RJTHOMPSON EMILY FIELDS
Project Title:Tight with Heat and Memories
Media Used: Adobe Illustrator CS4
Research Criteria:Research limited to Emily ’s collection of poetr y and personal inter views with the author re-garding the subject matter and intent of her work .
Target Audience:Poets, writers, and artists ages 22-30.
Concept:Give Emily ’s poetr y artistic visual representation through typo-graphic solutions.
Solutions:Emily Kathryn Fields is an intellectually productive writer, but only focuses on her words exuding a particular emotion she may be feel-ing as a result of action or inaction that has occured in her life. A vi-sual representation of her work had never crossed her mind– though her words were always prime for such a treatment. The direct-mail designs were completed with her artistic perspective very closely regarded, as her day-to-day involvement with the project. Misrep-resentation, as is such the case with such personal works, requires great focus and attention to detail in order to be personally accurate.
Integrating her words with that of type-based images provided for a rather unique, unconventional promotional ef fort for her work , which ironically used printed solutions to drive people towards her online blog/website. The original choice of printing these designs on newsprint, though economically viable, did not provide for the clarity and distinction that her words rightfully deser ved.
