As a leader, you will constantly be considering if you have the right team around you to successfully execute your vision, objectives and strategy. Often leaders will have a “gut feel” about which members of the team are right, who has great potential, what additional skills they need and who is holding the team back – perhaps the business has simply outgrown them now.

Frequently, these thoughts are kept inside the head of the leader and not openly discussed. Leaders can procrastinate over decisions regarding members of their team – often due to personal, emotional or political reasons. Our Board Advisory services help open the door to such discussions.

Board Assessment

Reviewing the composition and effectiveness of your board on a regular basis (every two years) can be regarded as simply an example of strong corporate governance, but it is especially valuable at particular stages of an organisation’s development:

» As part of a strategic planning process

» During periods of intense change

» Following a change in leadership

» As part of a succession planning process

» In advance of an exit or capital raising event

In practical terms, our Board Assessments begin with understanding your vision, strategy and objectives for the business and what it is you wish to achieve from the assessment. From there we use a range of survey and personality profiling tools, conduct individual interviews with each member of the board and attend a board meeting as an observer. A final report is produced detailing our observations and recommendations. We then help you prepare an Action Plan to achieve the desired improvements.

Conducting a Board Assessment can be a very delicate and sensitive process and must be managed accordingly.

The process can often bring to the surface deep-rooted issues, simmering conflict and place the long-standing career of some individuals under the spotlight. Our board advisors are highly experienced at managing these difficult issues and situations with the utmost care and sensitivity.

Executive Assessment

When critical leadership decisions need to be made — choosing between candidates in a merger or acquisition, building the right team after a CEO transition or new strategy implementation, or selecting the next generation of leaders and identifying their development needs — having accurate insight into executive talent allows organizations to make these decisions more confidently and avoid costly mistakes.

Our assessment experts work with clients to accurately evaluate senior executive teams at these critical moments, providing the insights needed to ensure the right executives are in the right roles today and offering the developmental recommendations to make sure future leaders are prepared for the challenges ahead.

Too often, companies make critical hiring, promotion and development decisions based on inadequate, incomplete and undependable information. Our assessment approach provides accurate and objective information about key players’ strengths and weaknesses that enable organizations to make thoughtful and informed leadership decisions. These insights can point to development needs for individual executives, reveal opportunities to improve executive team effectiveness and help make distinctions between finalist candidates.
