Objectives:1. Understand the importance of book club.
2. Familiarize self with curriculum map.
3. Choose two books for the next 5 weeks. 4. Identify the importance of the book club
exams (Dec. and June).
What is book club?
1. The first period of the day.2. A HIGHLY structured reading period3. An opportunity to read, discuss, and learn. 4. A necessity for our students.

1. Positive classroom environment that encourages reading.
2. Structured classroom environment with rules, consequences, and procedures.
Book Club is NOT
1.A free period.2. A homework period. 3. A chance to check your email.

Literature Circles
Highly structured reading groups that conjure higher level thinking within each student
Roles: 1. Summarizer (Summarizes the chapter)2. Travel Chaser (keeps a time line)3. Word Wizard (logs key vocab)4. Illustrator (draws an illustration for each chapter)5. Discussion Director (Writes5-10 insightful questions for group
to answer in a discussion)
