have to realize that although this appears intimidating, those things that whisper in our ears causing us to reconsider making that journey up the mountain, are the very things that only want to steal, kill, and destroy you. It’s Egypt’s residue, it’s 400 years of surviving by hardening your heart so you don’t walk in fear…Haven’t we been guilty of that from time to time? Let me tell you a story…

When you’re born again, do we automatically know what righteousness is? No! We’re redeemed but we still have an Egyptian mind. So in order to learn how to walk in His Righteous Rulings we have to LISTEN and RECEIVE His Mishpatim to learn how to Righteously Rule our own self, and how to conduct ourselves in interpersonal relationships, and our relationship with El Shaddai.

The problem we have, like many of our ancestors suffered also, was that when GOD provided His Word and they were told by Moshe what He expects in our relationship, many thought, “That’s for that guy, or that guy over there, not for me, I’m exempt from that rule”. But in order for us to Love GOD with all our Heart, Mind, and Strength, and in order to Love our neighbor as ourself, we must first understand what it means to Love ourself!

What does it mean to love yourself???

Well—Are we defining this by how Egypt defines Love? Or are we defining according to GOD?

Love according to Egypt results in bondage that heaps fear and pride upon a hardened heart. Love according to Adonai results in understanding the Mishpatim are provided to give structure, understanding, blessing, and the relational knowledge that we have a Redeemer who Loves us so much that He’s made a way to bring us back to life, and to free us from those things around us and within us that we struggle with daily. But we have got to receive it and apply it to our own

Page 9: Bmidbar Ministries:Mishpatim Righteous Rulings

lives FIRST if we’re going to experience what it truly means to be in covenant with YHWH.

We have to learn that these BOUNDARIES as laid out in His Mishpatim as established by YHWH will nurture balance and harmony and proper understanding and grow real relationship between us and each other and GOD. Because left to ourselves, we don’t know and do not possess correct boundaries.

7 Therefore, just as the Holy Spirit says, "Today if you hear His voice, 8 Do not harden your hearts as when they provoked Me, As in the day of trial in the wilderness, 9 Where your fathers tried Me by testing Me, And saw My works for forty years. 10 "Therefore I was angry with this generation, And said, 'They always go astray in their heart; And they did not know My ways'; (Heb 3:7-10 NAS)

174 I long for Thy salvation, O LORD, And Thy law is my delight. 175 Let my soul live that it may praise Thee, And let Thine ordinances (Mishpat) help me. 176 I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek Thy servant, For I do not forget Thy commandments. (Psa 119:174-176 NAS)

If we will LISTEN, RECEIVE, being of a willing heart, we too can like Moshe GO UP on the Mountain and receive all that was intended initially for the entire nation of Israel.

You see, in the next parasha we will learn that The Father is desiring to make a Sanctuary in their midst that He may dwell with them. But since the beginning He has desired to dwell IN them, and IN us! As Paul said to the Assembly at Corinth,

“16 Do you not know that you are a temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? (1Co 3:16 NAS)

What we’re seeing done in the natural here is being worked out in the spiritual. The Tabernacle is The Body of Moshiach! We individually are Temples of The Holy Spirit, and when joined together, in love, we are the corporate body of Messiah, come together under Him, who is Yeshua, Our Head. But before we can do this, before we can be a SetApart place for His presence to dwell, we have to

Page 10: Bmidbar Ministries:Mishpatim Righteous Rulings

10 | P a g e

abandon those things contrary to His Word, and receive, apply and abide in His Righteous Rulings!

Do nothing out of rivalry or vanity; but, in humility, regard each otheras better than yourselves —(4) look out for each other's interests and not just for your own. (5) Let your attitude toward one another be governed by your being in union with the Messiah Yeshua:

Looking at 18 "If two people fight, and one hits the other with a stone or with his fist,

and the injured party doesn't die but is confined to his bed; 19 then, if he recovers enough to be able to walk around outside, even if with a cane, the attacker will be free of liability, except to compensate him for his loss of time and take responsibility for his care until his recovery is complete. (Exo 21:18-19 CJB)

In other words, if I hurt you, even in an argument, then I’m liable for that damage that I’ve caused you…Now think about that for a minute.

