On Tuesday 4th July Golden Eagles and the Kingfishers got a visit from the guitar teacher Charlie
and Ella to show us all a mini performance
They played some awesome songs on the guitar and explained the basics of playing a small instrument
called a ukulele which he strummed to a simple tune We all thought that they did brilliantly and gave
them a well-deserved round of applause By Ria
Jubilee Field 10th July 2017
The whole school went to Jubilee field to explore and learn more about minibeasts and flowers It
was a wonderful sunny morning and the children thoroughly enjoyed it
There were a variety of activities for the children to take part in They spent time identifying wild
flowers with Mrs Clugston and then looked for minibeasts and their habitats Another activity was
investigating which colours insects preferred and then linking this to insects and how they pollinate
flowers The children could also spend some quiet time searching for and sketching the
grasshoppers
Egypt week This month the children joined classes to discover about Ancient Egypt
They learned how to write and calculate using Ancient Egyptian numbers
Some children even challenged themselves to work out a jigsaw of Arabic numbers as a 100
square They had to apply knowledge of our base ten number system to recognise patterns and
similarities in the Arabic numbers
The children have learned about
Ancient Egyptian society and who
was rich and powerful and who was
poor They all took part in a practical
activity showing this in the
playground
They also made clay shabtis and scarab beetles which they are looking forward to painting and taking home at
the end of the year
The children also learned about hieroglyphs
and how they represent sounds not letters
They all drew their own cartouches of their
names
Finally a great big thank you for the Egyptian food which was enjoyed during Thursday afternoon ndash the children
really enjoyed it
