BIOGRAPHY

Once stated “As always, Arthur Skaer – real estate agent, orchestrator, all-around community guy” was able to get a diversity group of people to get things done as told on the front page of the Sunday Edition Washington Post1 . Arthur from an early age has interacted with Foreign Dignitaries and High ranking American Officials as his father held high profile post in both Diplomatic and Military Functions. He and his sibling were taught to respect and to interact with the guests at these regular events needed for the successful part of their father’s job. He has travel widely throughout the world visiting over 20 countries and being on four different continents. In the Washington Area this has been especially useful in the many cultures that resided here. His early experience with adults aided greatly when his first position in banking out of college where he had daily interactions with the seniors for a Senior Apartment building next to the bank. Many of them were originally from foreign lands and he was able to gain their trust quickly with knowledge of their land and ability to interact with people his senior. That was an important skill when trust is paramount in bank dealing with customer who live through the Great Depression. Arthur’s people skills have remained front in center in his career in banking, sales, customer service, real estate, columnist and educational consultant to the Gift and Talent Students in Fairfax County as reported in the Connection Newspaper2.

Since Arthur moved in Loudoun County in 1997 near the beginning of the community of South Riding he has been active in the community. He has held several offices on three committees in the HOA. He wrote in the first newsletters of the South Riding profiling new business owners coming into the community. He ran an indoor soccer team that had the first Town Manager Paul Orlando and the recent HOA President Jeff Salmon on it not surprising call South Riding United. He coordinated a pickup up game of soccer for over 7 years that caught the eye of the Washington Post Reporter. He has coached Loudoun Soccer Starting in 2002 and won an award for Sportsmanship in 2011 given in R.F.K. Stadium.

He is very interest in Senior Issues. He is part of what the media calls the “Sandwich Generation”. He has a child and a senior (Mother-In-Law) living in his home. He has worked with Ann Hinerman at the Senior Center in South Riding for several years. He has started a walking club with the seniors there to keep them healthy and active. He is on the Board of the Northern Virginia Senior Olympics and is working on expanding Loudoun’s participation in this year’s games. He is now old enough that he has competed and won several gold medals in his age class in the N.V.S.O. He is a Certified Personal Trainer (National Association of Sports Medicine) with a focus on Senior Fitness. He is using his skills to get his Mother-In-Law off a walker and walking unaided again. His household spans three generations. He can weigh the needs of the children and schools with the needs of the working parents and adults as well as the seniors.
