FLANNEL RHYME: 5 Little Boats

The first little boat went chug, chug, chug. The second little boat went tug, tug, tug. The third little boat went row, row, row. The fourth little boat went oh sooo slooooow. Here comes the sailboat, watch it go!

SONG: Row Row Row Your Boat This activity can be especially fun if you have a box large enough to sit in (e.g. a refrigerator box) and a crocodile and a lion stuffed animal. Hide the stuffed animals in your “boat” and pull them out at the appropriate times. At the end of storytime, let all of the kids take a “ride” in your cardboard boat.

Now we’re going to sing Row Row Row Your Boat. Everyone knows that one right? So everyone hop into your pretend boat (pretend to step in a boat and sit down), grab your paddle, and start paddling down the river with me. Let’s sing …

Row row row your boat, gently down the stream Merrily merrily merrily merrily life is but a dream.

Row row row your boat gently down the stream, If you see a crocodile, don’t forget to scream! AHH!!!!

Row row row your boat, gently to the shore,

Stand-Up Activity Sung to the tune of"Mary Had a Little Lamb"

My Little Boat in the

Wavy Sea The wavy sea goes up and down, up and down,

up and down. (Raise hands up high, then move them

down low.) The wavy sea goes up and down, with my

little boat. (Cup hands like a

boat.) The fishing poles move side to side, side to side,

side to side. (Put hands together in front of body, then move them together

left and right.) The fishing poles move side to side, in my

little boat. (Cup hands like a

boat.) All the fishies just wiggle their tails, wiggle their tails,

wiggle their tails. (Wiggle bottom.)

All the fishies just wiggle their tails, but I never catch a fish.

(Shake head and one finger.)

People Row a Boat

Five little people climbed into a boat.

(Count jive fingers on one hand)

The boat tilted right.

(Lean body to the right.)

The boat tilted left.

(Lean body to the left)

They rowed and rowed and rowed,

(Pretend to row a boat)

But the boat went very, very slow.

(Roll hands slowly over each other)

Five more people climbed into the boat.

(Count five fingers on the other hand)

The boat tilted left.

(Lean body to the left.)

The boat tilted right.

(Lean body to the right)

Everyone began to row,

(Pretend to row a boat)

And now the boat is going very, very fast. (Roll hands quickly

over each other)

Action Song: Have You Ever Seen a Sailboat? a great one from Jbrary! Have you ever seen a sailboat, a sailboat, a sailboat Have you ever seen a sailboat Waving its sail? Wave this way and that way And that way and this way Have you ever seen a sailboat waving its sail? Other Verse: Rocking back and forth Five Sailboats (tune: Five Little Ducks) Five sailboats went out one day Over the waves and far away With the wind, they begin to rock One sailboat returns to the dock Four sailboats...

Rhyme: Motorboat, Motorboat

Motorboat, motorboat, go so slow, (Move arms in a circle slowly or lie on back and bicycle legs) Motorboat, motorboat, go so fast, (Move arms in a circle fast or move legs) Motorboat, motorboat, step on the gas! (Use foot and pretend to step on gas) VROOOOOM! (Repeat rhyme)

Song: “My Big Green Boat” (tune: “The Wheels on the Bus”)

I love to row in my big green boat, (Pretend to row) Big green boat, big green boat. I love to row in my big green boat Out on the deep blue sea.

My big green boat has two white sails, (Raise arms above head and wave gently) Two white sails, two white sails. My big green boat has two white sails, Out on the deep blue sea.

So come for a row in my big green boat, (Pretend to row) My big green boat, my big green boat. So come for a row in my big green boat, Out on the deep blue sea. (Source: Upstart Promotions)

Drive, Drive, Drive [tune:"Row, Row, Row Your Boat" ]

Drive, drive, drive your truck, All around the town. Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, Up the hills and down.

Turn, turn, turn the key, Make the engine roar, Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, Let's go to the store.

Press, press, press the pedal, Give the engine gas, Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, Now we're going fast.

Turn, turn, turn the wheel, That is how we steer. Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, Make a turn right here.

Push, push, push the brake, Make the car slow down. Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, Now we are in town.

In My Car In my car so shiny and new There are lots of things that I can do I can buckle my seat belt with a click, click, click I can honk my horn with a beep, beep, beep I can drive forward, I can drive back I can turn left and I can turn right an I can drive out of sight!

Paper Plate Cars Craft Supplies: * Large Paper Plate * Favorite Colored Tissue Paper * White/Black Cardstock * School Glue * Craft Scissors * Hand-Held Office Stapler

Directions: * First cut your paper plate in half. This will give you TWO cars. * Now take your tissue paper and cut it into small squares {let the kids practice their cutting skills} * Take your paper plate halves and put a good amount of glue all over them. Have children place the tissue paper on top of the glue, until they are completely covered. * When they are done with that, set aside to let them dry completely while you trim out the other car features from your cardstock {think tires, windows, lights etc} * To finish off the Paper Plate Car kid craft – simply staple the finished cardstock pieces in their designated spots. Have children add other embellishments to really make it their own! Then display proudly!

And of course with cars you need a stoplight! To make this Paper Plate Stoplight – simply paint a paper plate completely black, cut in half, staple onto a piece of black cardstock and add the

“red, yellow and green” circles to the center.
