d-phrag is a bulgarian dJ and producer. With no formal musical education, music always has been an essential part of his life. as every teenager of his generation he enjoyed heavy metal and punk rock, as well as many other music styles. his affection for electronic music dates back to 2002. his musical taste has been heavily influenced by the global underground series, the essential mix on bbc, as well as John digweed’s Kiss 100 radioshow. the dJ’s that shaped his vision for the modern electronic music – Kleineberg, sasha, digweed, oakenfold, dave seaman…to name a few.

at some point he decided to try some dJ software to make a mix with only the tracks he likes and that was the moment he fell in love with the dJ mixing. after a year of rather un-derground mixing, he was invited to do a guest mix as “artist of the Week” on friskyradio.com – and that event logically led to his own dJ show on the same radio. the monthly show is called immersed and is streamed every 4- th Fri-day of the month. currently it has an average of 3500 listeners from all over the world and is one of the oldest and most respected shows on friskyradio.

it started as a play and turned out to be one of his most famous and appreciated artworks.technically it is not a font, as the current state of technology doesn't allow it and you can not write with it in your favorite program.

you will need a vector editing application like adobe illustra-tor to create short texts for headline, post-ers or whatever. or simply stack few characters to create random art!

a few weeks back, we wrote about mo-hawk’s new corporate identity and logo. the us papermaker’s colorful m-shaped logo inspired by paper rolls and printing presses used in the paper- and printmak-ing process has also caught the eye of bulgarian designer ivan Filipov. inpired by mohawk’s new logo, ivan Filipov designed a typeface called multicolore vector Font.

even though ivan Filipov’s typeface sadly can not be made into a working font, it can be easily used to create short texts and headlines. if you want to use the font for one of your own projects or posters, you can download it here (with easy instruc-

tions). the designer urges you to try and stack a few characters to create some random art. printed on premium white pa-pers such as mohawk’s via Felt of options, the colorful letters will just look fabulous - have fun with it!

the font is made in eps (adobe illustrator) format, and you can easily adjust the color swatches and change the colors of the color segments, at the end you can find a short video which shows you exactly how to do this. below you can also see how ivan Filipov was inspired by mohawk’s “m”!

variatives

these are the font family of multicolore vector font there are various kind of colors. there are many variaties of colors, usages

and shapes created by the font. many peo-ple use the fonts for many different usages, such as posters, headlines, books, and etc. the colors are also changeable, that’s why there are few versions of the colros that many other graphic designers use for this font. most colors used are yellow, orange, red, purple, light purple, blue, green, brown.the original color of this font is electric pink, electric blue, electric green, and elec-

tric orange. the 4 colors are mixed and created complementary colors in between the circle where they meet.electric colors suit the font best, since it’s the signature of ivan Filipov’s works. he usually used electric and strong colors, but sometimes other designers and medias changed the colors into pale ones. such as pale blue, purple, green, etc. it proves that the font also works in other colors other than electric ones.

this is still an autumn poster created with differet colors used in the vector font, but still goes along well. the elec-tric colors don’t really distract the view-ers from the autumn feel.

this is the original colors used, and the vector he created for the & symbol. it’s used with a winter background behind it. basically there are many editions of the seasons using his font.

the multicolor font color is changed into orange and autum colors, used for autumn poster to represents the autumn. the composition of the colors are yellow, red, orange, and brown.

the original color is used and only few parts are changed into something that also has the electric feel. ivan’s signa-ture is still there, even more it’s added by white lines to connect a point to the other.

Red october font

the making of the red october font was very strong and detailed. the inspi-rations were specific and very well cho-sen to come up with a concept of the font. ivan Filipov tried to deliver a mes-sage thru this font and hope the users know the message of the font.he was inspired strongly by russian

propaganda posters, which later most posters use this font since it really matches the concept of delivering the message.the font is well-known for other propa-ganda posters and used worldwide, not merely nationwide.

the color used is also strong, red. descriptive to its title, the font red october are meant to deliver a very strong message. that’s why many me-dias that want to deliver a very strong messages to the audiences use this font. the shapes are also made very solid and not rounded, unlike his well known multicolore vector font, which was made very playful, his red october font are made very conceptually seri-ous, it doesn’t match a playful colors. dark colors are more of matches to this font compared to electric, playful, or pale colors.

hen the font is made, ivan really focused on making a strong font that can deliver message to its readers. the purpose of this font is clearly used well by all the users. those who create these posters on the left side of the page are using the font really well.there are various posters that use the font for political message, while some posters use it for traditional informa-

tions that need to be informed to the readers about an event, or else. many designers use this font with not much color other than black, red, darker red, white, or any other dark colors. they know very well that the font and shapes of the font are not for a playful use while for a serious stuffs to be de-livered instead. there are many other usages below.

owerful, strong, dedicated, are the key-words when you want to find this font in medias. since only powerful posters use the font. not merely posters that inform regular stuffs. architectural posters also use this font for its strong shapes that can reflect the strong ar-chitectures the architects perform. the dark colors would also go along well when you make such an architec-

tural posters. While multicolore vector fonts are usually used in seasonal post-ers for its colorful elements, red octo-ber wouldn’t go along really well with other colors which make it not often used in just any kind of posters, head-lines, medias, newsletters, or more-over restaurant menu book.

over the period red october was published, many people use this font for commercial. red october is free for personal use only. if you plan to use it for commercial purposes, you need to make a paypal donation, what-ever you think is reasonable by clicking the button available in neogrey.com. it’s not a obligation but supposedly be the user’s conscience to pay in whatever amount they feel like paying.

red october font has an ap-pearance of efficiency and forward-ness. the typeface is derived from simple geometric forms (near-perfect triangles and squares) and is based on strokes of heavy weight, which are high in contrast. to easily attract viewers, the fonts are made so bold and heavy weighted.

in designing Futura, ivan Filipov avoided the decorative, eliminating nonessential elements. the lowercase has short ascenders, which does not rise above the cap line. the uppercase characters pres-ent proportions similar to those of classical russian capitals. the original red october design also includ-ed heavy capitals and old-style figures, which were dropped from the original metal issue of the type. the digital versions of these glyphs were first pro-duced by him in his other font under the neogrey’s company. many movies posters, design posters, logo design, retro invitations, books, even singles by art-ists, use the font. the number of artworks designers use with this font are beyond ivan’s first expectation when he launched the typeface. though there were many other strong message delivering sans-serif fac-es, the enormous success of red october fostered the creation of many new geometric sans-serif fac-es by competing foundries. more recently red octo-ber has been the basis of few newly created political fonts, inspiring many other typefaces designers to create more strong message delivering fonts.