Because all too often we would rather reflect on all that has been done to us, but in truth when we are called to stand before GOD, if we try to say, ‘well Susie did or said this or Bobby did or said this, or Barney sang this, or Slewfoot promised this’, He’s going to say, I’m going to deal with them, but this is not about them right now. Right now I’m talking and dealing with YOU! What is YOUR responsibility in this situation? What ownership do you have here in this? And we will all have to answer for the wrongs we’ve done. Did we abide by His Mishpatim, by His commandments? Did 12 we exhaust ourselves working with our own hands for our living? And when we were cursed, did we keep on blessing? when we were persecuted, did we go on putting up with it; 13 when we are slandered, did we continue making our appeal? (1Co 4:12-13 CJB)

When evil was done to us, did we return evil for evil? Insult for insult? But rather give a blessing instead as we understand that we were called for the very purpose that we might inherit a blessing. Did we refrain our tongue from evil and our lips from speaking guile? Did we turn away from evil and do good? Did we seek peace and pursue it when it would have been easier to nurse a root of

Page 11: Bmidbar Ministries:Mishpatim Righteous Rulings

11 | P a g e

bitterness and resentment and scheme ways to take justice into our own hands. (1 Pe 3:9-11 NAS)

When we do that, GOD doesn’t call it justice—He calls it Vengeance. And GOD says, 19 Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," says the Lord. (Rom 12:19 NAS)

Therefore you are without excuse, every man of you who passes judgment, for in that you judge another, you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things. 2 And we know that the judgment of God rightly falls upon those who practice such things. 3 And do you suppose this, O man, when you pass judgment upon those who practice such things and do the same yourself, that you will escape the judgment of God? (Rom 2:1-3 NAS)

Let’s look at Exodus 21:33-34 33 "If someone removes the cover from a cistern or digs one and fails to cover it, and an ox or donkey falls in, 34 the owner of the cistern must make good the loss by compensating the animal's owner; but the dead animal will be his. (Exo 21:33-34 CJB)

Again, practical application worked out in the natural, but also symbolic of what is being worked out in the spiritual! A Cistern is symbolic of a well with no water, it has no Living Water in it, it just collects whatever comes along. What does an empty well with No Living water symbolize? A life without Yeshua!

Jeremiah says “13 "For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, The fountain of living waters, To hew for themselves cisterns, Broken cisterns, That can hold no water. (Jer 2:13 NAS)

So what does it mean to cover a cistern? Isn’t Yeshua our Messiah? Yeshua is our covering!

Page 12: Bmidbar Ministries:Mishpatim Righteous Rulings

12 | P a g e

38 "Give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, they will pour into your lap. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return."

Again, isn’t this reflective of when we try and take justice into our own hands apart from His Righteous Rulings, or Mishpatim? If we do, we’re told here that we will suffer the same selfish ruling we meted out to our enemies.

39 And He also spoke a parable to them: "A blind man cannot guide a blind man, can he? Will they not both fall into a pit?

Another pit! This is symbolic of two people who live their lives without Yeshua as their head and in the course of life they both end up falling into a pit!

40 "A pupil is not above his teacher; but everyone, after he has been fully trained, will be like his teacher. (Luk 6:38-40 NAS)

Who is our Rabbi? Yeshua! If we submit ourselves to Yeshua’s authority found in His Word, then Right Relationship is accomplished!

Reading in Exodus Chapter 23, verses 1 and 2

"You are not to repeat false rumors; do not join hands with the wicked by offering perjured testimony.

If someone jumps off of a bridge, are you going to do it too?

“2 Do not follow the crowd when it does what is wrong; and don't allow the popular view to sway you into offering testimony for any cause if the effect will be to pervert justice. (Exo 23:1-2 CJB)

Just because its popular, doesn’t mean it’s from GOD. Ephesians 4:31-32 31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior.32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you. (Eph 4:31-32 NLT)

Page 13: Bmidbar Ministries:Mishpatim Righteous Rulings

13 | P a g e

In other words, if you’re listening to false reports, cut it off and don’t give ear to it anymore, because inevitably if you allow false rumors to be sown into your heart, it will eventually make its way back out and sown to others as well.

