Yep, that iconic childhood toy was the thing that Daniel Gehman, studio director of Humphreys & Partners Architects, credits with his passion for architecture. Today, Gehman is the designer responsible for some of the most talked about multifamily residences defining the Valley’s landscape; Envy and Inspire in Scottsdale, and the Edison Midtown and Circa on Central in Phoenix. In his 30-year career, Gehman has designed over $200 million worth of real estate in town, but working with Deco Communities on these four projects has given him the most creative freedom. “I’ve rarely worked with anyone so focused on the nuances of each property,” Gehman says. Perhaps the most fun he’s having is with Envy, a cheeky property that celebrates the fact that it is for the ostentatious, urban professional who likes bling. “If the Kardashians were to move to Scottsdale, this is where they would live,” he says with a laugh. With that in mind, it’s ironic that Gehman designed Envy with two distinct sides, a bride and a groom as he calls them, distinguished by a black exterior on one side and a white on the other. “I’m stimulated by the work of others, and Envy was inspired by Frank Gehry’s Fred and Ginger building in Prague,” he explains. “I thought if it’s good enough for Frank, it’s good enough for me!” Condos from $300,000.
