The AW189 is a brand new 8.3 tonne, twin-engine helicopter, designed to
answer the growing market demand for a versatile, affordable, multirole
platform.
Ideally suited to long range, deep water missions typical of current Offshore
operations, AW189 features high per formance, state-of-the-art technologies
and exceeds the latest regulatory requirements (EASA/FAA Part 29, JAR OPS 3/
EUOPS).
Belonging to the AgustaWestland Family of products (with AW169 and
market-leading AW139), mixed-feet operators can leverage the advantage
of a common design philosophy across platforms.

SAFETY BY DESIGN
The AW189 exceeds the airworthiness
requirements of the most recent EASA/FAA
amendments in the transport category (Part 29),
qualifying it for the most stringent guidelines
of the major Oil and Gas companies.
Further safety features include structural
crashworthiness integral to the design of the
airframe, fuel system and seats, a reinforced
windscreen and optimum position of critical
controls, which mitigates the consequences
of a birdstrike.
The main gearbox benets from an unparalleled
50 minute dry-run capability.
The cockpit design incorporates latest
generation, advanced situational awareness
technologies (HTAWS, TCAS II) which reduces
crew workload.
High main rotor clearance ensures a safe
environment for ground operations and
maintenance crew. Advanced Helicopter Usage
and Monitoring System (HUMS) diagnostic tools
continuously monitor systems, further
enhancing safety and reducing time on the
ground.
In the event of an emergency landing or
ditching, seats are aligned to large push-out
windows to maximise egress speed. Flotation
system is certied for ditching up to Sea
State 6 and life raft s are positioned for access
directly from the cabin or from outside.
PERFORMANCE
The AW189 is powered by two GE CT7-2E1
engines, delivering high speed and superior
performance in hover and Cat. A.
The aerodynamic fuselage and innovative
rotor blade design reduce fuel consumption
and maximise range.
The excellent helicopter radius of action allows
to transport 16 passengers at 140 nm (ROA).
AVIONICS - THE PILOTS CHOICE
Exceptional external visibility and leading-edge
avionics maximise pilots situational awareness.
The open-architecture avionics suite includes a
fully digital glass cockpit with four 8x10
displays (AMLCD), a 4-axis dual-duplex digital
automatic ight control system (DAFCS) and
dual Flight Management Systems (FMS),
minimising pilot workload during VFR/IFR ight.
The avionics suite is suitable for satellite-based
IFR navigation (RNAV/RNP, vertical navigation
and precision approaches) together with
advanced communication and surveillance
requirements (ADS-B).
An optional Synthetic Vision System emulates
the surrounding topography to improve terrain
and obstacle awareness, whilst an optional
Enhanced Vision System allows pilots to see
through darkness, smoke, dust and light fog to
further ensure safety.
The avionics system also performs Point-In-
Space (PINS) for Offshore approach procedures.
SPACIOUS CABIN DESIGN
The AW189 benets from the largest cabin in its class (11.2 m3/ 395.5 ft3),
featuring:
Large, at oor space, with accommodation for up to 19 passengers
disposed on 4 rows
Seat rows are aligned with emergency exit windows
Easily recongured, with different internal layout
Low vibration and noise levels
Capability to rapidly install equipment for Lim. SAR operations
Large sliding doors for speed of passenger entry and egress
to all 4 rows, simultaneously
Large baggage compartment (2.4 m3/ 85 ft3), accessible from both
helicopters sides.
Cabin length 3.47 m 11 ft 5 in
Cabin width 2.43 m 7 ft 12 in
Cabin height 1.42 m 4 ft 8 in

FOR YOUR MISSION
AgustaWestland has leveraged decades of collaboration
with customers worldwide to ensure unrivalled versatility
in the AW189 platform. The AW189 is certied for all
weather, day and night, VFR/IFR operations, critical for the
harsh conditions prevalent in Offshore operations.
The spacious, versatile cabin seats 16 passengers as
standard and can be congured with up to 19 seats for
high density missions and 12 seats for ultra-long range
requirements. High cruise speed, an extremely high payload
due to the efcient rotor system design and superior O.E.I
capability ensures safety and reduces operational costs.
Latest generation avionics enhance situational awareness,
reduce crew workload and expand operational capabilities.
Typical Offshore Passenger Conguration:
16 individual crashworthy seats with separate four point
safety belts
External life rafts (2 x 21) with emergency JTSO 126
beacon
ADELT JTSO 126
Emergency oats (up to Sea State 6 ditching capability)
Helicopter Emergency Exit Light System (HEELS)
HUMS and Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) as standard
HTAWS as standard
VHF/FM radio
Satcom with Flight Following
Environmental Control System
TCAS II
Weather radar
Optional Equipment includes: Full Ice Protection System
(FIPS) or Limited Ice Protection System (LIPS) for operations
in icing conditions, pressure refuelling, single/dual hoist,
search light, mission console, nose-mounted FLIR and
cargo hook.
AW189 MISSION CAPABILITY
Radius of Action, IFR mission:
Return fuel, 10% contingency, 30 minute reserves
Passengers at 100 kg / 220 lb each
SUPERIOR ECONOMICS AND SUPPORT
The AW189 is designed to maximise operational capability
and minimise cost. The low cost seat/mile and long range
capability make the platform a compelling alternative to
more expensive 19 seat helicopters currently in operation
offshore. Maintenance operations have been minimised
by design, as have components subject to overhaul and
replacement, reducing downtime for ight-intensive
Offshore schedules. A worldwide network of service and
support centres is already serving the Offshore industry.
AW189 TRAINING
AgustaWestland customers maximise safety and
operational effectiveness with advanced, tailored training
solutions. State-of-the-art Level D Full Flight Simulators
(FFS), computer-based modules and training device
for ight and ground crew, are available to serve the
worldwide AW189 customer base. AgustaWestland Family
operators will benet from optimised training for pilots and
technicians familiar with the AW139 platform, reducing
time required for instructor-led and FFS-based training.