Exodus 23:4-5 4 "If you come upon your enemy's ox or donkey that has strayed away, take

it back to its owner. 5 If you see that the donkey of someone who hates you has collapsed under its load, do not walk by. Instead, stop and help. (Exo 23:4-5 NLT)

This calls your character into question. It doesn’t say anything about your enemy, it specifically instructs on what YOU are to do! Your character is in question here!

Are you going to do what Yeshua says and bless those who curse you? Bless those who spitefully use you? To pray for your enemies? (Mt.5:44) Are you going to reveal the character of GOD?

Ex. 23:20 20 "I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you on the way and bring

you to the place I have prepared. 21 Pay attention to him, listen to what he says and do not rebel against him; because he will not forgive any wrongdoing of yours, since my name resides in him. 22 But if you listen to what he says and do everything I tell you, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and a foe to your foes. 23 When my angel goes ahead of you and brings you to the Emori, Hitti, P'rizi, Kena'ani, Hivi and Y'vusi, I will make an end of them. 24 You are not to worship their gods, serve them or follow their practices; rather, you are to demolish them completely and smash their standing-stones to pieces.25 "You are to serve ADONAI your God; and he will bless your food and water. I will take sickness away from among you. (Exo 23:20-25 CJB)

My name resides in Him. Yeshua! Meaning Salvation, Rescue from Trouble, Shua meaning to watch, Shepherd, YAH-Shua….YHWH’s Shepherd.

Page 14: Bmidbar Ministries:Mishpatim Righteous Rulings

Yeshua said, “30 "I can do nothing on My own initiative. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is just, because I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. (Joh 5:30 NAS)

He is that spiritual Rock that followed Israel in the wilderness, He is the angel YHWH is referring to here and if we will abide in Him, which is to receive and walk according to His word, then we will experience victory in our lives over those that would seek to put us in bondage.

Exodus Chapter 24

Then He said to Moses, "Come up to the LORD, you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu and seventy of the elders of Israel, and you shall worship at a distance.

2 "Moses alone, however, shall come near to the LORD, but they shall not come near, nor shall the people come up with him."

3 Then Moses came and recounted to the people all the words of the LORD and all the ordinances; and all the people answered with one voice, and said, "All the words which the LORD has spoken we will do!"

4 And Moses wrote down all the words of the LORD. Then he arose early in the morning, and built an altar at the foot of the mountain with twelve pillars for the twelve tribes of Israel.

Dr. Richard Booker, Founder and Director of The Institute for Hebraic-Christian Studies, President of Sounds of the Trumpet and accomplished author of more than 30 books, in his book “The Miracle of the Scarlet Thread” among many other things outlines the procedure and steps of cutting the ancient covenant, one of which steps requires either to plant a tree or to set up and establish a heap of stones or a stone as a pillar which will serve as a reminder of the covenant cut between two parties as revealed in the passages we read of Abraham and Abimelech and between Jacob and Laban, and also here in this week’s parashah, Mishpatim.

Page 15: Bmidbar Ministries:Mishpatim Righteous Rulings

In Proverbs 22 we read, “28 Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set. (Pro 22:28 KJV) and in chapter 23 read “10 Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless: (Pro 23:10 KJV)

In the 5th chapter of Hosea we read, “10 The princes of Judah were like them that remove the bound: therefore I will pour out my wrath upon them like water. 11 Ephraim is oppressed and broken in judgment, because he willingly walked after the commandment. (Hos 5:10-11 KJV)

In the 24th chapter of the book of Job we read, “Why, seeing times are not hidden from the Almighty, do they that know him not see his days? 2 Some remove the landmarks; they violently take away flocks, and feed thereof. 3 They drive away the ass of the fatherless, they take the widow's ox for a pledge. (Job 24:1-3 KJV)

*Now may be an opportune time to share the Ox and Me story on mp3)*

In Beresheeth, Genesis 21 we read in verse 32 32 Thus they made a covenant at Beersheba: then Abimelech rose up, and Phichol the chief captain of his host, and they returned into the land of the Philistines. 33 And Abraham planted a grove in Beersheba, and called there on the name of the LORD, the everlasting God. (Gen 21:32-33 KJV) full story begins at verse 27.

