Belize defeats El Salvador to pick up first win

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, September 3, 2013. - Belize battled hard to defeat El Salvador 3-1 (25-23, 25-20, 21-25, 25-19) at the 10th Girls’ U-18 Central American Championship at Gymnasium Alfonso Gordillo on Tuesday. El Salvador had advantage in all sets and Belize gradually pulled their game together to claim their first victory in the tournament. Belize improved to 1-1 their win-loss record, while El Salvador remains winless.

Belize had advantage in the blocking by 10-2 and in service points by 13-11. Kevanna Sebastian led Belize offensive line with a match high of 20 points, including 8 blocks, followed by Mya Musa who contributed with 10 points. With 17 points, Andrea Calderon was the top scorer of El Salvador along with captain Karla Conde who chipped in with 12 points. Libero Nayala Tun was invited to the press conference, “we worked hard and played as a team to finish with the victory”. “We played unsure of ourselves, we weren’t able to control neither our receiving nor our serves” indicated El Salvador’s top scorer Andrea Calderon. Coach Lupita Quan of Belize expressed “the girls played with more intensity today after losing yesterday’s match too relaxed being up by two sets. El Salvador hung in there and took the third set but they lost energy.” “The team lacks courage; I feel as they play without spirit, our motivation is not enough. We aren’t able to do well in serving and receiving at the same time” said Karina Cortez, coach of El Salvador.

Belize derrota a El Salvador para primera victoria

CIUDAD DE GUATEMALA, Guatemala, 3 de septiembre de 2013.- Belize luchó fuerte para derrotar a El Salvador 3-1 (25-23, 25-20, 21-25, 25-19) en el X Campeonato Centroamericano Sub-18 Femenino en el Gimnasio Alfonso Gordillo el martes. El Salvador tomó ventaja en todos los sets y Belize gradualmente se reagrupó para adjudicarse su primera victoria en el torneo. Belize mejoró a 1-1 su record de juegos ganados, mientras que El Salvador permanece sin triunfos.

Belize tuvo ventaja en bloqueo por 10-2 y en puntos de servicio por 13-11. Kevanna Sebastian encabezó la línea ofensiva de Belize con el puntaje más alto del juego con 20 puntos, incluyendo 8 por bloqueo, seguida de Mya Musa que contribuyó con 10 puntos. Con 17 puntos, Andrea Calderón fue la mejor anotadora para El Salvador, junto a la capitana Karla Conde que aportó 12 puntos. La Libero Nayala Tun fue invitada a la conferencia de prensa, “trabajamos fuerte y en equipo para finalizar con la victoria.” “Jugamos inseguras, no pudimos controlar el recibo ni el saque” indicó la máxima anotadora de El Salvador, Andrea Calderón. La entrenadora Lupita Quan de Belize expresó “las muchachas jugaron hoy más intensidad luego de haber perdido ayer muy relajadas al ir arriba por dos sets. El Salvador se mantuvo y logró ganar el tercero pero fueron perdiendo energía.” “El equipo carece de coraje; siento que juegan sin ganas, nuestra motivación no es suficiente. No logramos hacer bien a la vez el servicio y el recibo” dijo Karina Cortez, entrenadora de El Salvador.

Honduras collects second win

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, September 3, 2013. - Honduras beat Nicaragua in straight sets 25-14, 25-19, 25-8 to collect their second win in the second day of actions at the 10th Girls’ U-18 Central American Championship. The winners’ performance was more precise than that of Nicaragua whose display was an inexperienced one but with high energy and good attitude. Honduras dominated Nicaragua with better service by 10-3 while committing less unforced errors 28-46 and improves to 2-0.

Mirian Lobo was Honduras’ top scorer with 10 points, including 4 aces, while Yamaris Duarte led Nicaragua with 5 points. “Our energy was responsible for today’s win, even if we were less enthusiastic in the second set. If we continue to play with confidence I’m sure we’ll have more victories” indicated Mirian Lobo. “We lack experience but we have a good disposition to improve; I’m satisfied with our performance in the first and second set, but we lost concentration in the end” said Captain Julissa Herrera of Nicaragua. For Coach Jorge Montoya of Honduras, this is an important win “we weren’t looking for a specific score but we were aiming to win. We are still struggling with concentration, but little by little things will improve as this is a team in development.” “The girls doubt too much, but I didn’t want to put more pressure on them because we are building for the future and results will come further on. They need support from the technical staff” expressed Carlos Kasper, Nicaragua’s coach.

Honduras cosecha segundo triunfo

CIUDAD DE GUATEMALA, Guatemala, 3 de septiembre de 2013.- Honduras se impuso a Nicaragua en sets seguidos 25-14, 25-19, 25-8 para agregar su segundo triunfo en el segundo día de acciones del X Campeonato Centroamericano Sub-18 Femenino. El desempeño de las ganadoras fue más preciso que el de Nicaragua quien manifestó su inexperiencia pero con muy buena energía y actitud. Honduras dominó a Nicaragua con mejor servicio por 10-3, cometiendo menos errores no forzados 28-46 y mejorando su record a 2-0.

