Children’s Book Research

The Gruffalo• The Gruffalo’s front cover draws

in the readers attention because it uses bright contrasting colours also it has a questionable creature which would perk the interest of any one who looked at it.

• The title is put into a blank space of sky so it is not covering any important detail and doesn't ruin the feel of the book.

• The title is big and easy to read which is important because the main people who will be reading this book will be young children who will most likely be new to reading.

The Gruffalo• Just like the front cover the text in

squeezed into any space that is not occupied by the characters or scenery

• The text stands out and contrasts against its background colour which will make it easier to read and concentrate on your line

• The colour scheme is very repetitive and bland but not to say it doesn't work because all the colours are very similar it makes things like all his scary body parts stand out even more, this makes the creature seem scarier to children because all of his features are amplified.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

• The front cover to The Very Hungry Caterpillar is quite bland

• The art style is abstract and looks like it was made out of different materials this different art style attracts the reader because it is some thing new and interesting

• The front cover features a range of different colours which will make the book seem more appealing and attractive.

• The text Is large and easy to read this is good because it will make it easier for young readers to read and understand

The Very Hungry Caterpillar• The pages feature a range of

different colours which will make the book seem more appealing and attractive.

• The art style is abstract and looks like it was made out of different materials this different art style attracts the reader because it is some thing new and interesting

• The text is straight and easy to read it is always located at the top of the page out of the way. This will help the children read also because it is repetitive they always know where is is and they wont get confused.

The Cat in The Hat• The art style is unique and looks

like it is just a doodle this is a weird art style and attracts the reader because it is some thing new and interesting.

• The text is very large and bold this makes it easier to read for younger audiences, also the texts colour (White on a blue background) Makes it easier to read because theres less contrast.

• The design of the main character, mainly the colour of his clothes being red is this way to attract people to the book because red is a colour that stands out and gets attention.

The Cat in The Hat• Inside the book the text turns to small

and black on white background, this wasn't as good as the white on blue but it still works.

• The text is positioned in the open spaces of the page and not always in the same place each page.

• The colour scheme stays the same from the cover, a lot of red which is good because it attracts the readers eye and makes things seem more lively and bright. Some of the background is blue and some of it just cuts off to white I think this is to represent walls.

• The art style looks abstract and like some one has just doodled the characters but it doesn't look bad or unprofessional it gives the artist his own recognisable art style.
