BOLGER CHEERLEADING

The 2014-2015 Bolger

Middle School Cheerleading

Squad completed a great

season full of fun and excite-

ment! The girls worked to-

gether with the leadership of

their three captains Lindsay Alt,

Alicia Davis, and Eliana Garcia to

root-on the Boys and Girls Basketball Teams at Bol-

ger. They learned new cheers and perfected old ones

as they always came to each game with smiles and

support for their fellow Titans! Anyone interested

in cheerleading at the Bolger Middle School should

contact Mrs. Rossi and be on the lookout for our in-

formation session next fall before the winter season.

VARSITY CHEERLEADING

The 2015 Basketball Cheerleading season flew by!

Overall, we had a very constructive season. We started

and ended the season with all 23 student-athletes; 10 of

whom never cheered for basketball before. With such a

large team this year we were able to complete and per-

form our half time routine within just a few games into

the season. Also as a team, we were able to incorporate

different stunts into each quarter. The girls did an out-

standing job this season! They adapted to all obstacles

and really worked hard to make the entire season a suc-

cess! With only 4 seniors leaving our squad, we look

forward seeing many girls return for next year! Great

job ladies and good luck to our departing seniors! If

you are interested in winter cheerleading, please see

Miss Corrao.

GIRLS BOWLING

The Keansburg Girls Bowling team finished the

season with a 21 – 24 record. The team had the third

highest game of the division and the third highest

series of the division. They were also the only team

to beat and otherwise undefeated St. John Vianney!

Though the girls did not have a winning season

according to standings there was considerable

growth. 9 of the 10 girls increased their averages by

at least 10 pins. Newcomers to the team were fresh-

man Savannah Alicea, sophomore Krysta Cieslak,

junior Bobbie Burdick, and senior Breanna Rizzi.

These girls tried for improvement each week and

showed considerable growth by the end of the sea-

son. Returning junior bowlers Fatih Madden and

Julia Reis were role models for younger bowlers to

follow, demonstrating the effort and time needed to

improve. Seniors Sara Zaky and Iman Traymon

showed great improvement from last years perfor-

mance. Junior, Elizabeth Connor and sophomore

Kayvonna Daniel were the backbone of the team.

Elizabeth (Liz) was the team’s lead off bowler, while

Kayvonna was our anchor. Both girls were con-

sistent throughout the season and steadily increased

their averages! Thank you and great job Titan Bowl-

ing!

BOYS BOWLING

The Titan Boys Bowling Program again won the

A-North Division with a PERFECT 45 win 0 loss

record. They finished 2nd in the Monmouth County

Championship and 2nd in the Central Jersey Group

1 Championship.

Junior Mike Breheny led the league with a 208

average followed immediately by Matt Gibney with

a 207 average and Nick Barshewski averaging 203.

The team also had high game and series. Senior

Zach Foster and Junior Dennis McKeon bowled

strong all season and Sophomore Dylan Rylan im-

proved greatly and is expected to continue to con-

tribute to the success that the program has had over

the past several years.

VARSITY GIRLS BASKETBALL

The Titans Girls Basketball team had a solid sea-

son that will serve as a building block for next year.

Finishing with a record of 7-13,. playing most of the

season without any senior student-athletes, the girls

look to make significant improvements in their divi-

sion next year. Hard work this off season and involve-

ment in summer league will help push the Titans to

their potential and lead to future success next season.

The program would also like to thank graduating sen-

ior Angela Kabongo for her positive attitude and dedi-

cation to the program despite suffering a season end-

ing injury early on. Go Titans!

BOLGER GIRLS BASKETBALL

The Bolger girls team worked extremely hard this

year. The team was lead by a group of ten 8th grad-

ers. As the season progressed, the improvement in

the girls skills and teamwork started to show in game

play. The team played really hard down the stretch

and the Titans made it into the playoffs. The team is

only returning one 7th grader and four 6th graders

next season. Therefore, there will be plenty of op-

portunity for any newcomers who may be looking to

join the team. If any students are interested in play-

ing next year please reach out to Coach Gallagher

who is in the High School or Coach Sigrist who is

the boys coach and works in Bolger Middle School.

Thank You to all the girls for an exciting and fun

season.

BOLGER BOYS BASKETBALL

The Bolger boys basketball team finished its sea-

son after a defeat in the first round of the Bayshore

Basketball league playoffs to Keyport. With very

few returning players from the previous year, the

boys showed a great competitive spirit and a will-

ingness to get better each and every day. Greg Tutt,

Liam Meyer, Tom McKeon, Ronald Rotondella and

James White showed great leadership on the court

and in practice everyday setting an example for

players to follow in years to come. The boys will

look to build on their success the past 2 years and

continue to compete for a championship next

year. If anyone is interested in getting involved or

playing boys basketball at Bolger, go see coach Si-

grist.

VARSITY BOYS BASKETBALL

Head Coach McCarthy and Assistant Coach Papcun

believe basketball fosters qualities such as commit-

ment and discipline, respect and teamwork, and the

ability to deal with loss and adversity in an individual

and as a team. Ending the season they believe that their

players will take these lessons into each of their per-

sonal lives and foster a positive and nurturing life

style.

“I love every minute playing basketball for the Ti-

tans,” says Arkeyel Brown, a junior known by his bas-

ketball coaches as the guy who personifies

“coachable.” Achievements for the 2014-2015 season:

Arkeyel Brown throughout the year has been marked

as one of Asbury Park Press’s Top 10 rebounders in

the State of NJ. Arkeyel finished the season with a to-

tal of 201 rebounds.

Shaquan Hutchings was selected to the Middlesex

2014-2015 Holiday Tournament All-Star Team. One

thing this season has taught him is that, “There’s going

to be obstacles in everyday life and you can’t get down

on yourself. You have to keep pushing. No matter

what, you just have to keep going,” “You can’t give up

on yourself.” Every team is unique. For this one it was

the closeness of the players. Good Luck to the graduat-

ing seniors! If you are interested in playing basketball

for the Titans, see Coach McCarthy or Coach Papcun.

It’s been

nearly six years

since the passing

of Coach Ryan

McGrath, a

standout wres-

tler for Blair Academy, Univer-

sity of Virginia and Rutgers Uni-

versity. Ryan was not only larg-

er than life in his abilities as an

athlete, he was larger than life in

his loving spirit, kindness and

gentle nature.

Ryan’s story lives on through

a scholarship started by current

Head Wrestling Coach, Chris

DeTalvo. Annually, a fund

raising event is hosted at Char-

lie’s Ocean Grille in Long

Branch where family and

friends of Ryan, as well as col-

leagues, teammates and even

many that have never met him

gather to celebrate his life and

keep his memory alive. The

scholarship is awarded annual-

ly to a graduating Titan. Alt-

hough Ryan’s tragic and un-

timely passing will be a wound

that never really heals, howev-

er, there is good in knowing

that the his legacy will contin-

ue through the dedication and

caring of all that give back to

support the Ryan McGrath

Scholarship Fund.