Mirian Lobo fue la mejor anotadora de Honduras con 10 puntos, incluyendo 4 puntos de servicio, mientras que Yamaris Duarte encabezó a Nicaragua con 5 puntos. “Nuestro ánimo es responsable del triunfo de hoy, a pesar de que lucimos menos entusiastas en el segundo set. Si continuamos jugando con confianza, estoy segura que obtendremos más victorias” indicó Mirian Lobo. “No tenemos experiencia pero tenemos una buena disposición de mejorar; estoy satisfecha con lo que hicimos en el primer y segundo set, pero perdimos la concentración al final” dijo la capitana Julissa Herrera de Nicaragua. Para el entrenador Jorge Montoya de Honduras, esta es una victoria importante “no buscábamos un resultado específico pero si apuntábamos a ganar. Aún tenemos dificultades en la concentración, pero poco a poco las cosas irán mejorando porque este es un equipo en proceso de desarrollo”. “Las muchachas están temerosas, pero no quise presionarlas más porque estamos construyendo para el futuro y los resultados se darán más adelante. Necesitan el apoyo de todo el cuerpo técnico” expresó Carlos Kasper, entrenador de Nicaragua.

Costa Rica rallies to beat Guatemala

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, September 3, 2013. - Costa Rica came out strong on Tuesday night defeating host Guatemala 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-14, 25-14) at the 10th Girls’ U-18 Central American Championship. Defending champions played very well together with high energy, quieting the local fans that saw their team fail after controlling the first set with a solid performance.  

Costa Rica fired up with impressive advantage in spikes 48-19 and superiority in blocking by 7-3; they were also better in digs 29-15 improving to a 2-0 win-loss record while Guatemala stands with 1-1. Spiker Allison Font of Costa Rica was the top scorer of the match with 23 points, including 17 kills and 6 aces, while Opposite Rebeca Camacho contributed with 13 points for the wining cause. Middle Blocker Maria Garcia topped Guatemala with 11 points, including 4 blocks and Opposite Christa Reinoso tallied 10 points. “Our communication, our team work and the desire to win were the vital factors to defeat Guatemala. We lost the first set due to our lack of confidence” said captain Mariana Solano. Maria Garcia, top scorer of Guatemala expressed “we began to fail and we weren’t able to control the pressure of the crowd; I know we’re capable of more.” Coach Martin Rodriguez of Costa Rica attributed today’s win to their long preparation “we studied our opponents from every way possible”. He explained their loss of the first set because they had many errors in serves, “we also had better physical condition than Guatemala which allowed us to control the match” he added. For Guatemala, Edgar Callejas spoke about the positive “my team fought all the way, I am very proud of their sacrifice and the support of the fans tonight. This has been a challenge for all as we took manage of this team just two months ago.”

 Costa Rica derrotó a Guatemala con fuerza

CIUDAD DE GUATEMALA, Guatemala, 3 de septiembre de 2013.- Costa Rica derrotó con fuerza al anfitrión Guatemala 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-14, 25-14) la noche del martes en el X Campeonato Centroamericano Sub-18 Femenino. El campeón defensor jugó consistente, con mucha energía, silenciando al público que vio a su equipo decaer luego de ganar el primer set con un sólido desempeño.

Costa Rica se encendió con impresionante ventaja en el ataque por 48-19 y superioridad en el bloqueo con 7-3; también fueron mejores en la defensa por 29-15, mejorando su record de juegos ganados a 2-0 en tanto que Guatemala queda con 1-1.  La atacante Allison Font de Costa Rica fue la máxima anotadora del encuentro con 23 puntos, incluyendo 17 ataques y 6 aces, mientras que la Opuesta Rebeca Camacho contribuyó con 13 puntos a la causa. La Central María García lideró Guatemala con 11 puntos, incluyendo 4 bloqueos y la Opuesta Christa Reinoso anotó 10 puntos. “Nuestra comunicación, el trabajo en equipo y el deseo de ganar fueron factores vitales para derrotar a Guatemala. Perdimos el primer set por falta de concentración” dijo la capitana Mariana Solano. María García, la mejor anotadora de Guatemala expresó “empezamos a fallar y no pudimos controlar la presión del público; sé que somos capaces de más.” El entrenador Martín Rodríguez de Costa Rica atribuyó la victoria de hoy a la larga preparación “estudiamos a nuestro rival de todas las formas posibles”. Explicó que cayeron en el primer set por errores en el saque, “además tuvimos mejor condición física que Guatemala lo que nos permitió controlar el juego” agregó. Por Guatemala, Edgar Callejas habló de lo positive “mi equipo luchó hasta el final, estoy muy orgulloso de su sacrificio y del apoyo del público esta noche. Este ha sido un reto para todos porque tomamos mando de este equipo apenas hace dos meses.”
