Imagine driving to the airport, having chosen a car parking slot in advance and, on arrival, being told precisely where to drop your bag, which you can then track throughout your entire journey. You’re also informed where the short- est security queue is, where to go and when to start your journey to the boarding gate, then guided to the right carousel to collect your bag. A Reuters report suggests the jumbo jet could be close to ‘run-ning out of runway.’ The report says last year no orders were placed by commercial airlines for new Boeing 747s or Airbus A380s, which it says reflects a ‘fundamental shift in the industry toward smaller, twin-engine planes.’ The slump in sales of the jets has raised questions over how long man-ufacturers can sustain production, as well as internal debate in both com-panies over the future of the planes, Reuters reports. The outcome of those discussions will affect the value of existing fleets and thousands of production jobs at the plane makers and their many parts suppliers.

…Airbus EvolvingAirbus meanwhile has said it is still ‘committed to meeting passengers’ changing expectations and match-ing the evolving trends in air traffic, while generating significant revenue for its operators,’ a decade from when its A380 performed its first maiden

Thousands of people have visited four sand sculptures representing some of Queensland’s top tourism drawcards over the last week, as part of the state’s efforts to remind Kiwis QLD offers much more than just beautiful beaches.Tourism and Events Queensland and Air New Zealand (with partner Virgin Australia) decided to bring a piece of Queensland to New Zealand in the form of sand sculptures, which were built at Mission Bay in Auckland. Each one represented one of the state’s key holiday destinations with direct flight access from New Zealand.“With a mature destination such as Queensland, where we already get over 400,000 Kiwis a year, we are always looking for new ways to talk to our repeat visitors and encourage new visitors,” says TEQ’s Sally Holyer. “We wanted to highlight different or lesser known activities in each reason, with a theme of ‘it only begins with the beautiful Queensland beaches’.” The interest in the sculptures was

New Starwood BrandStarwood has announced a new brand which will feature ‘outstanding independent hotels and resorts’ from around the world. The Tribute Portfolio will focus on four-star upper upscale hotels, and Starwood plans to have 100 proper-ties in the portfolio by 2020, focus-ing initially on North America and Europe. Starwood will also target high-demand destinations where SPG members travel but Starwood has little or no footprint. The first hotel in the Tribute collec-tion is the Royal Palm South Beach Miami, while four other US proper-ties are set to join ‘soon’.“Nearly 50% of upper upscale hotels in the US are independent, and like-wise, 60% of four star hotels globally are not affiliated with a brand flag. This provides Starwood with a vast landscape to grow Tribute Portfolio,” says Starwood’s Dave Marr. SPG members will be able to earn and redeem Starpoints at Tribute hotels and enjoy member benefits. SPG is offering up to 10,000 bonus points for stays at Tribute Portfolio hotels through 15 Jul 2015. See spg.com/tributeportfolio
