TITLE AND REGISTRATION: The information on the title for the boat should match the registration and the owner’s name. Look on the title to see if any liens have been released. Some states require titles for trailers too.

CHECK THE HULL IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (HIN): It must match the title and registrationor the boat may not be able to be registered.

BILL OF SALE: Fill this form out completely. Make sure the seller’s name and the boat’s HIN is exactly as it appears on the title.

PAYMENT: Cash is okay for small amounts, but obtaining a cashier’s check at the buyer’s bank is safest.
