MESSAGE FROM THE PASTOR

Join Pastor Ann April 20 and every third Thurs-day of the month for fellowship and bible study. We will meet 9:30-10:30a at the UPH Chapel Coffee is pro-vided.

Alleluia, Christ is risen! Wait a minute…if it’s early April, then it is still Lent—the alleluia is still buried! For sure it is a challenge to write this when half of the month is still our season of re-pentance but the other half will be all about the joy of Easter. What an interesting tension! But isn’t that how it is as followers of Jesus? Ten-sion is the name of the game, for we live as 100% saint and 100% sinner. We are constantly

messing up, hurting others as well as ourselves which causes us to feel bad about what we have done (or left undone); this is known as “The Law”. But we also have the promise of Christ, who has washed all of our sin and “messed-up-ness” away, which frees us to love and serve one another in the joy of Christ; this is known as “The Gospel.” This tension of living as saint and sinner is one of the things Martin Luther realized. We are broken and sinful, yes, but even more important, we are beloved people of God! What awesome Good News this is! Tension also shows up in our desire for comfort and predictability, which also includes our church life; it is there whenever we hear the words: “that’s how things have always been done.” Those words shut others out, and squash any possibility for something new and fresh. But we are not called to be comfortable. If you’ve read the report from the Synod Review Team from the Comprehensive Ministry Review, you’ve seen their recommendations about the places where we are comfortable. Getting out of our comfort zone means work—but it can be joyful work! This past weekend, I went with 6 other parishioners to the synod’s an-nual event called Walking Together. It was a full day of workshops and it was spectacular! There was so much excitement about what we’d all discovered that, before we headed home, we stopped for dinner to talk about it all. It was clear the Holy Spirit had been at work, helping us learn and connect and reconnect with God, and giving us new and fresh ideas for how we can tell about and BE Jesus to others. I recom-mend everyone consider going to this event next year—it will transform your faith! We will never have the “perfect” words to convey the good news about Jesus to others, but that won’t keep the Spirit from working in us! In fact, the Spirit is quite comfortable when it comes to working in our discomfort! Alleluia, Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

BONE LAKE LUTHERAN CHURCH WORSHIP MINISTRY

JANET KARVONEN-MONTGOMERY RETURNS! On March 5th Janet told the story of “ A Different Kind of King”.

THANK YOU JANET FOR SHARING THE WORD AND YOUR TALENT WITH US!

To the Congregation of Bone Lake

Lutheran Brothers & Sisters in Christ, As I begin my term as Council President, I want to thank you for your confi-dence in myself and the rest of the church council members as we serve on council. We ask for your prayerful support, as we work to the best of our abilities on this journey. Bone Lake is truly blessed with many wonderful minis-tries. The saying,” It takes a village,” is so true at Bone Lake, as it takes many peo-ple to make sure all our ministries meet their great expectations and goals. Brothers & Sisters in Christ, as we come together each week to have our spiritual needs filled, lets also work together and support one another so all the wonder-ful things that happen at Bone Lake continue in great ways. As we all prepare for the wonderful news on Easter Morning, “ He is Risen”, my hope is that we all rise to any opportunity at Bone Lake to support & serve our Church Family. Blessings & Peace, Martha Solfest, Council Pres.
