PREFACE

CBSE always believes in Global Trends of Educational Transformation. The CBSE

curriculum gets its lead from National Curriculum Framework – 2005 and Right to Free and

Compulsory Education Act – 2009. The aim of CBSE Curriculum is not just to let learners

obtain basic knowledge but to make them life-long learners. CBSE always updates and

reviews the syllabus to make it more relevant with educational transformation and in last few

years the chapters and topics which CBSE has added are very interesting and increase

practical knowledge.

Oswaal Question Banks are designed to nurture individuality and thus enhance one's

innate potentials which helps in increasing the self-study mode for students. This book

strengthens knowledge and attitude related to subject. It is designed in such a way that students

can set their own goals and can improve their problem solving and thinking skills.

The journey of this book is never ending as this book is reviewed every year and

new questions, previous year's examination questions, new HOTS or any change in

syllabus is updated time to time. Also regular review and readers’ feedback increases the

efficiency of this book gradually.

Moreover every Question Bank strictly follows the latest syllabus and pattern, and

contains more than sufficient questions and brief description of chapters, which help students in

practicing and completing the syllabus. Questions incorporated in this Question Bank

encompass all the ‘Typologies’ mentioned by CBSE namely Remembering, Understanding,

Application, High Order Thinking Skills and Evaluation. Solutions for these have been checked

twice and efforts have been made to align them closely to the Marking Scheme. Practically, this

book provides students everything they need to learn and excel.

At last we would like to thank our authors, editors, reviewers and specially students who

regularly send us suggestions which helps in continuous improvement of this book and makes

this book stand in the category of “One of the Best”. Wish you all Happy Learning.

29 August, 1905 - 03 December, 1979Indian Hockey Player

Dhyan Chand

The winner of three Olympic gold medals in field hockey, Indian hockey player Dhyan Chand was

undoubtedly one of the best sportsmen ever to have graced the game. A sportsman beyond compare,

his goal-scoring feats were simply out of the world. So much so that he was called “The Wizard” for his

uncanny hockey talent. He exercised tremendous control over the ball and was an expert at dribbling.

His love affair with hockey began when he joined the army as a teenager. Initially he played for the Army

teams where he made a name for himself. He was captain of Indian hockey team that went on to win gold

medal in the 1936 Berlin Olympics and was part of the earlier two Olympic Gold medal winning hockey

teams, i.e., 1928 Amsterdam Olympics and 1932 Los Angeles Olympics.

His dribbling skills were so unbelievable that his fans fondly called hima magician with a stick. Hockey authorities in the Netherlands once broke his hockey stick to check if there was a magnet inside.

It is rumoured that Adolf Hitler offered him German citizenship and the postof Colonel in the German Army following his splendid performance in the 1936 Berlin Olympics! The offer was declined by the Indian magician.

Once, when Dhyan Chand was unable to score in a match, he argued withthe match referee about the measurement of the goal post. To everybody’samazement, he was right; the goal post was found to be in contravention of the official minimum width prescribed under international rules.

Q. 6. Discuss the Cyclic Method with the help of example.Ans. In Cyclic Method, if the number of teams is in even

number, the team number 1 is fixed on the top of right hand side and then other team numbers in ascending order consecutively downward and then upward on the left side. If the number of teams is in odd number, the bye is fixed on the top of the right side. The rest of the procedure remains the same. Teams are rotated in clockwise direction. If number of teams is in even number, the number of rounds will be (N – 1 ). On the other hand, if the number of teams is in odd number, the number of rounds will remain the same. It means equal to the number of teams.

Example : Draw a fixture of 6 teams on league basis

according to Cyclic method. Here, Total number of teams = N = 6 Total number of matches

Cyclic

Step (Staircase)

Tabular

(ii) Double League Tournament is such a kind of tournament which produces a true winner 1

(iii) Fixture with the help of a Tabular Method :

For N = 6 Rows/Coloumns N + 1 = 6 + 1 = 7

1 Winner is declared as per the point system. Winner – 2 points Draw – 1 point Loser – 0 point The points are added for all the played matches. The team which scores maximum points will be

declared as winner. 1Q. 2. What is the meaning of tournament ? Draw Knock-

Out fixture for 27 teams. (OD-2013, Delhi-2012)Ans. Tournament is a large contest of many rounds

among various teams. It is a competition held among various teams in a particular activity according to a fixed schedule where a winner is decided.

Number of teams participating = N = 27 1 Number of matches = N – 1 = 27 – 1 = 26 matches. ½ Teams in the upper half =

N + 12

= 282

= 14 teams ½

Teams in the lower half = N − 12

= 262

= 13 teams ½

Number of teams participating are odd. So, no. of Byes will be = 32 – 27 = 5 Byes. ½ In a Knock-Out System, the team which loses the

match is eliminated and the winners continue to play. When we have less time, usually we conduct single elimination tournament. Date/time and court number, is specified for each match so that teams/players report for their matches well in advance. ½