And in Genesis chapter 31 verse 44 of Jacob and his father-in-law Laban we read 44 Now therefore come thou, let us make a covenant, I and thou; and let it be for a witness between me and thee. 45 And Jacob took a stone, and set it up for a pillar. The word here used for Pillar is from S#4676 מצבה matstsebah mats-tsay-baw'

Meaning: 1) pillar, mastaba, stump 1a) pillar 1a1) as monument, personal memorial 1a2) with an altar 1b) (Hoph) stock, stump (of tree)

The root word of Mat’sehbah actually comes from the word Natsab, a Nun, Tsade and a Bet and it means a Pillar, or to Stand or to erect. The two letter root of Natsab is the Tsade Bet, or Tsab which means Wall as in the walls of the tent which are erected to become walls that protect the family from the harsh elements outside the tent. Combined with the Nun we have the letter for Life, Heir and

continuation, and put together it means The continued wall of protection. Isn’t this what our Father did for us by coming into covenant with Israel?

Creating a protective tent wall allowing us to enter into His tent to have relationship with Him while being protected from all our enemies outside the wall?

Interestingly, if we look back again at the Tsade Bet relationship it also reminds us of another parsha, can you remember it? That’s right! In the sixth chapter of Vayikra or Leviticus we’ll read again eventually the portion known to us as “Tsav”, which means “Command”.

Granted this spelling is with a Tsade Vav, but the two words are very similar in the way they sound and when we apply His commands to our lives with the Nun on the front of the word, they bring Life! Natsab, The pillar or Sacred Stone, as a Memorial, to remind us of our Covenant with GOD our Redeemer fulfilled in His Mishpatim, or Judgements, which is His Word! His Word, is Yeshua, The Living Stone, who restored our Covenant with GOD by the shedding of His Blood on The Cross as we refer again to Dr. Richard Booker’s book again

“When Jesus gave Himself as the perfect sacrifice, He fulfilled the Old Covenant. This does not mean He did away with it. It means He was and is the true spiritual reality of the prictures. We no longer worship a system (religion) but a person. Jesus of Nazareth (Messiah Yeshua) is that person. He is the sacrifice needed for cleansing. Speaking of Himself through King David, GOD said, ‘Sacrifice and offering Thou dost not desire; mine ears hast Thou opened: burnt-offering and sin-offering hast Thou not required. Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me. (Ps. 40:6-7, Hebrew 10:5-8).” 6 Sacrifice and meal offering Thou hast not desired; My ears Thou hast opened; Burnt offering and sin offering Thou hast not required. 7 Then I said, "Behold, I come; In the scroll of the book it is written of me; 8 I delight to do Thy will, O my God; Thy Law is within my heart." (Psa 40:6-8 NAS)

46 And Jacob said unto his brethren, Gather stones; and they took stones, and made an heap: and they did eat there upon the heap. 47 And Laban called it Jegarsahadutha [Ye’gar-sah-ha-dutha]: but Jacob called it Galeed. 48 And Laban

said, This heap is a witness between me and thee this day. Therefore was the name of it called Galeed; (Gen 31:44-48 KJV) Full story begins in verse 41

Gal`ed gal-ade' גלעד 1567

Meaning: Galeed = "witness heap" 1) the pile of stones heaped up between Jacob and Laban to certify their covenant; located on Mt Gilead

The word used here for pillar is synonymous with S#352 which is Ayil, an Alef Yod and a Lamed and we read that a pillar oftentimes was used as a personal memorial, as a monument, and as a Sacred Stone or Pillar.

We read in Kefa, or 1st Peter chapter 2 starting in verse 5 we read 5 you yourselves, as living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be cohanim set apart for God to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to him through Yeshua the Messiah.

6 This is why the Tanakh says, "Look! I am laying in Tziyon a stone, a chosen and precious cornerstone; and whoever rests his trust on it will certainly not be humiliated." 7 Now to you who keep trusting, he is precious. But to those who are not trusting, "The very stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone"; (1Pe 2:5-7 CJB)

Adonai uses these stones to remind us of our covenant with Him, and not only Him, but His perfect atoning sacrifice, that stone that followed Israel around in the wilderness who is Christ, Yeshua The Messiah.

“…under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; 2 and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea; 3 and all ate the same spiritual food; 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; and the rock was Christ. (1Co 10:1-4 NAS)

5 And he sent young men of the sons of Israel, and they offered burnt offerings and sacrificed young bulls as peace offerings to the LORD.

Burnt offering—The Olah: It’s completely burnt up and given to GOD.

Peace Offering—Shelem Offering: You offer this sacrifice unto GOD and GOD allows you to eat some of His offering so that you can eat from His Banquet Table!

6 And Moses took half of the blood and put it in basins, and the other half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar. (Life is represented in the blood)

7 Then he took the book of the covenant and read it in the hearing of the people; and they said, "All that the LORD has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient!"

8 So Moses took the blood and sprinkled it on the people, and said,

"Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words."

THE BLOOD AND THE WORD GO TOGETHER WITH PEOPLE DEDICATING THEMSELVES TO GOD!

REV.12:11 11 "And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even to death. (Rev 12:11 NAS) This is speaking of the Covenant of YHWH!

In his book The Miracle of The Scarlet Thread we read, “Moses built and altar and offered a sacrifice to God. He took the blood of the sacrificed animals and splashed it against the altar. He also threw blood toward the people themselves. In the same manner, he sprinkled blood over the Book of the Covenant containing the Ten Commandments and accompanying laws. Later he would sprinkle blood over the Tabernacle and all its furnishings used in worship. Then Moses declared before the people, “…This blood confirms and seals the covenant the LORD has made with you in giving you these laws” (Exo. 24:8 TLB) The writer of Hebrews puts it this way:

18 Hence even the first covenant was not ratified without blood. 19 For when every commandment of the law had been declared by Moses to all the people, he took the blood of calves and goats, with water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people,

20 saying, "This is the blood of the covenant which God commanded you." 21 And in the same way he sprinkled with the blood both the tent and all the vessels used in worship.

22 Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins. (Heb 9:18-22 RSV)

We learn from this that God gave the law, not as part of the blood covenant, but as his way of revealing Himself to the world. It was His calling card to show the world His character. In this respect, the law served as God’s divine mirror. When the Hebrew looked into the 10 Commandments, he would see God’s holiness and his sinfulness. (Scarlet Thread, pp.120-121).

9 Then Moses went up with Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel,

10 and they saw the God of Israel; and under His feet there appeared to be a pavement of sapphire, as clear as the sky itself.

WHO DID THEY SEE? HOW CAN ANYONE SEE GOD AND LIVE??

11 Yet He did not stretch out His hand against the nobles of the sons of Israel; and they beheld God, and they ate and drank.

I BELIEVE THEY SAW YESHUA, WHO IS THE VISIBLE IMAGE OF THE INVISIBLE ELOHIM! HOW COULD THEY SEE GOD? THEY WERE COVERED BY THE BLOOD! IF GOD LOOKED DOWN TO JUDGE THEM, WHAT DID HE SEE? THE BLOOD! HE SEES YOU PERFECT!

12 Now the LORD said to Moses, "Come up to Me on the mountain and remain there, and I will give you the stone tablets with the law and the commandment which I have written for their instruction."

13 So Moses arose with Joshua his servant, and Moses went up to the mountain of God. 14 But to the elders he said, "Wait here for us until we return to you. And behold, Aaron and Hur are with you; whoever has a legal matter, let him approach them."

Before Moses went up to the mountain, he established structure, and authority, and order so that the people would not be like sheep lead without a shepherd!

15 Then Moses went up to the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain.

16 And the glory of the LORD rested on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days; and on the seventh day He called to Moses from the midst of the cloud.

17 And to the eyes of the sons of Israel the appearance of the glory of the LORD was like a consuming fire on the mountain top.

18 And Moses entered the midst of the cloud as he went up to the mountain; and Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights. (Exo 24:1-18 NAS)
